Wolfowitz, War Architect, Named to Head US Security Panel

Paul Wolfowitz, an architect of the war in Iraq in the Bush administration who became World Bank president only to resign in a pay scandal, was named Thursday as head of a US government advisory panel.0125 03

The State Department announced Wolfowitz’s appointment as Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice’s chairman of the International Security Advisory Board (ISAB).

ISAB, the department said, is “a source of independent insight, advice, and innovation on all aspects of arms control, disarmament, nonproliferation, political-military issues, and international security and related aspects of public diplomacy.

“The ISAB provides analysis and insight into current issues-of-interest for the secretary on a regular basis,” according to a statement.

Wolfowitz has been serving as a visiting scholar in foreign and defense policy studies at the American Enterprise Institute, where he studies development issues.

Wolfowitz, widely credited with raising Africa’s profile in the World Bank’s lending activities, agreed to leave his post on June 30 in the face of accusations he violated bank rules in arranging a promotion for his girlfriend, a bank employee.

Wolfowitz consistently argued that he had acted in good faith in the matter.

Under President George W. Bush, he served as deputy defense secretary where he was a proponent of the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq.

In his decades of public service, he was also Under Secretary of Defense for Policy, US Ambassador to Indonesia, Assistant Secretary of State for East Asia and Pacific Affairs and Director of Policy Planning at the Department of State.

Does this mean the my taxes are going to pay for the loan that will pay this war criminal’s salary?

  2. Jeffrey Courion January 25th, 2008 12:06 pm

The dam that used to hold the ideals of America is rapidly breaking into small pieces all over the place. The cells of this slithering, subversive virus of an administration is taking hold and has invaded the waters only because the court has been stacked, the congress subverted and the body politic remains anesthetized.

A way to respond is as a natural immune system. Do what you can where you are — act locally doing your part — and sooner or later the efforts will connect — the body will go into high fever — the virus will die — and we will awaken in the dried sweat having outpoured the toxins — having to arise and build again.

No. Your children and grandchildren will pay taxes to pay this war criminal´s salary.

Is there some way to stop this appointment, can Congress do something about
it? This guy is a crook and a murderer. Can we remove Rice for slapping
    this on our face?

  5. Saila January 25th, 2008 12:35 pm

    Translation:

Named to head Israel Security Panel.

Why not; he’s a dual national. Good position to start scare mongering the hell out of United Staesians.

  6. buffalo_ken January 25th, 2008 12:41 pm

Jeffrey Courion - Thanks for your words of wisdom.

I think it is also very important to hold onto your sense of humor. We have entered into the realm of “ridiculousness to the nth degree” and sometimes the only thing that enables one to hold onto to sanity is laughter and good company.

    Peace,
    Ken

Like here, here is a joke:

What kind of wolf is not inwit?

    Wolfowitz.

Citizens who support Democrats need to realize that these scoundrels don’t go away when they leave office.

I’m still waiting for Bill Clinton to bring charges on King George I for lying about being out of the loop on Iran/Contra. Oops, too late.

  9. thinkingmom January 25th, 2008 1:10 pm

I just read an artlcle on thestreet.com entitled The Five Dumbest Things on Wallstreet this week..and in it I learned that Stan O’Neal has been appointed to the board of directors of Alcoa. This is the Stan O’Neal who had to leave Merrill Lynch because of billions of dollars in Bond losses…and funny on the same day I read this about Wolfowitz…and what I see is validation of the belief that there is a “club” of power people who look out for each other…and are basically running the world. This has NOTHING to do with COMPETENCE or value to the company/gov’t. It’s all about POWER and control. ANd as much as women and minorities talk about a glass ceiling…it’s really there for everyone, white men included…if you aren’t invited you can’t join the club…or get a position of real power, but boy, once you’re in…you’re in forever!!!…reality check…

  10. bandido January 25th, 2008 1:16 pm

Maybe he can get his girlfriend a job too, she must be at least as crooked and incompetent as the rest of these fools, a prerequisite for anyone in this government.

  11. horrified January 25th, 2008 1:23 pm

We have dual citizens running this country…see Chertoff to, and others in govt and congress. And peopple wonder why they call US of A the US of I. These folks are not looking out for the American people. They are looking out for their own racist folks in Israel.

  12. Plotkin35 January 25th, 2008 1:52 pm

This guy is just crooked wherever he goes. Champions a terrible idea in the Iraq war. Leaves office in disgrace, and GWB gets him in as the head of the World Bank…..keeping third world countries down…..sets up job for girlfriend (all on the up and up), and taking from his former bosses lead in nepetism, and leaving that position in a small disgrace, only to be appointed to be “a source of independent insight?” How can he be independent? Or insightful? He is a one sighted warmongering, rascist crook. Will this be followed by a small digraceful leave when he champions a war with Iran and his boss listens to him?

  15. Lord Trigo January 25th, 2008 2:10 pm

Man, I wish I had the kind of job security these guys have. Screwing up a war, putting your girlfriend on the payroll . . . just what do you have to do to be permanently off the neocons’ Christmas card list, anyway? Bugger Bush’s wife or dog on the White House lawn?

  16. Poet January 25th, 2008 2:15 pm

So how come we have to rely on Agence Presse France to find out this information?

“Those who make peaceful revolution impossible, make violent revolution inevitable.”–JFK

The sorry record of this current administration continues to roll through its 8th year just oozing with sleaze and slime. It will be replaced by a Hillary or Barack O administration oozing with the same.

Where they need to begin is not in Washington but on Wall Street where the masters of these corrupt officials enable them by their $upport. Next stop should be Madison Avenue where all the ad agencies whose genies use their genius to mislead “we the people” with deceit and enchantment.

Finally, a list of Fortune magazine’s 500 top corporations with annotations of their executives and board members (usually avaiable with the publically filed annual reports) would also provide targets of opportunity for such avenging angels.

The more criminal the established leadership becomes, the more radical will be the response from the abused.

Soon enough there will come a time when someone somewhere will take matters into their own hands and use force to eliminate some of these dirty birds. Then there won’t be enough Blackwater goons in ski masks with automatic weapons to keep them all safe.

See it’s the revolving door in and out of government for these war criminals. Wolfovitz is especially evil. But it’s the same group of psychopaths over and over and over again.

  24. whatfools January 25th, 2008 3:05 pm

What an evil grin! Even as I write this the Palestineans are being herded back into the killing fields that the Jewish state calls Gaza.

The only peaceful (maybe) way to do this is to shrink the power this government has–forever. Start building alternative institutions locally and then cut off their money.

  28. libertas fugit January 25th, 2008 4:10 pm

On another article in CD, the plan is exposed to start killing wolves in the Yellowstone area. Apparently the checks and balances that wolves make on deer, elk, etc., not to mention the occasional dog or cow is unacceptable.

Now we are paying to put a far more dangerous wolf into a position of predatory power?

As I said in my post on the other site (sorry to repeat, but I think it fits)

    Remember the NeoCon Cheney/Bush creed

Thou shalt have no predators before me.

After spending much of the morning reading Common Dreams articles and the ‘comments’ section, it’s just unreal. Whatever person coined the phrase,

“Truth Tis Stranger Than Fiction” knew very well, events of the time.

Another saying, used mostly by comedians is, “Folks, I’m Not Making This Up.”

    It’s all so surreal.

    whatfools,

Go to www.kpfa.org and scroll down to the show called ‘Living Room’ with Kris Welch. Click onto it and listen to yesterday’s talk about Gaza. I heard a little bit but now I want to hear the whole show.

“ISAB, the department said, is “a source of independent insight, advice, and innovation on all aspects of arms control, disarmament, nonproliferation, political-military issues, and international security and related aspects of public diplomacy.”

First question: What kind of “independent” insight could a collective neocon drone have to offer?

Second question: When did neocon Wolfowitz ever offer any innovative ideas that haven’t gotten this country into deeper trouble?

Third question: When did Wolfowitz ever make any innovative and constitutionally-supportive suggestions relative to the engagement of “public diplomacy”?

This country is headed for more pain and fiscal instability.

  34. kittyladyoregon January 25th, 2008 5:15 pm

The oligarchy moves on and on and on. It will not stop no matter who we “elect” as president in 2008. They are all part of the same club of corporate shills for Israel.

  35. AndyUK January 25th, 2008 5:18 pm

To Homeward-Angel, I would say this, we in the UK would like to see these characters tried and locked up for ever, but I don’t think it is that simple. The whole of Europe has changed - you have Sarkoszy in France, who is the most right wing president in history. Merkel in Germany is just a smoozer, who will go with the flow. Gordon Brown here in the UK has taken over from Bliar, with the same team and policies in place. If we lose Brown, then we get David Cameron, a teflon coated sickly populist who has already met your main man, and seems to have fallen head over heels in love with him.
Politics in Europe is very much like those in the US, very heavily involved with the corporate World.
The people we vote for always betray us and the country’s interests in the end.

  36. bakunin January 25th, 2008 5:31 pm

I say: “To the Hague with him for crimes against humanity.” Until the war criminals in our midst are called to account we will all be living in falsehood and will be complicit with the their evil doing, since we haven’t arrested and deported them. It offends me every time I see Henry Kissinger, Eliot Abrams, and others from an earlier era of crimes, and these new additions to the rogues gallery of war criminals who not only move about freely in our midst but are toasted as great statesmen and paid high fees for their speeches and seats on corporate boards.

  37. bakunin January 25th, 2008 5:36 pm

That evil grin is the grin of Leo Strauss, Wolfowitz’ guru who taught him that the ordinary people are just sheep to be mislead. manipulated, and utterly disregarded. This is the grin of arrogance, of extreme hubris, but it is also a warning of the tyranny which awaits us.

Rome became mired in the Middle East and each emperor kept passing their failure to deal with the quagmire onto the next emperor. The institutions of Roman society developed into a military bueracracy.

This nation has been and is being looted of its wealth, it’s honor, it’s freedom and ultimately of it’s sovreignty. If you want to know who the looters are, look to whom any “viable” candidate for the presidency pays obescience. look up and read the communication between O’bama and our Ambassador to the UN yesterday relative to the jailbreak in Gaza— Same thing with Hillary.
The Honorable Dennis Kucinich left the fray— he refused to pay allegiance to another country and was marginalized and may be destroyed as a public figure, as a number of challengers for his seat in congress have recently been arranged.

  46. shakker January 25th, 2008 8:46 pm

One thing Bu$h the inferior and his administration needs is a greedy, unethical, war criminal, with really bad ideas. There are only a few with all these traits in abundance so they need to recycle the really good ones like Wolfowitz.

  47. bakunin January 25th, 2008 8:47 pm

Pure existential nausea is the only reasonable response to this disgusting news. We no longer have recourse to our “elected officials” who dis us every time we contact their offices to complain about yet another violation of the constitution. Even the so-called liberals are part of the problem. Only a handful of courageous mavericks like Kucinich dare to speak the truth in the City of Shame–Washington DC. I know in the depths of my being the hour is too late for this country. It cannot be saved–it is headed for tyranny and doom. I hope to save myself as the Jews who fled Germany and Austria saved themselves before it is too late.

If this wasn’t so dreadful and chilling, it would be funny, but it is hard to make a joke when my dread of the future trails me like an icy shadow. It feels as if we are living in times where the mask of evil stares down and laughs at us from every corner. It is more Orwellian than even Orwell imagined although his prescience is abit eeire.

These days it feels as if “the fix is in”. Our elections will continue to be rigged sham. Our media will continue to behave as the propaganda wing of the powerful elite that they are, our politicians to move beyond continually disappointing us, to disgusting us on a daily basis. We are in for some rough times folks, so hang on to those you love for dear life.

I gotta believe that it is always darkest before the dawn, and in time, we, the people will drive the vermin out of their dark corners and into the Light of Truth, where they will face the Justice they so deserve.

If not, the Lords of Karma are keeping absolutely accurate records of their every deed, and I, for one, would not want to have to face up to the karmic debt these criminals are accruing. Can you imagine how many lifetimes it will take for them to balance their books? I shudder at the thought—it even makes me feel a little bit of compassion. They lost their moral compass and they are clearly adrift. Poor souls!

He also resurrects the careers of the worst of the worst in american politics. an absolute disaster for America

  53. urthsong January 26th, 2008 12:59 am

Of course Wolfowitz is appointed to a key advisory panel where he can do the most harm. That’s the whole idea. I will NEVER, EVER vote for another Republican ever again nationally or locally. That party has been corrupted to the core beyond redemption. As to posters who put Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama in the same category, I think you are absolutely wrong. Any one of the Democratic candidates for president, still running or having withdrawn, would make a better president than any of the sold out Republicans, Gravel included. My pick is Edwards. So shoot me. Our best bet is to support progressives running for Congress in the primaries. We need strong candidates to go up against seated Republicans in the general election. I am worried about the 69,000 precincts where voters use computers with no paper trails including all of them in my state. They’ve been rigged before. They’ll be rigged again. We’re fortunate that so many are not committed. It makes it less likely to rig the computers with any degree of control of the vote. That’s how so many Democrats won seats in 2006 proving Rove’s overconfidence. Still, between 10 and 16 Repbublicans took seats fraudulently making 2007 another miserable year. Come h*ll or high water, I’m getting to the polls.

  54. spoilerjohn January 26th, 2008 1:23 am

The N.Y.Times gave this story 26lines at the bottom
of page 6a. USA Today used it as a filler with ten
lines on the bottom of page 4. Neither paper wrote
a word of pertinent info: when, where, the panel meets,
how many in the panel, who are other members, what did Condi say, (if she even knew about it) nor what are Wolfie’s duties and so on.

SJ tells me his duties will be twofold: Wolfie will
push for war with Iran within the State Dept. and
he will relay orders from The Dick Cheney to Condi
Mushroom Cloud. The Dick will marginalize Condi M.C.
just as he marginalized Colin Powell in the same job.
Those are his duties, just those. Forget panel. For-
get advisor. That is all crapola. Its all about dom-
inating State and another war to maybe stay in power.

How did we get into this dilemma?

bakunin-while these rogues are loose they will work to subvert any meaningful change within society. 21st century is the, or shall i say, could be the dawning of a great age, where humankind rises to a new level of conscienceness. A great awakening is upon humanity as it discovers itself as just a part of a larger whole. These ‘people’ out there are not people as you know them. they are the embodiment of evil, a physical manifestation that gains power through peoples thoughts and feelings. The only way to fight them is through Conscienceness Expansion, some might prefer to say the act of Loving and Light. All im trying to say is the best way to resist these evils are to positivly work in your own reality and change your own surrondings. Sometimes its as easy as giving someone a smile or waving to your neighbor, or calling on a friend.

We Will encourage all who resist by sending small miracles, mostly unnoticed, but nevertheless life altering. Turn away all thought that you now have of this whole post and dream the nice dream, you deserve it…

I can’t believe the American people vote to screw themselves time and time again. We elected war criminals, perverts, neo-nazis to lead us to govern us…many Jews helped Hitler in the beginning before he started torturing them and then it was too late. They did it out of greed, just like Wolfowitz, Silverstein, Kristol, Perle, Feith, etc., are helping American fascism today.

They don’t care about Israel, much less about Palestinian Afghani and Iraqi children, they only care about money, they will destroy Israel in the end because of their greed. It will one day come back to haunt them unless they get lucky and Clinton gets elected to make us all forget their war crimes, their complicity in 911, etc., by sweeping it under the rug.

The most pertinent question we should be asking Clinton , Obama and Edwards ….and asking and asking again and again is: Will you hold these war criminals from Bush and Cheney on down to the assistant secretaries accountable for war crimes, torture, genocide, infanticide, crimes against humanity? Will criminal prosecutions be initiated immediately after you take office?

YES! Rosemary’s baby! The short head and animal ears, the wrinkled smile. He looks just like the devil! Its the mark of the beast! Maybe he should follow that guy the chopped off his hand and Wolfie should chop off his own head! Boy that would be sport, huh!

Maybe bush is the anti christ and he is going to be the heyokia/trickster for us all to show us how close the hell we are. He wont get us out.

“In your face America! The same bunch of clown’s that did 9/11 are still running the show and they don’t give a crap about anything we say about it.”

Fear-not, willo: they DO care, very-much, what you say — about ‘anything’.
They (the NSA and several-others) are ‘real-time’ monitoring/recording what you ’say’ every single-day — on the ‘Internets’ (”A series of Tubes, not Trucks”) and on your home-phone/cell. [Someday, you may very-well wish they ‘cared and gave-a-crap-less’ about what you say, trust Me!]

“I can’t believe the American people vote to screw themselves time and time again. We elected war criminals, perverts, neo-nazis to lead us to govern us…many Jews helped Hitler in the beginning before he started torturing them and then it was too late.”

It’s ‘never too late’, obviously and ‘painfully’… Those wealthy/banker/corporate-Ashkenazim (not Sephardi, btw) you refer-to continued to benefit under Hitler (as did many American-corporations like IBM or bankers like Prescott Bush and Rothschild — Hitler’s probable-grandfather [Rothschild for Hitler…not Prescott, who was for our-Fascist]). At war’s end, many also came to America when ‘rewarded’ by Project-Paperclip or Wall-Street’s/CIA’s other programs like MKULTRA, also [or went to join the Mossad/IDF/etc. in their future and purported ‘homeland’].

Isn’t Wolfowitz the same smarmy right-wing Jew that provided the rationale for the Iraqi War? Of course he is. We should know by now that you can’t kill these neo-con snakes; they’re like the shingles virus that just goes underground until the host weakens. And of course the putrid intellectual dungeon where they hide is the AEI.

Thank God the Russians’ under the leadership of Putin, started taking back their country from the Wolfowitz gang of thugs. After the “privatizers” looted the country under Yeltzin and the ‘benevolent’ money manipulator, George Soros. Things got pretty bad over there. The Europeans are worried more about us than they are of Russia.

But, with the world’s largest population of people ‘dedicated to ignorance’, Americans have already forgotten the evil deeds concocted by ‘The Prince of Darkness’.

I guess when we need a wheelbarrel of money to buy a loaf of bread…

There’s an interesting book by Edwin Black entitled “The Transfer Agreement” which I’ve been meaning to read, but never got around to it. I’ve long tried to understand how it is that the grandchildren of powerful/industrial Nazi supporters have now become some of the staunchest neocons around.

This book discusses the agreements between some Nazis and western autocrats — and powerful Jews — at establishing the ethno-religious state of Israel. Looks like large portions of the book are available for preview on Google Books.

Again, I analyze this as the usual poison produced when rich and powerful interests make autonomous decisions. It wasn’t good for the Jews, and it wasn’t good for the West. We’re stuck with the ideological descendants — scoundrels on both sides — still trying to make good of their track record of bad and unchecked ideas. Arrogance always works that way.

This administration - “Re-cycled Warmongers.” Cheney. Wolfy, Rummy, etc. The US really needs to dump ALL these guys and NO MORE BUSH’S! Wolfy should be in prison with the rest of them for engineering a false war. The election of a sane Democratic President can’t come soon enough!

birdflewonder said: The most pertinent question we should be asking Clinton , Obama and Edwards ….and asking and asking again and again is: Will you hold these war criminals from Bush and Cheney on down to the assistant secretaries accountable for war crimes, torture, genocide, infanticide, crimes against humanity? Will criminal prosecutions be initiated immediately after you take office?

You don’t get it. The same people behind Bush and Cheney are also behind Obama, Clinton and Edwards. They all bow to AIPAC. They’d give lip service to going after each other but would not do it. Don’t you remember Pelosi and impeachment is off the table? AIPAC made her do that. Even if we asked them do you really think they’d tell the truth of thier own corruption? Hell no. Wolfowitz and AIPAC work hand in hand. As long as AIPAC exists Wolfowitz and his buddies will reinvent themselves.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Just look at this war criminal’s face, it’s telling. His corrupt, evil, twisted and smirking face says, “Honey I’m back!”

“he violated bank rules in arranging a promotion for his girlfriend”

Do you think he disclosed that on his new job application?

if he did do you think they took that into consideration?

at least he didn’t get a BJ from Monica, he would defiantly be disqualified.
