Bill McKibben & 350.org React to Start-Up of Keystone XL Southern Leg

350.org Co-Founder and President Bill McKibben issued the following statement this morning on the start-up of TransCanada's Gulf Coast tar sands pipeline (the southern leg of the proposed Keystone XL project):

"A shameful day-and a reminder that the Obama administration has boasted too often about how many pipelines they've built, how much land they've opened to drilling and mining. Expediting KXL south was not the mark of a president who really 'gets' climate change."

WASHINGTON

350.org Co-Founder and President Bill McKibben issued the following statement this morning on the start-up of TransCanada's Gulf Coast tar sands pipeline (the southern leg of the proposed Keystone XL project):

"A shameful day-and a reminder that the Obama administration has boasted too often about how many pipelines they've built, how much land they've opened to drilling and mining. Expediting KXL south was not the mark of a president who really 'gets' climate change."

McKibben and 350.org are continuing to work with their allies across the United States and Canada to block construction of the Keystone XL pipeline and stop further development of the Canadian tar sands, which leading climate scientists have called "the largest carbon bomb on the planet."

350 is building a future that's just, prosperous, equitable and safe from the effects of the climate crisis. We're an international movement of ordinary people working to end the age of fossil fuels and build a world of community-led renewable energy for all.
