"You Can Feel The Anger": 18,000+ Senate Constituent Calls In Only 24 Hours Against Trump, McConnell Court Packing Scheme

SUA To Activate Community Of 2 Million To Ramp Up Pressure and Hold Senators Accountable

WASHINGTON

Following the tragic death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Stand Up America community members made 18,000 calls to their senators in a single day on Monday to demand a delay in the confirmation process. In a surge of grassroots activity, constituents from every single state called their senators to demand that Republicans publicly oppose consideration of a Supreme Court nominee before Inauguration Day, and that Senate Democrats do everything in their power to stop Mitch McConnell's plan to pack the court.

Despite recent polling showing that a majority of Americans believe the next president should nominate Justice Ginsburg's replacement, Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell are moving forward with a partisan process to send yet another right-wing judge to the country's highest court. That's why Stand Up America is also ramping up its massive get out the vote efforts in key Senate battlegrounds to hold those GOP senators--like Sen. Martha McSally (R-AZ) and Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC)--accountable for their efforts to pack the Supreme Court with more Trump judges.

"Our democracy and our fundamental rights are on the line--and you can feel the anger from our community," said Stand Up America Founder and President Sean Eldridge. "After all of their empty rhetoric about letting the American people decide in 2016, Senate Republicans are now trying to ram yet another right-wing justice through the confirmation process. This lifetime appointment to the Court could be the deciding vote to overturn the Affordable Care Act and Roe v. Wade, or block legislation addressing climate change and gun safety. We cannot and will not let Trump and McConnell pack the Supreme Court without a fight."

In less than two months, the Supreme Court is scheduled to hear oral arguments in the case that will decide the fate of the Affordable Care Act on November 10. That outcome will determine whether millions more Americans lose their health coverage in the middle of a global pandemic--and that's just one example of what's at stake if Trump and GOP senators are allowed to pack the Court.

Stand Up America is a progressive advocacy organization with over two million community members across the country. Focused on grassroots advocacy to strengthen our democracy and oppose Trump's corrupt agenda, Stand Up America has driven over 600,000 phone calls to Congress and mobilized tens of thousands of protestors across the country.
