Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law Rejects General Louis DeJoy's Suspension Claims

Louis DeJoy Must Be Held Accountable for Damage Caused

WASHINGTON

The Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under responds to Postmaster General Louis DeJoy's announcement that he will "suspend" special initiatives that have disrupted mail delivery across the country just weeks before the November election.

"Louis DeJoy's latest announcement are mere words on a piece of paper. Suspending his devastating actions which have upended the Postal Service does nothing to cure the damage that has already been done," said Kristen Clarke, president and executive director of the Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law. "DeJoy must outline a comprehensive plan for restoring the status quo at the Postal Service by replacing mail processing equipment and blue collection boxes that have already been moved and more. It is critical that DeJoy work with election officials to outline plans that restore public confidence and ensure that the Postal Service will meet historic needs of this election cycle. We will continue to fight to hold DeJoy accountable."

The Lawyers' Committee is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization, formed in 1963 at the request of President John F. Kennedy to enlist the private bar's leadership and resources in combating racial discrimination and the resulting inequality of opportunity - work that continues to be vital today.
