Stop the Williams Pipeline Coalition Celebrates Governor Cuomo's Decision to Begin Revoking National Grid's Operating License

Coalition calls on Governor to go all in on funding renewable solutions.

New York, NY

This morning Governor Andrew Cuomo sent a scathing letter threatening to revoke National Grid's downstate franchise for holding New Yorkers' energy needs hostage to push for the Williams NESE fracked gas pipeline.

Stop The Williams Pipeline Coalition issued the following statement:

"Governor Cuomo is listening to the people and showing necessary climate leadership by standing up to National Grid's disastrous moratorium scare tactics. National Grid's attempts to expand fracked gas and lobby for the Williams NESE Pipeline was never in the public's interest, and has always gone against climate science and the health and safety of our communities. New York banned fracking so it would be immoral for us to ship in gas through truck or another way. Now is the moment for New York State to fund renewable solutions and set the path to get off of gas as dozens of other cities across the nation are doing. This is a huge opportunity to go all-in on community-led solutions as the Climate Leadership And Community Protect Act, signed into law this year, requires us to do to reduce emissions."

Members of the Stop The Williams Pipeline Coalition will be in Albany on Thursday to attend the Public Service Commission's monthly meeting and hold a press conference (1:30pm in the LCA Pressroom - LOB Room 130) after demanding Governor Cuomo's PSC fund the renewable solutions we need to stand up for all New Yorkers.
