As long as the greatest crime of the 21st century remains unprosecuted, we all have a duty to keep the truth alive
I realise now that I didn't have a hope. I had almost reached the stage when two of the biggest gorillas I have ever seen swept me up and carried me out of the tent. It was humiliating, but it could have been worse. The guard on the other side of the stage, half hidden in the curtains, had spent the lecture touching something under his left armpit. Perhaps he had bubos.
I had no intention of arresting John Bolton, the former under-secretary of state at the US state department, when I arrived at the Hay festival. But during a panel discussion about the Iraq war, I remarked that the greatest crime of the 21st century had become so normalised that one of its authors was due to visit the festival to promote his book. I proposed that someone should attempt a citizens' arrest, in the hope of instilling a fear of punishment among those who plan illegal wars. After the session I realised that I couldn't call on other people to do something I wasn't prepared to do myself.
I knew that I was more likely to be arrested and charged than Mr Bolton. I had no intention of harming him, or of acting in any way that could be interpreted as aggressive, but had I sought only to steer him gently towards the police I might have faced a range of exotic charges, from false imprisonment to aggravated assault. I was prepared to take this risk. It is not enough to demand that other people act, knowing that they will not. If the police, the courts and the state fail to prosecute what the Nuremberg tribunal described as "the supreme international crime", I believe we have a duty to seek to advance the process.
The Nuremberg principles, which arose from the prosecution of Nazi war criminals, define as an international crime the "planning, preparation, initiation or waging of a war of aggression or a war in violation of international treaties, agreements or assurances". Bolton appears to have "participated in a common plan" to prepare for the war (also defined by the principles as a crime) by inserting the false claim that Iraq was seeking to procure uranium from Niger into a state department factsheet. He also organised the sacking of José Bustani, the head of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, accusing him of bad management. Bustani had tried to broker a peaceful resolution of the dispute over Iraq's alleged weapons of mass destruction.
Some of the most pungent criticisms of my feeble attempt to bring this man to justice have come from other writers for the Guardian. Michael White took a position of extraordinary generosity towards the instigators of the war. There are "arguments on both sides", he contended on the Guardian politics blog. Bustani might have received compensation after his sacking by Bolton, "but Bolton says that does not mean much". In fact, Bustani was not only compensated at his tribunal, he was completely exonerated of Bolton's accusations and his employers were obliged to pay special damages.
White suggested that Iraq might indeed have been seeking uranium from Niger, on the grounds of a conversation he once had with an MI6 officer. Alongside the British government's 45-minute claim, this must be the best-documented of all the false justifications for the war with Iraq. In 2002, the United States government sent three senior officials to Niger to investigate the claim. All reported that it was without foundation. The International Atomic Energy Agency discovered that it was based on crude forgeries. This assessment was confirmed by the state department's official Greg Thielmann, who reported directly to John Bolton. No evidence beyond the forged documents has been provided by either the US or the UK governments to support their allegation.
White also gives credence to Bolton's claims that the war in 2003 was justified by two UN resolutions -- 678 and 687 -- which were approved in 1990 and 1991, and that it was permitted by article 51 of the UN charter. The attempt to revive resolutions 678 and 687 was the last, desperate throw of the dice by the Blair government when all else had failed. When it became clear that it could not obtain a new UN resolution authorising force against Iraq, the government dusted down the old ones, which had been drafted in response to Saddam Hussein's invasion of Kuwait.
This revival formed the basis of Lord Goldsmith's published advice on March 17 2003. It was described as "risible" and "scrap[ing] the bottom of the legal barrel" by Lord Alexander, a senior law lord. After the first Gulf war, Colin Powell, General Sir Peter de la Billiere and John Major all stated that the UN's resolutions permitted them only to expel the Iraqi army from Kuwait, and not to overthrow the Iraqi government. Lord Goldsmith himself, in the summer of 2002, advised Tony Blair that resolutions 678 and 687 could not be used to justify a new war with Iraq.
Article 51 of the UN charter is comprehensible to anyone but the lawyers employed by the Bush administration. States have a right to self-defence "if an armed attack occurs against" them, and then only until the UN security council can intervene. On what occasion did Iraq attack the United States? Is there any claim made by the Blair and Bush governments that Michael White is not prepared to believe?
Conor Foley, writing on Comment is free, suggested that my action "completely trivialises the serious case" against the Iraq war and claimed that I was seeking to "imprison ... people because of their political opinions", as if Bolton were simply a commentator on the war, and not an agent. Does he really believe that the former under-secretary did not "participate in a common plan" to initiate the war with Iraq? What other conceivable purpose might the state department's misleading factsheet have served? And what more serious action can someone who is neither a law lord nor a legislator take? Bolton himself maintains that my attempt to bring him to justice reflects a "move towards lawlessness and fascism". This is an interesting commentary on an attempt to uphold a law which arose from the prosecution of fascists.
But there is one charge I do accept: that my chances of success were very slight. Apart from the 300-pound gorillas, the main obstacle I faced was that although the crime of aggression, as defined by the Nuremberg principles, has been incorporated into the legislation of many countries, it has not been assimilated into the laws of England and Wales. This does not lessen the crime but it means that it cannot yet be tried here. This merely highlights another injustice: while the British state is prepared to punish petty misdemeanours with vindictive ferocity, it will not legislate against the greatest crime of all, lest it expose itself to prosecution.
But demonstration has two meanings. Non-violent direct action is both a protest and an exposition. It seeks to demonstrate truths which have been overlooked or forgotten. I sought to remind people that the greatest crime of the 21st century remains unprosecuted, and remains a great crime. If you have read this far, I have succeeded.

It is all about famous prosecutor Vincent Bugliosis latest book `The Prosecution of George W Bush for Murder
here are some links http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&newwindow=1&rlz=1T4GGIH_enZA242ZA242&...
Excellent article Mr. Monbiot.
I would like to add that anyone who is seriously interested in the unfathomable criminals in this administation being held responsible for their lies and manipulations and MURDERS, needs to do a few things now:
1) Read Vincent Bugliosi's The Prosecution of George W Bush for Murder - wherein he so clearly spells out the case and sites all the necessary evidence in detail, to bring this gang to justice, whatever their high- falutin title.
2) Sign every petition in support of prosecution you can find. http://www.petitiontoprosecutegwb.blogspot.com
http://www.Democrats.com
3) Stand up and let your voice ring out loud at every opportunity - write letters, make phone calls, go to rally's, etc to show your support, nay, your insistance that they NOT be allowed to get away with their criminal behavior.
Fight for Justice and Do Not Rest until we restore this once great country.
Thank you,
Linda Alvarez
Nice try Mr. Monbiot. Keep in mind that the children of privilege work for their parents who were at one time children of privilege themselves. These same families are the major stockholders in the companies that profit from war and economic slavery. They will never be punished for what they do until the dis-leveling factor, money, is not an integral part of our governance dialogue.
One person -- One Vote. Everybody must be able vote; and, have their votes fairly counted.
A murderous monkey with lots of money is still a murderous monkey no matter what the MSM calls him.
George Monbiot-Nice idea. We should all try to arrest a war criminal if we spot one. Maybe some bright guy will even make a reality TV show of it.
Too me; the biggest problem with not punishing any an all that deserve it. They will come back to haunt us again and again. With punishment comes banishment from service.
The key is to expose the corruption of the MSM in the MSM - simple. Once their cover is blown their power is gone. We need to picket NBC, NYT, CNN, Washington Post and all other new outlets with one single message.
We know where the WMD are, they are in Israel - just this message is enought to sink the rotten stack of cards.
If these crooks cannot be arrested and tried in this country, let's make sure the international community does not forget what they did. Let them all be afraid of prosecution if they ever stepped out of the US. In the US, let's make sure that anyone who hires them feel our anger.
It's about time someone took action instead of sitting back and waiting for others to do it. Humiliation is a perception of negative judgement from others. I can understand why you felt that way. When the whole world sits by and watches criminals kill and torture huge numbers of innocent people... well, do they approve of it? And do they disapprove of dissent? From their actions, you can't tell. Are they the ones who should be ashamed? Should they feel humiliation?
Yours was a courageous act. And I believe you did what many, many people hoped someone would do. Certainly I did. Unfortunately, this paralyzed mindset will not change overnight; and not on account of one positive act. But you have provided inspiration to many, which means you probably will have provided cause for action to a few. And that is the way things get started.
It takes action to overcome inertia. It does to cause motion in a simple physical object. It does in our private lives, and it does in the public arena. That first breaking of inertia is the hardest. It takes the most resolute will and courage. After that, it gets easier and easier.
So for your part in changing the tide to the good, I congratulate you.
Well done!!
But back on topic, at least the gorillas didn't taze Mr. Monbiot like they would have here in the US.
Bush will be relaxing on the veranda of his estate in Paraguay, laughing it up with his buddies while the rest of us burn
So what do you suggest Jewbacca? Or do you think Bushco are doing a great job?
as someone who occasionally feels embarrassed when speaking out at a local city council meeting, i really appreciate what you did -- silence is death
Gathering many people listen to you means nothing if what you are saying is a bunch of vague, mind-numbing platitudes, and avoids the tough issues. His policies differ not greatly from Hillaries or McSame. The enemy of greatness is trying to please everyone. It might mean something to them but people have a long history of being duped by leaders. Just look at Hitler.
On matters of vital importance like really ending the war not leaving tens of thousands of troops there to prop up a colonial-style puppet government, what is he saying? What is he saying about impeachment? What is he saying about the war criminals Dick Bush being impeached and held accountable? What is he saying about the bloated military budget? How about what he is going to do about the obscene profits being raked in by Big Oil?
Nuthin. Gathering a bunch of people to listen to bunch of bullshit means crap.
Anyone who has ever known the gendarmes were coming for him, that the cops would be at his door early, very early, the next morning and that he would have no idea when he would be released, or what might happen while incarcerated, knows how scary that feeling is, and it is vital that the entire Bush cabal have that fear instilled in their half-witted brains. It matters not a bit if it actually occurs, but I can assure this brave hunk of a man that he has instilled that fear in the loud mouthed ignorant Mr. Bolton. Mr.Bolton will never again sleep easily or walk without looking over his shoulder as he knows that one day, someone will come and deal with him the way that he should be dealt with for his crimes. Even if no one comes, George has done his job and he should know that he will never be forgotten for his bravery. I only wish I could deliver my thank you in person.
Nice stunt. Perhaps performance art gives it a nobler name. We're all heartened by the courage Monbiot shows in declaring the obvious. As an aggressive chronicler of official narratives, he may someday claim the position of Grand High Exalted Gatekeeper currently held by Noam Chomsky.
The status quo is safe in your hands.
As someone noted above, Pinochet did die in his bed. However it should be noted that he was arrested in Britain on the basis of a Spanish arrest warrant and was under house arrest for a long time. That he was let go was because of his very convenient ill health, however let us hope that his declining years were not worry free.
(I also seem to recall hearing on the radio a few days ago that a number of Pinochet's goons were arrested for torture, but have not been able to confirm that. But anyway...)
If we start the process a bit sooner maybe, just maybe, we can make sure these people pay for their crimes. I for one do not believe in the afterlife; it all happens here, or not.
Nice one George Monbiot. Let's get involved.
You, sir, are a leader.
Obama is not.
Yup! -kudos to George M, for kicking up a little dust on this issue, *and* trying to act with some integrity...
Like you guys, I feel it's crucial that we carry on raising the dust and not let it settle till hopefully every lying toad who created the wicked Iraq Debacle is seen to get their 'just deserts' (sic) flung back at them.
AND... (also) I am a strong believer in summink called 'Divine Justice' (aka: Karma etc), and have not the slightest doubt that every last drop of harm done to others, HAS to be repaid, -in full- by all who transgress the 'supplied guidelines'.
If that's all true, then the likes of 'Mr Arrogant Himself' (John Bolton) and his evil Bushist kine are gonna be kept exceedingly busy for ... what? about the next 12,000,000 lifetimes? -given all the vast, wicked, and *totally unnecessary* harm they have *knowingly* and most purposefully done to others?
'Tis on that basis that I can go along with some of the folk here who have abjured 'armed battle' with the state's grandees and thuggees:
1). Two wrongs don't ever add up to make a right,
and,
2). No one, but no one, actually (in fact) 'gets away scott free'.
Human laws and lawyers can be bent, flawed and fooled, ~ but not the Higher ones.
I take a certain comfort in that...

Ps: regarding the odd post above this one:
"Monbiot, Michael Isikoff, the sainted Naomi Klein, the venerable Noam Chomsky, and many other high profile voices on the left, should all be arrested, detained, and forced... " (etc etc etc)
~ I really couldn't *disagree* more!
Personally, I much prefer my planet to have *each* of those people fully at liberty, - they have done SO MUCH to aid and abet resistance to the lunatic system we labor under.
Just because they don't accord with everyone's opinions on certain very ...er... 'suspect' theories, doesn't mean they should be taken out of operation. Unless...
...unless we live in a 100% fascist totalitarian state, that is...
As bad as things are, they haven't *quite* got into that ugly mess, yet!?
Chin up!
Mouse - don't be thanking George Monbiot for his courageous gesture in the same breath you call for 911 truth. Monbiot is one of the primary voices shouting down the 911 Truth movement, in concert with others who claim left/populist identity. He demonstrates little true courage here or anywhere else. This is more an empty adolescent gesture designed to create an adrenalin rush and steal the limelight from that ass hole, Bolton. It has no substance, except to enhance the "radical" credentials of this poseur in the eyes of gullible people.
TheLorax is correct. Courage would include a devotion to truth in addition to the willingness to take effective action and not merely publicity stunts. Monbiot, Michael Isikoff, the sainted Naomi Klein, the venerable Noam Chomsky, and many other high profile voices on the left, should all be arrested, detained, and forced to examine the evidence of 911 because by themselves they have demonstrated a singular desire to deny the obvious in the name of political expediency. These people have made bargains with the devil, even the blessed Naomi, perhaps most especially Naomi because she more than anyone else has described the fundamental reason for 911 at the same time she denies it was a deliberate act of state terror.
Shame on you, Naomi. And shame on George Monbiot, shameless opportunist.
"War Criminals Must Fear Punishment"
Well, since the "criminals" are the ones in power, it's going to be very difficult to turn it around.
I always did enjoy watching the Charles Bronson, vigilante- justice films. If you're in touch with your darker side, check out "Shooter", staring Mark Wahlberg........it's a winner!
Greenerthanthou: Good points. I remember in the 70's when Yugoslavia tried extraditing Ustashi war criminal Artukovich, who was a wealthy businessman in the Long Beach, California area. Money talks, and the Croation equivalent of the Nazi SS killing machine stayed put.
The stage was set for an administration that thinks it can get away with anything back when Ford pardoned Nixon.
Thereafter, Reagan illegally funded the rightwing "Contras" in Nicaragua in order to crush a democratically elected leftist government. Again, the President was not held accountable.
The Bush Administration is banking on precedent.
Great article on Antiwar.Com titled "Iraq Vets: Enough is Enough. It's Time to Get Out." Warning: if you have high blood pressure or a fiery temper, let it rip.
I am trying to have George W. Bush arrested when he arrives in the Twin Cities for the Republican Convention. My appeal to the County Attorney, my Writ of Mandamus, their response and my answer are available on southsidepride.com
The hearing was May 22. The Judge has not decided. There's still hope!
To the man who claims Obama is not a leader......Come back and tell me that again when you create an organisation that has reached out as his has.....and are able to gather 60 or 70 thousand people on an afternoon to hear what you have to say. To me, that looks like leadership....that and a message we can embrace. Our country is a shadow of what it was 7 years ago....
We have no clue how deep the deception goes in this government.
The names and faces we do recognize are there in the sunshine because the people continue to believe.
We put a vehicle on Mars but cannot get a vehicle ere to run on anything but gas.
No one wants to admit the extent we are chumped daily by the men in the sunshine.
If so there would have been a revolution in the streets long ago. The fact that I can write this in the sunshine proves that they know they have a subdued populace.
One guy once in awhile that raises a ruckus only gives the criminals more voice to exclaim how freedoms are still in evidence. Heck all they did was manhandle him a little so he couldn't actually serve the papers but he didn't get thrown in Gitmo or anything now did he?
Keep digging folks. You have no idea how deep this hole is.
Nice try, GM - too bad we now live in a world of brainwashed pussies more interested in "compensation" or the preservation of their pay checks than things like justice, or fundamental human rights...
If supreme war criminals are not harshly punished for their murders, maimings, destruction and massive theft, others will feel no compunction about committing the same crimes in the near future - and are busy planning the next wave of supreme war crimes as we speak.
If the Wall Street thieves and real estate thieves and other corporate thieves are not harshly punished for their heinous robbery of America's wealth, (and not a single one has even been indicted to date,) these crimes will continue unabated, and do.
If the illegal spies and the torture-order givers and the election riggers, (all also known as hands-down domestic enemies of the US Constitution,) are not harshly punished for their crimes, (and, of course, no one has even been indicted as of this date,) said crimes will only continue, and do.
And, in spite of the Mt. Everest of truth available, 46% of Americans astoundingly "support" McCain - that's nearly half of our fellow citizens who still support supreme war crimes, policy written and controlled by corporate minions (aka, lobbyists,) torture, illegal invasions/occupations, neocons, the near-complete evisceration of the Constitution and Bill of Rights, and the virtual destruction of what used to be called "our economy." 1/2 the country, man...

- we DO arrest them all on Green Island - http://www.rudemacedon.ca/greenisland/ex/gw19.html
This was a fantastic act. To move like this in the cold light of day takes balls. I like the idea that people will feel nervous about travelling outside their US cocoon because of people like George Monbiot.
Thank you.
PS That was nothing to do with humiliation; you just didn't win that battle. But you didn't lose it either.
Mr John Bolton and all his heavy political past and arrogance isn't feeling bigger tonight. Keep up the pressure on the nasty little creeps.
Good Job George! I have not given up hope that these criminals will be brought to justice (Stranger things have happened!). Especially with more and more citizens standing up to power and drawing attention to these thugs.
Wow I can't believe so many people are sucking up to this fraud.
Mr. Monbiot has worked hard to demonize Iran (lying about their non-existant nuclear weapons program in article after aticle since 2004) and staged this rediculous 'citizens arrest' to further his own dwindling popularity. The reason he announced it beforehand is so that he wouldn't be arrested for "attempting to harm Mr. Bolton). I'm not fooled George. Do everyone a favor and shutup.
None are more hopelessly enslaved than those who falsely believe they are free —Johan Goethe
Although no court will ever try nor judge ever pass sentence on the psychopaths of the New American Century their fate is as well sealed as ours. At the rate our environment, economy and society are disintegrating it's quite possible that some of these people may find themselves at the wrong end of a rope slung over a tree branch in the not too distant future.
Nature, Gaia, is a force as immeasurable as it is indifferent. If we don't stop what we're doing, Earth will stop us. It's as simple as that.
Our only hope to bring these international criminals to justice is a widespread and public explosion of 911 truth demanding a complete and independent investigation and prosecution of those responsible tried by a truly independent judiciary. This, when exposed, will fuel enough public outrage to lead to war crimes prosecutions and hopefully a broader knowledge of the international conspiracy of finance, weaponry, and drug production run by the very same cabal for decades. Silence is complicity, and those with the knowledge of these crimes must have the bravery to admit it first to themselves and then to educate the maximum number of people possible. We must do it for our children, if not for ourselves, before our civilization and our planet spiral uncontrollably into darkness. I implore all reading this to please educate yourself and speak out constantly to those you encounter in your daily lives until we create a tsunami of awareness which, together, we can ride to the shores of justice, peace, health, hope and prosperity. Humanity's brilliant future beckons to us from these shores, just over the horizon of the ocean of fear, hopelessness, and terror which we have been set adrift in. We must paddle to them as if our lives depend on it, for they do. Thank you, Mr. Monbiot for your action, and your courage.
"The next batch of thugs to hijack our republic will have not only legal precedent, they will have a textbook and a college of elder statesmen."
Agreed, vox. That's why those who call for leaving it all behind in order to just focus on the business at hand don't know what the hell they're talking about. Without a precedent, future thuggery is guaranteed.
And MiMiCcS, maybe it is a charade and the criminals get to live in Paraguay. Have you been to Paraguay lately?
i applaud GMs actions, they have definately made the news around the world.
the possibility of any of the US administration being penalised for their horrendous actions is almost unthinkable.
however, there are now enough White House whistle blowers out there who are prepared to speak.
in many countries around the world there are people who have suffered extraordinary rendition etc. and are now released. if lawsuits were brought against members of the US administration by these people, the US administration - as individuals could be tried in absentia.
the republican party loves to "deify" departed members - Reagan being one of the better known ones.
although a lawsuit will carry no "punishment", it could prevent that person from travelling to certain countries - and more importantly it will prevent that person from the attaining the glory that most politicians hope for.
Reagan got away with iran-contra - and is revered. Henry Kissenger cannot appear on the news or in a documentary without it being mentioned that he is a convicted war criminal and unable to enter certain countries.
Since politicians spend so much energy on creating their "legacies", ensuring that their legacy is that they have been judged and convicted for their actions may be one way in which their policy decisions can be (at least mildly) curbed.
http://www.impeachbush.tv/impeach/cityhow.html
As part of the One World Government elite stooges, I listen to Moonbot, as I suspect that everything he says fits the elites agenda.
The clue here, holding those accountable for war crimes. In order to get global support for One World Government, one of the things the new government must do is establish credibility. Everyone in the world knows the US is guilty of War Crimes on a level with Israel, although perhaps short of Nazi Germany. We may just well be one of the most hated countries in the world today, right up there with Israel.
Bushs mission I suspect has been to trash America as a Superpower who would do good, respect human rights, and keep global peace; and instead showed us to be Imperialists who conquer other countries under false pretenses to steal their resources. A country who tortures, and bombs cities in areas it occupies. A country that kills it's own people to get them to go along with wars. It has been to show the world that Democracy and capitalism leads to Fascism, and can not be trusted. And that Nationalism is bad and must be replaced by a One World Government. Mission Accomplished.
Of course, if you can get someone to shoot it's foot off, you can prove guns are dangerous. Our government has done shot off our foot. Thats treason-to America. But they are loyal to the crypto-Global Government, maybe they call it Mother Earth Inc for the global warming bunnies.
What lies ahead? Maybe mock trials of our War Criminals. Don't worry, they will not suffer Saddams fate, perhaps getting to live on their ranches in Paraguay or wherever they choose, while people are told they are in a prison. They control MSM remember, and the internet may be shut down at anytime.
Then there is our debt and reparations that will be forced on American citizens, since after all, we are accountable. We voted for the scum, and did not protest. We are as guilty as them for 1.2 million dead Iraqis.
So the empowered UN will need to sieze our property and assets to settle the debt and pay the reparations (after taking a handling charge to cover costs).
Thats one of the scenarios that may play out. The Bilderbergers meet this week on 6-6 in VA to decide.
Thank you so much.
I think you are correct in your actions; justice will not be served by those who are charged with task. If we want justice, we are going to have to take personal responsibility and act no matter what we think the outcome may be.
I admire your courage.
There is a consensus building that the United States is so deep in injustice that it is unable to right itself. We will need the help of the rest of the world to force the issue.
It's sad that the British govenment is so deep in crime itself it cannot be a force for good.
Pinochet at his worst does not approach the bloodiness of Bush and his accolytes (including the Blair government). This is far more serious.
Thank you George Monbiot for this wonderful symbolic act. It was very successful because it generated discussion of the fact that we are led by murderers, and that not all of us are OK with that. I'm sure that gives hope to people who have no ability to democratically change their fate, and inspiration to those of us who do, but (as a group) choose not to.
Thank you!

Good one!
Don't forget Perle, Wolfowitz, and Yuh for your list.
Yes it's tough going through these horrid times being a decent non violent person, yet that is our role. If we become them we lose. There is no role more difficult than human decency nor one easier than violence. The question of whether you stand firm or acquiesce will be answered in our lifetimes.
Monbiot is a Saint.
The ultinmate irony of the Nuremberg Trials is that Operation Paperclip brought Nazis to the US instead of being arrested and tried, as greenerthanthou and luckylefty note.
God bless you , Mr. Monboit.
It is of course unlikely that Bush, Cheney, Bolton, Powell, Rice, Rumsfeld, or any of the rest of the criminal cabal responsible for the Iraq genocide will ever be brought to justice. That just proves that our governments are fundamentally unconcerned with true justice.
The irony of a "democratic" government protecting a war criminal from being "arrested" is really kind of hard to wrap one's mind around, isn't it? If it had been Pol Pot instead of John Bolton, would it have made any difference?
I was watching Democracy Now, and they were talking about the vote in Bolivia of the rich part of the country that wants to secede.
The correspondent offhandedly mentioned that there were many Crotian immigrants who owned the land there. What??? Would these be Croatian Utashe, who collaborated with the Nazis, although their atrocities appalled the SS?
After WW, the ratline shipped many war criminals out of Europe. I don't know that the Croatians in Bolivia are some of them , but it seems fishy to me.
The Nuremberg trials were stopped after the first one. They didn't get to the industrialists. Too many ties with American industrialist and financeers (including both of W's grandfathers). Plus, they were still in power after the war, so it wouldn't do to try them, would it?
Pol Pot died in bed, as did Augusto Pinochet. As will Henry Kissinger and Dick Cheney. The next batch of thugs to hijack our republic will have not only legal precedent, they will have a textbook and a college of elder statesmen.
The Nuremberg principles...were nothing but Victor's Justice in a legal tu-tu. The American Constitution and Bill of Rights operate in the same way. They are the captive whore that is dressed up and paraded on special holidays, painted and showing cleavage. The only ones who believed any of it were the ones who had no guns, and we have never counted for anything.
The American military hung the ones they wanted to hang and the Judges they convicted for "their terrible crimes" (hardly mentioned in the American press - old news in '48) were out in five years. The Nazi's leaders who took themselves out knew that we would do to them exactly what we later did to Sadaam. Vercingetorix strangled in the Forum at the peak of Caesar's Triumph. Nothing more than cheap theater for the masses that both the Nazi's and the American Masters despised then and despise to this day. Us.
No no, the American war criminals, despite the protests, will NEVER pay any price for their monstrosities. They will will escape any penalties with THE FULL COLLUSION of every Oligarchy from Europe to where ever. They will die in their beds Rich, pampered, and protected because they served Master so well. What courts? They exist to protect the RIGHTS and PERQUISITES of Master - not the fucking plebs. We have no rights (small 'r') that any psychotic richfilth monster needs to consider. Ask John Roberts. My condolences to the people of Prince William Sound and the soon to be announced decision on their $2.5bn claim against Exxon. You ain't gonna get a fucking dime. MAster RULES. We pay.
Nuremberg was theater for the crowd. Like the United Nations and the UN Charter. On the bright side, careers and futures will be made in the coming "War Crimes Prosecution" industry. They will fail to achieve any concrete results of course, but they will get their 'grants' and soak us for money to support them as they fail, they know the game. That has been the "Liberal" survival strategy in the US since COINTELPRO. People love their illusions.
Now George, if you really want to make a stir, put a .22 to Bolton's head and pull the trigger in public. THAT will get some press.
And yes, GM, gorillas come with the package, part of your basic slave plantation global society. You're only lucky they weren't our noble Navy Seals dressed in Blackwater Berets. They'd have taken you out back and sodomized you in front of your mother they way they do to children in Abu Ghraib.
That's our world.
Yeah George I always liked you a lot, and this is just the kind of action makes me admire you so much- thanks
Thank you George. Maybe your courageous act will help the rest of us to face our responsibilities with less fear and more integrity.
George, the courage you have to do what you did indeed is laudable. Take comfort in knowing that there is a just place for these war criminals: hell. And when I get there, I will take comfort in spending my time kicking their a**es.
What is sad about this episode was that it occurred outside of the USA. Everything else of the intention was laudable.
No need to feel humiliated, George. A journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step. Others will follow.

i read about your court action seeking to have bush arrested - perhaps a citizen's arrest would work better though you'd have to get past the ss
rumsfeld is roaming around palo alto working at the hoover institute - gm's action may just inspire similar actions here in the belly of the beast - do you suppose rumsfeld is also protected by the ss? do you suppose he's carrying a 38? a 45? a 22? a 9mm? a 40 caliber?
