New Poll Shows Green New Deal's Momentum Among Nevada Democrats Ahead of Tonight's Debate

"A strong sign that the message of the Green New Deal is an integral part of electability and winning."

WASHINGTON

In response to new Data For Progress polling showing strong support for a Green New Deal among Nevada Democrats, Data for Progress, Sunrise Movement and Justice Democrats released the following joint statement:

"Ahead of the Nevada debates tonight, polling shows that an overwhelming 93% of Nevada likely Democratic caucus-goers support a Green New Deal. The popularity of the Green New Deal in Nevada surpasses even the strong enthusiasm in the earlier primary states of Iowa and New Hampshire.

"These results ahead Nevada demonstrate that the Green New Deal is popular among the diverse constituencies in the Democratic Party. It's a strong sign that running on the climate and jobs message of the Green New Deal is an integral part to electability and winning."

Key Findings:

  • A Green New Deal enjoys overwhelming support among likely Democratic caucus-goers in Nevada with an 87 percentage point margin of support. Of the 93 percent in favor of a Green New Deal, 72 percent of Nevada caucus-goers reported strongly supporting the Green New Deal -- the strongest support from any early primary state thus far.

  • Bernie Sanders, who has championed the Green New Deal and received a 92 percent on the Sunrise Movement scorecard, is also demonstrating a strong showing in Nevada with 35 percent of likely caucus-goers supporting him.

  • This continues previous trends where the Green New Deal received 92% favorability in Iowa and 89% in New Hampshire. Climate change ranked as a top issue for voters and caucus-goers in both states.
