As Trump Seeks to Frack California, Gov. Brown Must Finally Resist

Statement of Wenonah Hauter, Executive Director, Food & Water Watch

WASHINGTON

In a notice issued today by the Bureau of Land Management, the Trump administration indicated its intention to pursue new fracking operations on a broad swath of public land in California. In response, Food & Water Watch Executive Director Wenonah Hauter issued the following statement:

"It comes as no surprise that the Trump administration is seeking to exploit California's public lands and public health, simply for the sake of increased corporate profits for fossil fuel polluters. Based on Governor Jerry Brown's long history of aiding and abetting the oil industry in California, it would come as no surprise if the governor stands aside and lets Trump frack California to the hilt. But we're hopeful that Brown will finally see the light, and seize this opportunity to be a true environmental leader in resisting Trump's disastrous fracking plan by any means necessary."

Food & Water Watch mobilizes regular people to build political power to move bold and uncompromised solutions to the most pressing food, water, and climate problems of our time. We work to protect people's health, communities, and democracy from the growing destructive power of the most powerful economic interests.
