Sunrise Breaks 1 Million Voter Contacts for Cisneros

Today, Sunrise Movement announced it surpassed over one million calls, texts and doors knocked for Jessica Cisneros in TX-28. This follows a massive Get Out The Vote weekend for Jessica, including a phonebank launched by Jane Fonda.

“This is people power in action, and we are sending a message from young people to the Democratic establishment: we will not settle for anti-choice, fossil fuel funded candidates like Henry Cuellar. It’s time to step up,” said Ezra Oliff-Lieberman, Sunrise Electoral Organizer. “We are showing up with hundreds of young people to knock on thousands of doors, and make hundreds of thousands of calls and texts for a working class candidate, while Democratic leadership is showing up to endorse an anti-choice politician with robocalls from Nancy Pelosi, fake news mailers filled with lies, and big corporate donors. This is not the party we should be. Nancy Pelosi and Democratic leadership still have one day to course correct and endorse Jessica. Which side are they on?”

On the same week of the Roe v. Wade leak, Sunrise and NARAL Pro Choice America held some of their largest phonebanks for Jessica Cisneros – a rebuke of party leadership, who campaigned for anti-choice Cuellar. Sunrise and Working Families Party also launched a petition to demand House Leadership –  House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, and Majority Whip Jim Clyburn –  rescind their endorsement of Rep. Henry Cuellar.

Sunrise Movement is a movement to stop climate change and create millions of good jobs in the process.
