Israeli army demolished a Palestinian house and farm in West Bank

A War Without Headlines: Israel’s Shock-and-Awe Campaign in the West Bank

The most violent period of Israeli aggression in the West Bank since the Second Intifada has been largely overlooked, in part because of the sheer scale and horror of Israel’s genocide in Gaza, but it's consequences could prove just as devastating.

    Ramzy Baroud
    Jan 16, 2026

Shock and awe. The phrase is apt in describing what Israel has done in the occupied West Bank almost immediately following the events of October 7, 2023, and the start of the Israeli genocide in Gaza.

In her book The Shock Doctrine, Naomi Klein defines “shock and awe” not merely as a military tactic, but as a political and economic strategy that exploits moments of collective trauma—whether caused by war, natural disaster, or economic collapse—to impose radical policies that would otherwise be resisted. According to Klein, societies in a state of shock are rendered disoriented and vulnerable, allowing those in power to push through sweeping transformations while opposition is fragmented or overwhelmed.

Israeli Police Release Settler Filmed Running ATV Over Praying Palestinian in West Bank

Israeli Police Release Settler Filmed Running ATV Over Praying Palestinian in West Bank

A group of Israeli military veterans called his punishment "just a slap on the wrist" and "state-backed impunity for state-backed terror."

Israeli police have released a soldier from custody after he was filmed running his vehicle over a Palestinian man who was praying outside the city of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank.

A silent video of the incident, which both Israeli and Palestinian outlets reported on Thursday, shows an Israeli settler with a rifle slung over his back driving his all-terrain vehicle (ATV) toward a 23-year-old Palestinian man as he knelt in prayer on the roadside.

Lawmakers Continue To Negotiate Funding Government As Shutdown Stretches Past A Month

‘No More Military Aid for Netanyahu,’ Says Sanders as Israel Ramps Up West Bank Takeover

"It’s not just Gaza," the senator said. "Netanyahu’s extremist government is supporting the violent annexation of Palestinian land in the West Bank."

    Dec 22, 2025

As Israeli settlers escalate attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank as part of a furious state-backed annexation push, US Sen. Bernie Sanders said it was yet another reason to suspend military aid to the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

"It’s not just Gaza," the independent Vermont senator wrote on social media Sunday. "Netanyahu’s extremist government is supporting the violent annexation of Palestinian land in the West Bank. This is illegal and immoral, and decades of American silence have enabled it."

    PALESTINIAN-ISRAEL-CONFLICT-WEST BANK-SETTLERS

'State-Backed Terrorism': Israeli Settler Attacks on West Bank Palestinians Hit Record High

"The systematic escalation forms part of a broader effort to consolidate Israeli control over the West Bank by depopulating it and expanding the territorial and operational influence of settlements," said one group.

    Brett Wilkins
    Nov 11, 2025

Palestine defenders this week decried the ongoing surge in attacks by Israeli settler-colonists on Palestinians in the illegally occupied West Bank, which the United Nations humanitarian office says are occurring at the highest rate it has ever seen.

Israeli settlers seeking to ethnically cleanse Palestinians from their lands in order to steal them have ramped up violent attacks on local residents including olive farmers, as well as their trees and equipment, during the crucial harvesting season. Journalists who document the assaults and international activists trying to protect locals from the rampaging assailants have also been attacked.
