Task Force Responds to Former President Bill Clinton's Support of Marriage Equality

WASHINGTON - The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force responds to former
President Bill Clinton's support of marriage equality for same-sex
couples, as first reported in The Nation.

Statement by Rea Carey, Executive Director
National Gay and Lesbian Task Force

"Former President Bill Clinton is stepping solidly into the
twenty-first century by supporting marriage equality for same-sex
couples. In doing so, he joins many other public figures who have
already taken this important stand for fairness and equality. We call
upon other elected officials, including President Obama, to do the same
to ensure same-sex couples are no longer treated as second-class
citizens in this country."

We know things are bad. We know it's worth the fight.

You are part of a strong and vibrant community of thinkers and doers who believe another world is possible. Alone we are weak. Together we can make a difference. At Common Dreams, we don't look away from the world—we are not afraid—our mission is to document those doing wrong and galvanize those doing good. But we can't do it alone. It doesn't work that way. We need you. We have now launched our annual Summer Campaign. Can you pitch in today?

The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force builds the political power of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community from the ground up. We do this by training activists, organizing broad-based campaigns to defeat anti-LGBT referenda and advance pro-LGBT legislation, building the organizational capacity of our movement and generating groundbreaking research through our Policy Institute.
