Jewish Protester Disrupts Netanyahu During Congressional Address
UPDATE: Rae Abileah arrested from George Washington University Hospital
During the Joint Session of Congress while Prime Minister Netanyahu was speaking, Rae Abileah stood up from the gallery and shouted “Stop Israeli War Crimes.”
See video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYXSLA7Cr2E
From the peace group CODEPINK, Rae is a 28 yr. old Jewish American of Israeli descent. She has traveled to Israel, the West Bank and Gaza and witnessed firsthand the reality of occupation and oppression. “Prime Minister Netanyahu says that the 1967 borders are indefensible. But what is really indefensible is the occupation of land, the starvation of Gaza, the jailing of dissenters and the lack of equal rights in the alleged Israeli democracy. As a Jew and an American taxpayer, I can’t be silent when these crimes are being committed in my name and with my tax money.”
Ms. Abileah grew up on Half Moon Bay and presently lives in San Francisco. She was arrested and charged with disrupting Congress. Upon release, she can be reached at 415-994-1723.
This protest is part of the week-long series of actions, organized by CODEPINK as part of a coalition of groups gathered in Washington D.C. for a campaign named Move Over AIPAC. During Netanyahu’s speech to AIPAC yesterday, 5 individuals interrupted Netanyahu and were removed from the building (see: http://bit.ly/aipac2011).

Show AllThank you to Rae and to all the people of Code Pink and Move Over AIPAC. Query: do you think we'll hear of this in the main stream news?
Oh hell no, Peggy. Maybe as a one-liner sneer, but nothing supportive or even neutral.
All of Congress stood up and gave this War Criminal 26 Standing Ovations!
What are they putting in the water there in D.C.?
Why would Israel never agree to be the 51st state?
Because then they would only have two Senators.
And they wouldn't have free healthcare
Even Dennis??

Cynthia McKinney Drops Bombshell: Candidates to sign pledges of support for “Israel”
In an interview which aired on Press TV on Saturday–one day before the AIPAC conference got under way in Washington–former Georgia Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney revealed what amounts to some pretty startling news regarding the extent of the Israeli lobby’s influence over Congress.
During her years in Congress, she stated, candidates for both the House and the Senate were requested to sign pledges of support for Israel, documents in which the candidate promised to vote to provide consistent levels of economic aid to the Zionist state. Refusal to sign the pledge meant no funding for the candidate’s campaign.
“You make a commitment that you will vote to support the military superiority of Israel—the economic assistance that Israel wants, that you would vote to provide that,” McKinney, who served in Congress from 1993-2003 and again 2005-2007, tells Press TV interviewer Marzieh Hashemi in the two-part video program below.
According to McKinney, the pledge also included a vow to support Jerusalem as the capitol of Israel.
“Every candidate for Congress at that time had a pledge, they were given a pledge to sign…” she said. “If you don’t sign the pledge, you don’t get money. For example, it was almost like water torture for me. My parents observed this. I would get a call and the person on the other end of the phone would say ‘I want to do a fundraiser for you.’ And then we would get into the planning. I would get really excited, because of course you have to have money in order to run a campaign. And then two weeks, three weeks into the planning, they would say, ‘Did you sign the pledge?’ And then I would say, ‘No, I didn’t sign the pledge.’ And then my fundraiser would go kaput.”

Absolutely amazing (in this context, 'amazing' is a synomym for 'appalling') what passes for the perceived reality in our society.
Rae Abileah stood up from the gallery and shouted “Stop Israeli War Crimes.”
Netanyahu paused in his presentation while she was silenced and removed...and while the notables and dignitaries present gave him a sustained standing ovation (for what?).
When this fit of mass adulation finally quieted down, Netanyahu departed from his text to say,
"...that in our free societies you can have protest. You can't have these protests in the farcical parliaments of Tehran and Tripoli. This is real democracy!"
Meanwhile, Abileah was arrested and charged with disrupting Congress.
Well, you sure can't get any more free and democratic than that!
hilter comes to the congress to enrapt the nazis
what else is new
Further on the incident:
She was roughed up, either by the people around her or by the police, and had to be hospitalized. Now, you can't find democracy like that in Tehran or Tipoli. We're talking real down-home American/Israeli democracy here.
Life imitates fiction: 1984. Tony
Prime Minister Netanyahu said the genocidal land grab would continue to the thunderous applause of our own genocidal monsters. I can never again in good conscience vote for a member of either party.
MINISTERIAL ABSURDITIES
The remarks of Netanyahu are too absurd to be considered seriously.
If Israel wants a demilitarized Palestine, it must certainly agree to a
demilitarized Israel. This decision must be made by the sovereign
(probably) Muslim State of Palestine just as Israel has arrogated to
itself the right to decide for Palestine.
I can think of no country which would permit this although the rehetoric
changes from nation to nation. In the US, we cite"The Constitution".
Other nations which did not author a written constitution in the 18th
century, have other ways of expressing the inviolability of their nation's
decisions.
Does the US want all decisions regarding the US military (overt and
covert) to be made in Ottawa----or in Mexico City?
Does Israel plan to recognize the independent and sovereign State of Palestine
as a "Muslim State"? I doubt it.
And why is Israel entitled to decide who can and who cannot represent the
government of Palestine? Directly or indirectly.
Such control of supposedly "sovereign and independent states" by their
present occupiers certainly represents a new and novel process of
diplomacy.
Until Israel recognizes that it MUST deal with Hamas and with other Muslim
-oriented organizations, no agreement(s) will succeed. Never.

I am inspired by the bravery of these young people for speaking truth to power.
I am more convinced that ever that I will never pay federal income tax while our tax dollars are used to support cruel occupations of Palestine, Afghanistan, Iraq.
Democracy is a nasty joke in the USA as well as Israel.
Sadly, a majority of Americans support Israel's Zionist apartheid against Palestine just like the good little Germans their ruling elite are.
It is supremely ironic that Americans do not see, for the most part, what an ugly, fascist, law-breaking warmonger their own country is. But then again, most Germans in the 30's didn't see (or chose not to see) the evil they were supporting either. The truth is a difficult pill to swallow, and Americans prefer to be deceived.
Let me correct: Sadly, the majority of Americans are either apathetic or being duped to support Zionist...
You can only be duped if you choose to be. Ifyou are too lazy or uninterested to actually turn off the MSM BULLSHIT and seek the truth - which is out there all over the place for those who choose to see and read it -then you deserve to be duped and have evil done in your name. The ignorant shall inherit the earth.
Ignorance is NOT bliss.
To be fair, most Americans dont see the war crimes their own country is committing on a daily basis, let alone Israel's
To be fair, most Americans don't see the crimes because they choose to not see, or are too lazy and apathetic to get off their couches, shut off American Idol, and find it. It's right there for the entire world to see. Being blinded by self-imposed ignorance and a raging case of exceptionalism isn't an excuse. Americans reap what they sow.
American like to be lied to.
I believe the population of Israel and the Population of Palestine are about the same. I think we should do as king Solomon and CUT THE LAND IN HALF. You'd think Israel would have learned something from their own supression. And who gave them nukes anyway does anyone know? They have nerve complaining about Iran getting nukes.
You would think, but they didn't. Now the only solution is the dissolution of Israel and reparations for the damage this invasion has caused.
This:
"Now the only solution is the dissolution of Israel and reparations for the damage this invasion has caused."
is something that I strenously disagree with you on, GoingGreen. The solution is the force Israel to change her policies in the Occupied Territories (i. e. West Bank, Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem), which means pulling her troops and Rightwing Israeli Jewish settlers out of those territories and allowing the Palestinians to create their own independent, sovereign nation-state ALONGSIDE Israel, and NOT in place of it, the way you and so many others want, or face sanctions of some sort of other. Imho, the two-state solution is the only safe, sane and sensible way to grant reparations and a sweet deal to the Palestinians, and to help Israel survive as a Jewish-majority Democratic, independent, sovereign nation-state as well.
There's a little problem of establishing borders, or have you not seen a map of the area? Are you suggesting that somehow the Palestinians should be satisfied with Bantustans within the borders of Israel? Gee they would have to kiss up to the Israelis to gain access to the outside world, just like they do now. Please, tell me how this 2 state solution can be realized based upon Israel's many absurd demands.
France in the early sixties.
Love your handle, but wouldn't want to handle it. Thank's for the info.
The Electronic Intifada quotes Medea Benjamin of Codepink as stating that this courageous young woman of conscience was attacked by two AIPAC members in the gallery, and she suffered head and neck injuries as a result. That is why she's in the hospital. But of course, no one will be arrested for assaulting her. Only the peaceful protesters get arrested, not the war criminals or their brownshirt thugs.
http://electronicintifada.net/blog/ali-abunimah/protestor-who-disrupted-netanyahu-congress-attacked-hospitalized-arrested
According to Ali Abunimah at Electronic Intifada, her injuries were inflicted by people wearing AIPAC badges sitting around her, and she was removed by the police and taken to George Washington University hospital, where she was subsequently arrested. (No one else was arrested or removed.) Why was she arrested later, and not immediately at the Capitol? Does it have to do with the fact that her attackers were not arrested? That they were AIPAC types? Does it raise a suspicion that the police (Capitol or DC) act at the behest of AIPAC?
Nah! That's as preposterous as suggesting that the US Congress does AIPAC's bidding.
Hurrah for someone who is telling the truth!!!!
The worst kind of coward is the bully who cries "victim".
Is there only one decent American Jew who is willing to stand up to the war crimes of the Israeli apartheid state? Is there only one American Jew with a conscience? Is there only one American Jew who is willing to speak truth to power? Where are the others?
From what I could hear of the video, she got out maybe four or five words before she was silenced, and Netanyahu announced how wonderful our "real democracy" was that she could voice her protest in this way, unlike in Tehran or Tripoli. That's a perfect illustration of how far "our democracy" will let us go with protesting. Shout a few words from a muffled distance and prepare to be beaten up and dragged out by thugs protecting the authoritarians. That's Real Democracy in action!
Tara I too find myself incapable of commenting on these things without letting loose a stream of blue-black profanity. I type many comments then delete them, because they are full of rage and no hope.
Not criticizing - you saved me from saying the same thing in the same way.
As a boomer I was repeatedly educated in the crime of the holocaust committed against the Jews of Europe, and for years was sympathetic to the Jewish plight. That sympathy has been forever destroyed and I, like the much of the rest of Middle East, wish nothing more than the destruction of this criminal, inhuman splinter in the foot of world stability. And that is a very sad commentary indeed.
If so-called justice for the crimes committed against the Jews means the inevitable existance of an elitist, exceptionalist cultural philosophy then I say destroy that state, scatter them once again to the four corners and never, ever let them again build a mechanism for their antiquated, misbegotten notion as "the chosen."
But these are just useless, pointless words. Nothing will change so long as Zionist wealth and power has a stranglehold on the US political class.
I am ashamed to harbour these feelings, but the facts speak for themselves.
Will somebody please give this woman the Nobel Peace Prize ? Or at least the kind of publicity the fellow who threw his shoe at Bush received ?
Oh, tee hee ... look at her ... she doesn't look European .... how silly ... yelling like that in Congress ... and at that nice man who lives just next door down there talking to all the eyes that are concentrating, yearning to hear, to understand ... that yesssss precioussss, the American Dream is Alive .......
He gave an impressive speech.
It is patently obvious that the Zionist Government of Israel does not want to settle for peace, just settle more and more Palestinian land until they steal it all.
You only have to read the Likud party election manifesto to find the proof of that, see:
http://www.knesset.gov.il/elections/knesset15/elikud_m.htm
Tell me, what is "the 1967 borders are indefensible" even supposed to mean? Moving a border makes it impossible to defend? Making narrow incursions into another people's land, as the Israeli settlements have done, lengthens your borders without adding much land area, so if anything it makes defending the borders more difficult. If we interpret "indefensible" in a political rather than physical sense, then what's indefensible is the Israeli theft of the land. What Netanyahu really means is "We stole that land and we're not giving it back."
Listening to and watching the smug self-satisfied body language of the well-suited nearly-American businesslike-ZioNazi reciting his lines at the AIPAC pep/hate rally, it dawned on me that Bibi has missed his calling. He should have been a comedian.
Israel would turn into a dried up prune if it returned to its legal borders without the stolen water, let alone land. It could always plant its nuclear missiles and see if anything grows, now that Israel admits the weapons can't make the 1967 borders secure.
Hey CommonDreams:

"She was arrested and charged with disrupting Congress."
some of the members actually woke up.
If netanyyahoo is still talking, he hasn't been interrupted.
Congratulations to very brave lady who in her protest spoke on behalf of many, whatever their faith or no faith, for justice to a people who for years have lived under occupation and been denied their their right to return home.
Shame of all those who stood to applaud Nuttyyahoo. They were more concerned with getting re-elected next year than concerned for the rights of the people of Palestine.
