200+ Millionaires Endorse Dozens of Challengers to House Incumbents Who Voted for GOP Tax Bill

WASHINGTON

The Patriotic Millionaires - a group of over 200 millionaires and billionaires who advocate for higher taxes on the wealthy in order to create a fairer economy - are jumping into electoral politics for the first time ever and putting their financial and political muscle behind Congressional candidates who they view as Tax Champions.

By supporting challengers to incumbents who voted for last year's $1.5 trillion tax cut for wealthy individuals and corporations, the Patriotic Millionaires hope to hold those incumbents accountable for selling out America's future to their wealthy donors, and to promote leaders who support economic policy that helps normal Americans, not just the rich. With the House doubling down on a second round of tax cuts for the wealthy, their project takes on extra urgency.

Statement from Morris Pearl, Chair of the Patriotic Millionaires:

The Patriotic Millionaires are excited to announce our endorsement of 42 candidates in their campaigns to fight back against the Republican Party's systematic and grand-scale theft from the American people.

The Patriotic Millionaires intimately understand how our current Congress has so flagrantly rigged the system in favor of the rich and powerful. On the heels of yet another proposal by the GOP to cut taxes on the rich, we are taking a stand against the reckless governing of Trump and the Republican Party.

Across the country, in districts both urban and rural, these candidates offer an unapologetically strong vision for our future that addresses the needs of working families and the most economically vulnerable. We admire their political courage to take on millionaires, corporations, and the elected officials who represent moneyed interests.

The Patriotic Millionaires is a group of high-net worth Americans who share a profound concern about the destabilizing level of inequality in America. Our work centers on the two things that matter most in a capitalist democracy: power and money. Our goal is to ensure that the country's political economy is structured to meet the needs of regular Americans, rather than just millionaires. We focus on three "first" principles: a highly progressive tax system, a livable minimum wage, and equal political representation for all citizens.
