Show AllThe gestapo lives. It is time to begin prosecuting the criminals with the badges.
They couldn't find the killer of JonBenet Ramsey, but they can beat up a defenseless woman in the street. Denver should look to other places for real cops.
reading a child's book for inspiration may be beneficial but, i think in order to make change we need to go to the numerous sources who are responsible for this behavior...it begins when babies are swaddled in color coded blankets and delivered to their parents for traditional upbringing...boys are strong, girls are weak...boys react physically, girls react emotionally...cartoons and stories create a 'good' vs 'evil' and the conquering begins...
we need to inundate the police chief, editor's page, all law enforcenment agencies, politicians, sensitivity trainers and defenders of our consititution to draw attention to the ugliness of this brute's actions and demand his firing...if not, it will be swept under the rug only to rise again and again...obama needs to publicly speak out against this crime to show he is truly different...
The book I am suggesting people to read isn't only inspirational it is educational. In it are principles that people could practice that will bring about true change.
Obama wasn't responsible for setting up the DNC convention. If you remember correctly 9/11 is what led to the type of security we are currently having at these events.
The government is supposed to be "for the people by the people". The change needs to begin within all of us first. Eventually it will snowball the same way it did in the past but in the opposite direction. Think about the kind of convention we would all like to see 4 years from now or 8 years from now. Change isn't going to happen overnight.
We need to start focusing on things that we "want" not things that we "don't want".
Once you start experiencing some changes in your own personal lives then we can extend that out to the collective. That is my idea of a "common dream". :)
I don't see just one victim here, I see two. They are both victims of the system. Rather than being aware of how what they are looking at is affecting them they keep searching out badness and try to push that away. The whole time they're trying to push away what they think is bad--they have joined in the chain-of-pain. This video and thread is a classic example.
Our system teaches us to respond to conditions instead of paying heed to our feelings. Until the people of this country begin to understand this concept their conditions will not change no matter who is president, no matter what political party they belong to.
"To recieve what you want, you must not push against what is unwanted."
In other words the more we focus on the injustice of the current system, injustice is what one will experience.
Instead of all the anger and blame that ultimately adds up to nothing may I suggest a children's book to read that provides principles that could truly make a positive change. It explains the process quite eloquently. I am sure you will all find yourselves in it. The name of the book is: "Sara Book 1 The Foreverness of Friends of a Feather".

Wow... I sure hope that big burly police officer feels like a tough-guy slamming that little woman to the ground. Makes him feel tough I bet.
Funny thing is that if he was her husband and he did that to her, he'd be hauled away for domestic violence. But he's a cop, so he's allowed to assault unarmed women. This is very shameful!
MUJERIEGO - Do you know for sure what theat officer does to his wife every Friday night? Don't sink to the level of a slug. Yes, speak your mind but please be reasonable.
When the USA refers to itself as "The World's (Self Appointed)Policeman"..this kind of action is what they are refering to, only on a global scale.
Imagine the Code Pink protester as any small country in the world that does not hand over its natural resourses to the USA... pronto
"The only means of strengthening one's intellect is to make up one's mind about nothing, to let the mind be a thoroughfare for all thoughts." - John Keats
Thats nothing...you shoud see what that cop does to his wife every Friday night....
here is a reason they only require grade 12 education to join the police....they WANT them dumb and with a massive inferiority complex...they make better facists that way
"The only means of strengthening one's intellect is to make up one's mind about nothing, to let the mind be a thoroughfare for all thoughts." - John Keats
Now I understand why war protesters during the Vietnam years referred to the
police as "pigs". As a group they deserved no respect; neither do the
brownshirts in Denver. "Law enforcement", my arse.
I don't know if any of you recall, a woman was raped by the cops when she was arrested at the Miami protest a few years ago... 75 Boston Cops have pissed drugs on urinalysis. 61 of those dirty screens showed cocaine use... I'm guessing the situation isn't much different nationally. The cop drug use in Boston was reported 1 time on page 3 of the newspaper and has received nil attention since. Bunch of crack addicted morons with guns and massive egos, taking secret orders and wielding a phrase to describe their dishonest tact in "prosecuting" their prey: testilying. I found that in the Boston Globe, testilying. Enough to make you sick, right? The politicians need to be prosecuted, the media needs to be prosecuted and the pigs need to be prosecuted, my appology to the biologically pigs for so defaming their being.

I ve been working in Police work for 23 years, and this doesnt surprise me, especially since the Sheriff's Dept and many other police agencies are not having to be held to account like they were years ago. I mention at work last night what had happened and they cheered them on saying she got what she deserved. It's like Germany in the 30's.
when the Law breaks the law - there is no law - then the Law becomes fair game as criminals
Most interesting to me is that this is the way cops have behaved in the black community going way back, but when it happens to white folks, they go into shock. Did they think this technologically advanced but 16th century baloney was going to play favorites forever? As the hup ho gains more and more power, the only color that really matters is green. And if your pockets aren't deep enough, you can well expect this sort of treatment from cops from now on. Obama is here to soften up many of you for the continued killing game that began in the Middle East, and to bring the war home, if neccesary.
I have to say I think it's funny that when it happens to white people, many of them start carrying on that this is a fascist state. And, to be sure, if you were dark enough or poor enough, this culture has held fascist features so long as you've been concerned for a long time. I don't know if the system is fascist, but it's a rotting mess from top to bottom. The proof of the thing is in the whole, said Hegel. As above, so below, responded the alchemists.
Come on.... If the Denver police were like the SS they would have dragged the women out a shot her in the back of th head with a small caliber pistol. Don't make silly comparisons folks - it makes us sound like fools.
And please don't advocate for a lawsuit - it makes us sound like filthy ambulance chasers looking for our next meal ticket.
Take it for what it is - over reaction from the police. Lets face it, most folks from Omaha to Bangor look at the girls from code pink and roll there eyes. Besides, how influential have they been? In my opinion they have done more harm to the anti-war movement than good. My 2 cents.
What does it take for you to recognize a pattern of police brutality? Every event that has the propensity to draw citizen protesters will have this kind of police over reaction. It happens over and over again. We have a bona fide police state in this country when the citizens cannot exercise their free speech rights.
Read the report by Glenn Greenwald as he tried to cover the ATT party given to reward the 'blue dog' dems that gave ATT a free 'get out of jail card' with the FISA bill. He had his press credentials and still was denied basic rights.

Alicia is out of jail after posting a $500+ bond. She will probably have to defend herself against the charges against her before she can go after the people who abused her. This is Amerika, after all.
If you would like to help Alicia, you could start by sending your observations, and your outrage to Richard.Rosenthal@denvergov.org
Also, view the youtube video often. Let's take that sucker viral!
I sent the following e-mail to Mr. Rosenthal: "I saw the Rocky Mountain News video where the Denver police thug knocked a 100-pound woman to the ground with his three-foot long baton. I bet he feels real powerful now. You guys need to reevaluate what brought you into law enforcement. Whatever happened to "protect and serve"? Shame on you!! By the way, your officers look like caricatures from the storm troopers in those "Star Wars" movies. How ridiculous you look."
OK. That last bit was over the top.
Here's Rosenthal's response: "Thank you so much for your missive. You did not reach an email for the Denver Police Department, but rather, the Office of the Independent Monitor. If you wish to demean and degrade the entire Denver Police Department for the conduct of one officer, you should contact them directly.
Sincerely yours,
Richard Rosenthal

This response seems characteristically defensive from one who is supposed to be "monitoring" the acts of the police department. Seig Heil!
Interesting. Here's my e-mail to (1)Rosenthal and (2) his response (perhaps he was advised to adjust his negativity level after he e-mailed you):
(1) I just viewed a video of a Denver policeman knocking down, in a knee-jerk
manner, a member of Code Pink at the DNC convention. Are you proud of a
police department that has such lack of control over its members? I sincerely hope not and would like to see this unnecessary act of violence addressed by you. You see, I am a member of Code Pink at age 67, and I know that my organization is non-violent in nature and does not need to be treated with aggression. Would your officer have pushed me and my osteoporotic bones to the ground if I had been participating in a simple demonstration there? I will surely think twice before visiting Denver in spite of the fact that I have close relatives that live there.
You need not reply if you are simply going to make excuses for unacceptable
behavior.
(2) Thank you for letting me know your concerns.
This incident is under investigation by the Denver Police Department's Internal Affairs Bureau and is being actively monitored by the Office of the Independent Monitor. My office is required to remain objective and fair during the course of any investigation and only after reviewing all available evidence and ensuring that all involved parties are interviewed will we make recommendations regarding how the incident should be handled.
Upon it's conclusion, the investigation will be reviewed by the Denver District Attorney's Office to determine if any criminal charges are warranted. The investigation will also be reviewed by Police Department Command Staff to determine if any discipline is appropriate. My office exists to ensure that decisions made by the Police Department are reasonable and appropriate and to publicize any issues or concerns we may have relating to how the investigation and its outcome was handled. Please be assured that we will act accordingly.
Sincerely Yours,
Richard Rosenthal

Lawsuit, lawsuit, lawsuit.
Eventually, it will not be cost effective to hire 'psychologically troubled' young men. Don't we see this in *every* city ? Like the NYC video of the ex-football cop 'tackling' a bicycle protester that was trying to get out of his way... and the Phoenix cop posted on YouTube beating up a TV reporter.
The violent cops all have the same 'dead eyes' and 'ex-high-school athlete that hates his life' look. And those protesters/reporters/pedestrians are just *so* annoying and probably terrorist sympathizers or drug dealers or pedophiles... whack.
This crap used to go on all the time: but *now* there are plenty of small, concealed digital cameras with video function. Same thing that got them in trouble in Abu Graib. The 'Powers that Be' can't just threaten ABC, CBS, NBC, Time and Newsweek to squash a story anymore, like the good old days.
Psychotic cops, psychotic soldiers, psychotic prison guards: they are few, we are many.

Knowledge may give weight, but accomplishments give lustre, and many more people see than weigh. - Herodotus
That cop should be locked up. But I bet he's proud of what he did--beating up a small, unarmed woman just because he could get away with it. What a manly man!
Modern equivalent of self-flagellation. What the hell is the point in protest? Why don't progressives organize positive rallies, or go rural (like Burning Man) and organize mass populist events? All of the anti-war messages are lost because of the staging/context of the protest. They aren't dealing with ordinary city police, or ordinary public rally security -- they picked one of the most paranoid/secure events to get their point across. Bad timing, plain and simple.
Other movements, religious, cultural, professional organizations, etc. organize large seminars, teach-ins, dialogs, etc. That is where progressives and populists should be aiming their efforts. Let's drop the self-flagellation bullshit already.
A century ago you might argue differently. Before the era of mass communications, it could well be that many politicians honestly didn't know how much bile their electorate had, and a protest was the only way of getting that across. But any politician who can't read the blogs, citizen journalists, etc. is a lost cause. It's obvious how much we don't like their policies and getting knocked down by a cop doesn't drive that point home any more clearly. What a stupid example of non-leadership. A genuine leader would organize an independent progressive-populist political event NOT during a Republicrat convention, obtain proper permits, even hire some off-duty cops for extra security.

"The next time a cop tells the dizzy bitch to move she will. The code-pink crowd are a bunch of wackos anyway."
You are a misogynistic asshole. How is this woman a "dizzy bitch?" I suppose in what is now fascist America, it is perfectly acceptable to beat up unarmed protestors. The cop is a fascistic bully and should be severly reprimanded.
But of course, he won't be.
The only WACKO is you.
The assault was the action of a bully
It will be allowed because: she's a woman, she's wearing pink, she's anti-war, therefore she's an easy target
Bullies assault unarmed physically smaller persons.
He's probably practiced in the art of assaulting women, including members of his own family.
From 1st hand experience, The DPD is filth.
They tried to hang a false charge on me and would not look at anything exonerating.
I left with my family in the night. To escape Nazis.
Denver is a dead, dirty, ugly town, and their scummy cops reflect this.
Justice=Just Us. For us and them as well.
That pig could easily be one of our "American Heroes" returned back from training in Iraq. And the lady from Code Pink appeared to be none other than Medea Benjamin.
The war supporters are pampered and protected, while the peaceful people who are against the war are beaten up and then arrested.
Don't blame the police, don't even blame the "Dem" Party (aka Complicit Party), blame also the American Sheeple who continue to support this system, including supporting Obama.
Shame on you all.
I've left a message on the Chief's phone just now.
720 913-6527 There's still room in his voicemail box! We MUST hold him & his clearly scared senseless Officer accountable!

CodePink is well known as Anti=War and the Denver Jackboots just had to be briefed on the protests & demonstrations !
Here in PSA==Police State America, we all know, and the poor Codepink lady was heard whispering to the Pigfaces==
Don't Taze Me Bro===but, what she forgot to tell them was:
Don't jackclub me, Bro and Don't grab and kidnap me, Bro !!! Those were the magic words and none of that would have happened to her
***surely, then the Brainless Gestapo Swat Boys would have just left her alone, and they could've all met at Duncan Donuts for a well-deserved snack !
Whenever I see police beating up protesters the first thing that comes to mind - These are probably the same people that would give support to a police strike. At least it used to be that way.

Open letter to the Citizen Oversight Board:
I wish to express my gratitude to the members of the OIB and recognize the value of your service.
The link below is a moving image that you have undoubtedly already seen:
http://www.rockymountainnews.com/videos/detail/police-use-force/
It is clear that peaceful demonstrators are challenging assertions that rights to freedom of speech are to be subjected to limitation based on fear of and by others.
Noted in the segment is that the woman was not positioned to impede the police vehicle. Her speech was civil, her concern evident, "A gentleman was being arrested...", she was witnessing to others who were clearly peaceable and there to themselves witness and record the exercise of freedom of speech. This after she had been knocked to the ground by a police officer.
The dilema of our sacred right to freedom of speech, to protest the imposition of limitation to that right in the fearful policy mandate of caged dissent, is shown in this segment to be a serious matter.
Overwhelming force even if predicated on a disagreement regarding city policy and the individual exercise of freedom of speech cannot and should not be permitted to devolve into police action as witnessed.
I respectfully submit that the police unit being used in the manner exhibited in this instance be considered in another light. Our civil employees on police forces need to be protecting, accompanying and serving the freedom of speech. For city policy to be predicated on distancing of dissent out of fear of violence is shown to precipitate precisely that violence. That violence was not committed by a peaceful demonstrator, but by an officer of the law.
I urge you, as citizens as am I, to consider the implications to the well being of civil society in the use of overwhelming force implicit in a foregone mandate that freedom of speech must be distanced and caged when it is the responsibility of citizens to peacefully dissent when there is, in a democracy, government placement of limitation on that freedom.
Great faith is placed in your collective capacity for discernment and recognition of the necessity to firmly hold the social contract above the pressures of fear that are repeatedly broadcast in our civil society today. I know of no instance in history where denial of a Constitutional right has resulted in the strengthening of that Constitutional right.
Here is something almost equally disturbing as the video itself: The comments from Denverites on the Rocky Mountain News Page. Amazing. Click on the link above, and brace yourself for dose of good ole' American Stupidity.
Please phone and fax the police chiefs' office, let them hear your outrage, tie up the phone and run the fax machine out of paper. It is being answered by a secretary, so let's keep her really busy:

They came first for the Communists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.
Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant.
Then they came for me,
and by that time no one was left to speak up.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
I called the number in the comments. I left my name and phone number. I said that I am watching a video of a police officer with a night stick in both hands knock a small woman to the ground. I said I want a call back as to why the police of this country are acting in this manner. I was angry, outraged, I left my name and phone number twice.
The woman appears to have been at right angle to the vehicle, not in front of it, thus not impeding it's path. I don't know what the police policy is but there was no verbal engagement by the officer to request space.
The woman retained civil speech, was engaged in simple description, witnessing to another what she had seen. "There was a gentleman being arrested..."
To honor her witness it is important to remain civil and exercise support of civil channels.
Thank you Skyler for the information to contact the Denver police.
Sue sue sue. Both the city and the individuals involved.

Freedom in the US means the freedom to be violently assaulted by police when you voice an opinion unpopular with the state.
i recently sent polite emails to several police departments around the country, asking if their candidates were required to undergo psychiatric evaluation before being hired. it's been three weeks now, and so far i have gotten no responses.
"Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable." John F. Kennedy
This is horrifying! I was upset enough to look into contacting the Denver Police Department and then thought it will probably do no good, just one person calling or emailing about the gorilla attacking a small woman. But here's something I found that might make a difference if enough people call or write. I'm sure Code Pink will do something on a larger scale, but if you're feeling as infuriated as I am, this might be a good way to vent. That policeman needs to be thrown off the force and made to go to therapy sessions (or jail!) before he's allowed in public again. By the way, this was taken from the Denver Police website:
WELCOME TO
THE OFFICE OF THE INDEPENDENT MONITOR
FOR THE CITY AND COUNTY OF DENVER
OIM Monitoring of Police Enforcement Activities at the DNC
The Office of the Independent Monitor (OIM) will be actively monitoring Denver Police (DPD) and Sheriff (DSD) law enforcement activities during the course of the upcoming Democratic National Convention (DNC).
The Independent Monitor will coordinate closely with Denver Police and Sheriff Command staff in order to ensure that the OIM is aware of any law enforcement actions taking place during the DNC which involve significant uses of force or significant police actions. OIM monitors will be accompanied by Internal Affairs supervisors or Police or Sheriff Command staff in order to observe law enforcement activities. OIM’s goal is to ensure public confidence in any subsequent investigations or administrative reviews of such activities.
The OIM will accept complaint and commendations regarding law enforcement activities during and after the DNC, on its website, located at www.denvergov.org/oim, and in its office, located on the 12th floor of the Wellington Webb Municipal Building, 201 N. Colfax Blvd., Denver 80202. OIM Complaint/Commendation forms are also available throughout the City, at all DPD District Stations, City Council offices, the Municipal and District Courts, the City & County Building and the City and County Jails. The OIM can also be reached by calling 720-913-3306 or via 311.
Complaints should be filed in a timely manner in order to ensure efficient handling and quality investigations. Commendations for good police work are always welcome.
Obama supporters,
Does he have to support this sort of conduct to get elected?
How about "holding his feet to the fire" right now?
If you can't get him to condemn the violent police state created for his own convention, then how about admitting you will never be able to pressure him into adopting responsible positions?
This is another test that he is failing.
At what point will your hope give way to reality?
Is your only answer to reply how scared you are of McCain?
That was hard to watch. A man in riot gear and the uniform of authority belting a woman in a dress with his riot stick and knocking her to the ground. Then coming back to grab her away with the help of at least one other thug. Wow. That was an ugly scene, and I don't see a way for them to successfully spin it.
SS tactics have become just as acceptable in this dumbed-down police state as torture.
There is a way to fight back, but if I mention it on here, I'll be "disappeared".
Scratch Open A Cynic And You Will Find An Angry Idealist.
DK Blake Typical of the country we have become. The Dems need to ask why peaceful protesters are being brutalized and using their free speech rights. We need our so called "leaders" to speak out as the corporate media will not show examples of treatment by policegestapo we have now. I say EVERYONE should now start wearing pink.
Denver is in a RED State isn't it?
I should expect the Grandma Millies to be tased and sodomized by night stick. In India and China they are shooting protesters.
Denver is a DEMOCRATIC city with a Democrat mayor. Colorado has a Democratic governor. Denver itself votes hugely Democratic in most elections. The rest of the state tends Republican. Lately, the two are almost in balance, and Colorado is a state that is definitely 'in play' for the fall election. Why the heck do you think the Dems chose it?
But make no mistake, Denver is ruled by a Democratic mayor and Democratic majority on the city council. Its a Democrat stronghold.
So, all this police violence is most certainly the Democrats attacking anyone who might dare to squeak a protest near one of their rich delegates or corporate sponsers.

I am deeply angered by this woman's treatment. We all shiould be! Darth Vaderian tactics smell and taste like SS Troops in the late '30's and early '40's. Who ordered this behavior? Are these United States civil cops? or Blackwater toughs? or just Fascist Pigs? Enough of this!
And yet, my expectation is that, unlike Abraham Ribicoff at the 1968 Chicago convention, the Official Attendees will be nothing but gracious about the host city's hospitality.

The title to the article is missleading as well, it should just say exactly what it is,
"Peaceful Activist Clubbed Then Snatched By Gestapo Police Forces"
i am quite sure that there is going to be overwhelming public outcry in Denver and all around the States over this unprovoked act of aggression on peaceful citizens. Not to mention the attention this just might recieve in foreign press

homeward-angel writes: i am quite sure that there is going to be overwhelming public outcry in Denver and all around the States over this unprovoked act of aggression on peaceful citizens.
I think not. In fact, I am willing to bet.
The first problem is that the mainstream media, if they mention it at all, will marginalize it.
And you have to remember, it is the Democratic Party Leadership that is allowing this type of police behavior with their 'free speech zones' and desire that these voices not be heard. Sounds like the republicans.
The Democratic Party Leadership had at least one republican speak at the convention, but won't have Codepink speak.
Vote Third party, vote Green Party. You can't support the corporate democratic candidate Obama if you want peace and justice.
I'd be surprised if there's an appreciable outcry. I believe there SHOULD BE an outcry, but we're talking about the US population here. Most of them won't even hear about this; & most of those who hear about it, aren't organized enough to do anything about it. (If they were, we'd all be out there in Denver with CodePink, getting the same treatment.)
And now the video is no longer available - like the Huffpo one from yesterday.
The audacity of hope will make the jailbirds sing.
Land of the free? Home of the brave? I think not! You brave, unidentified jackboots need to rethink your place in this country. Welcome to AmeriKKKa!!
thats f@cking incredible! I hope ACLU in Denver is going to be right on this one as blatent excessive force and full repercussions for the offending officer. AS CAN PLAINLY BE SEEN IN THE VIDEO!!!
That woman has a good case for claim against the government for monetary damages probably in the millions, that is what i call unlawful arrest and DENVER POLICE DEPARTMENT should have to pay right out of its budget if she could win a lawsuit for civil damages against the officer and the department. I really hope she does because this is blatent injustice and subjection of her FIRST AMENDMENT RIGHTS TO FREE SPEECH!
its just sad to see things like this because it reinforces people to fear those that abuse authority.
and by the way, just where is everyone? this post would have had 20 comments by now had CD not changed around the formats and made people reregister! MIA IS KEM PATRICK and a lot others i havent seen back...
It is outrageous and the arrest afterward was no surprise. Here's how it works: If a cop beats you up, it's critical that you be arrested for "assaulting an officer." That's just standard practice. Clearly, the video is going to make it difficult for the Denver police to make their charge, but that's how it generally works.
Where is everyone who didn't like the new "hide the comments" technical difficulties that took a full week to 'solve'? Probably fed up. Re-register twice, change your name. There were probably IT reasons for why they needed everyone to re-register? But no explanation on that. It was a bit like what happened in the 90s when Clinton kicked everyone off of welfare. Some of the "bums" never came back. There's more money recycling bottles. I was standing in line and I know what Hell looks like. You know when you're not appreciated and treated with contempt.
