People’s Action Celebrates Senate Runoff Elections in Georgia

WASHINGTON -

People’s Action today released the following statement by Deputy Director Bree Carlson after Rev. Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff both won their special elections in Georgia and flipped the Senate:

“We congratulate Rev. Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff on their historic elections, and we look forward to working alongside them to build a government that cares about all of us. Millions of people who may not have voted were galvanized to flip the Senate by grassroots groups like Black Voters Matter, Southerners On New Ground, and many others who have organized for years, if not generations, to make this moment possible. People’s Action is proud to have supported this work.

“Our nation is on the precipice of something that could be transformational. We face a multitude of compounding crises. The pandemic is still raging, millions are teetering on an eviction cliff, unemployment is staggering, and so many are still denied justice from racist, state-sanctioned violence.

“It is incumbent upon President-Elect Biden and the rest of the party to not squander these next two years. If Democrats want to keep control of Congress, they must finally stand up for people and against the corporate elite by passing bold measures to protect people and our planet—and they can start by sending out $2,000 survival checks immediately.”
