Attorney: Manning Abuse Worsens; Two Visitors Detained at Base
The attorney for alleged army whistleblower Bradley Manning is accusing the military of intensifying their harsh treatment of Manning as he remains behind bars. The lawyer, David Coombs, says Manning was placed on a stricter suicide watch last week despite psychiatric reviews showing he is not a suicide risk and should even be taken off a less restrictive "prevention of injury watch." According to Coombs, the military revoked Manning's lone hour of exercise and stripped him of all his clothing except for his underwear. Manning was ultimately returned to "prevention of injury" status after Coombs complained. The military is also cracking down on Manning's visitors. On Sunday, Manning's friend David House and progressive blogger Jane Hamsher were detained and prevented from visiting him at the Quantico military base in Virginia. They had brought with them a 42,000-signature petition protesting Manning's prison conditions. House has publicly alleged that Manning's mental and physical health has declined under 23-hour-a-day solitary confinement. The pair were detained for two hours and released only after Manning's allotted visitation period had expired.

If you haven't read it, you really should... everyone should.

Team Obama is using Manning as an example of what happens to anybody who attempts to provide the transparency that candidate Obama promised but has only delivered in cases where he was sued by ACLU and other organizations.
In the abuse and mistreatment of Manning (prolonged isolation has long been recognized as mentally destabilizing and a form of torture) our vaunted military is acting like authoritarians as they punish an unconvicted prisoner and thuggishly harass his visitors.
The president does not have the authority to restrain the military. Hasn't done for some time. Oh ... on paper, sure. But in practise?
This is outrageous. Manning should be released immediately. What about the Right to a Speedy Trial. This case proves that the US has sunk into a state of Fascism. Do I need to remind anyone that this is happening under a Democratic Administration? It is time to push for Impeachment. We cannot wait another 2 years.
If Manning was your brother or son, what would you do? Manning is a brother to all of us.
In the meantime, BOYCOTT VIRGINIA.
Where is the Red Cross - maybe counting their money????
There can be no speedy trial because the prosecutors have not been able to "build the case" that they really want.
Can you say INDEFINITE DETENTION WITHOUT DUE PROCESS ?
Where is the Commander in Chief? And why are Big Ed, Rachel, Bill Maher, and Michael Moore afraid to take on this imposter of a President, the mole who gets done the things that the real right would not dream of doing?
No bad words from any of them about their Kingdom of Israel. Why?
Big Ed, Rachel Maddow, Bill Maher and Michael Moore--are all phony Democrats.
They will not tune against their beloved Democratic Dimwitted Party.
But if Bush were doing the same thing--well he was--and yes, they were up in arms, but meanwhile, the OilyBomber gets a pass.
Moore helped (or stared he was going to help) raise money for Manning's defense but I have not heard a peep since.
Also, Moore won't stand up to Obama--he's a Dem loyalist all the way.
Just dial back to the Nov. 2010 elections--Moore was getting the vote out for those fucking Democrats.
Bail is a promise to appear in court.
Considering Manning is in jail, partially for breaking his word, I think it's understandable why he would not be released prior to trial.
Additionally, the "due process" thing - who do you know that goes to trial (especially charges of this magnitude) very quickly?
As for "boycotting Virginia" - you do realize that Virginia has absolutely NOTHING to do with this - he's being held by the US Military & the Virginia has no jurisdiction.
To Idiocy: Virginia has everything to do with it, for the district over which that federal court presides is disproportionately white and conservative, to say nothing about the number of Pentagon workers and contractors who live there. And the appellate courts that hear the cases coming out of the federal distrct courts in Virginia are the most conservative in the United States.
Because the racial and ideological make up of that district's venire (jury pools)is predominantly white conservative, prosecutors love to bring their cases here. That's why Linda Tripp got Monica Lewinsky to come to a Virginia hotel in Alexandria, and why Ken Starr always sought his specious Whitewater indictments in the same district that Eric Holder now wants to try Bradley Manning. Starr's most preposterous cases finally failed even in Ol' Virginny, though he succeeded in financially ruining a lot of innocent folks he could not convict. That he could tie up a government like he did indicates the fascist tendencies in America. They couldn't beat Clinton at the polls, so they compromised him and whatever progressive aspirations upon which he might have, were he ever so inclined, acted.
Clinton was no "progressive."
Good grief.
Manning is up for a Court Martial, to be tried by the military.
Virginia, California, Pennsylvania, etc ALL have something to do with this. There are no free passes when it comes to injustice to any one of us.
Virginia has no jurisdiction, though!!! LOL
Exactly. We are no longer in a Democracy. The US IS A POLICE STATE. This kind of detention and torture without a trial is very Hitleresque. Bradley Manning is EVERY AMERICAN and this is what the Fascists (Nazis is a more correct term)think of democracy -- they want to use it for toilet paper. And those who support them are no less than the supporters of Hitler.
Nazis=Not-sees
Rove and Rahm have refined Hitler's playbook to the extent that Hitler would be green with envy if he could see how American fascism has succeeded.
I believe USAans are in denial of the Fascism they live under because they reference Hitler's ovens and concentration camps.
Though the hugh prison population is in some ways similiar to concentration camps there is a difference.
The USAans would seem to be ready to maintain denial until the worst Hitlerian aspects appear but since those in denial now, are very much cowards, even then they will remain the same.
I do not believe either Hitler, Stalin or Mao openly claimed the right of Universal Executive Extrajudicial Executions.
The only heads of states I know of making the above claim have been monarchs.
But no this is not Fascism, even if it goes beyond all other modern fascists.
Godwin's Law?
In many ways it is less productive to mention Nazism, even though the common USA reference for Fascism is the extreme form, Nazism.
No fascist denier ever confronts the Universal Executive Extrajudicial Executions, the deniers just ignore it.
Nor do they admit the corp control of Media, Elections, Congress or Imperial policy.
And of course they will not now or when things are worse because they do not wish to jepardize themselves for the victims of Fascism.
does anyone have a list of names of the criminals, from the warden to the military leadership, who have been carrying out these crimes?
a lot of their relatives, neighbors, and friends would love to know what find individuals they are.
p.s. in the full "statement of the event" at FDL, there is at least one name of one of the MPs who detained House and Hamsher. a good start.
The military takes orders from the Commander-in-Chief.
The military and the psychiatrists, who are in bed with the military, want us to believe that Manning is not a suicide risk. Perhaps if Manning ends up mysteriously dead one morning, we can then expect to hear from the military that he is not dead but rather that he choked on his food and that he has gone into an irreversible coma which the mainstream media will then accept as being the gospel truth.
" I have said repeatedly that America doesn't torture. And I'm gonna make sure that we don't torture."
---Barack Obama
On CBS 60 Minutes, November 16, 2008.
Bullshit!
Shame on you, President Obama, and on you, Attorney General Holder.
Yeah, I'm so sick of Obama and his lying mouth! I never believed a word coming out of his face. He continues to lie but gives "great inspiring speeches" from time to time and still fools people into sticking with him. Haven't they had enough proof this man does NOT mean what he says?
As long as Obama can maintain his symbiotic relationship with Sarah Palin (his boogeywoman extraordinaire) he will probably scare enough Americans into re-electing him in 2012.
As I discovered from another poster, the Marines, have hacked other people's email than my email, after signing Hamsher's Manning support letter.
My Yahoo account now goes through: us.mc.2115mail.yahoo.com/mc/welcome? server.
I find the "welcome?" particularly odious.
I wrote Hamsher twice asking for feedback on the instant(within 24 hours of signing) Marine hacking but have received not reply.
From OilyBombers Universal Extrajudicial Executive Execution claim to Marines hacking email of people petitioning for Human Rights only those in extreme denial would believe Fascism is "lurking"
Fascism has pounced, and is on steroids under OilyBomber.
But please vote Dimo and keep fossil fuels and Fascism and economic and social pyschotic depression. This state is obviously in many people's comfort zone keep it going vote Dimo.
Not me, two n glenn. I'm going to vote for Manning.
A Green vote would be a vote for Manning.

Good one. Made for good laugh around the office...
Please explain where the fun part is. Solitary confinement or Marines hacking email or Executive Executions?
Even tho 23 hrs solitary confinement with visitation hours is funny, it was the Marines hacking emails that did it for most people here.
Here's the explanation for what you are seeing:
Yahoo web server have names. They have a sh!t load of servers to accommodate everybody so they give them proper names.
In the case you are describing: the server name is "us.mc.2115mail.yahoo.com/mc/welcome?". Not entirely accurate. The name actually is us.mc2115.mail.yahoo etc (notice the dots in different locations)
"us" stands for united states. your location. you can change this one by going to your Yahoo account settings "Location and language" (pick Sweden if you want). I have "ca" (Canada) even tho i live in the US.
"mc2115" is Yahoo's name for the particular server. "mc" stands for "mail classic", works with everything. you can google "switch from yahoo mail classic" and you'll get some articles on how to switch to a newer version of yahooo mail. In that case the prefix of the server changes ot "mg", so no more Marines there :). New yahoo mail does not work nicely on all OSs or browsers.
2115 is simply the number of the server.
Hope this helps.
You may be correct but I first noticed the address when I received a page that said your DNS has been broken and we suggest you go to these US Marine Corps sites.
This happened again a few weeks later.
The number is actually 1215
Manning does not get visitation every day, his isolation is enough to debilitate him enough to procure false statements vis a vis Assange.
Thanks for the hardware advice. Manning is being turned into mental mush to obtain false statements against Assange otherwise the State will have not much of a case against Assange. The State wants Manning to claim Assange was involved in the stealing of the information.
Why does Jane Hampsher still support the Democratic Dimwitted Party?
if i were Jane Hamsher, i would sue the bastards all the way to the supreme court.
not that i think i will win in this court of injustice.
but that i can help make the system too expensive to defend.
We need to interrogate, torture and make an example of Manning; otherwise we will not be able to put the fear into other potential Bradley Manning's.
Missing from article - Hamsher's car was towed while they were held.
Taking a vehicle onto a military installation is automatic consent to search.
If they refused the search, the military then had the right to tow it.
You sons of bitches. When he is finally let out, drooling, incoherent, disoriented, the pigs in uniform will say "See, we told you he was not a credible source of information".
Obama, do your bosses have you on a rope so short that you can not even let let this patriot get dressed and see the sun? I hope you all rot in hell.
Second that.
I third that.
Fourth that!

Quantico is near civilization. Why isn't there a tent city nearby with thousands of demonstrators pushing against the fence every day?
Answer: Americans really don't give a damn.
They would soon be on the other side of the fence.
There have been protests--hundreds of people on several occaisions-- but it doesn't make it on to the M$M.
There are lots of Americans who care. It would help if we had a few courageous leaders (not our President, for sure) who would show us the way.
