The Indivisible Project's Statement on DACA Supreme Court Case

WASHINGTON

The Indivisible Project's Policy Director Angel Padilla released the following statement on the start of oral arguments for the DACA program before the Supreme Court:

"As the Supreme Court begins hearing arguments in cases related to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, Indivisible Project reiterates its strong support for all immigrant families. These cases represent an existential threat to a program that protects nearly 700,000 young people and places them at risk of deportation from the only country they've called home.

"The challenge to this program comes as no surprise from an administration that has made cruelty the crux of its immigration agenda. Make no mistake--the efforts to eliminate DACA and similar programs are a part of the same unjust immigration policy that separated countless families at the border, threw kids into cages, shocked communities with workplace raids and shut down the government in an attempt to secure funding for a racist border wall.

"Last November, voters made clear they reject this Administration's needless, cruel and divisive immigration policies when they returned the House of Representatives to the most diverse Democratic caucus in US history. Despite the fact that the five extremely conservative justices on the Supreme Court have happily upheld Trump's worst impulses in the past, we are hopeful that the Supreme Court will uphold the lower court's ruling that DACA is legal, constitutional, and successful and reject the Trump administration's attempt to expand its policy of family separation."

Indivisible Project (501c4) drives coordinated campaigns, powering the grassroots Indivisible movement to defeat the rightwing takeover of American government and win an inclusive democracy and bold progressive policies.
