Bill Clinton: George H.W. Bush Will Help President Hillary
ORANGEBURG, South Carolina - Former President Bill Clinton said Monday that the first thing his wife Hillary will do when she reaches the White House is dispatch him and his predecessor, President George H.W. Bush, on an around-the-world mission to repair the damage done to America’s reputation by the current president - Bush’s son, George W. Bush.
“Well, the first thing she intends to do, because you can do this without passing a bill, the first thing she intends to do is to send me and former President Bush and a number of other people around the world to tell them that America is open for business and cooperation again,” Clinton said in response to a question from a supporter about what his wife’s “number one priority” would be as president.
A spokesman for the George H.W. Bush was not immediately available to comment on whether the former president would chip in some diplomatic help after his son leaves office next year.
Clinton and the elder Bush, rivals in the 1992 presidential election, have grown chummy in recent years, often traveling and appearing at public events together. In 2005, they started a charity to help victims of Hurricane Katrina.
UPDATE: The Republican National Committee issued this statement in response to Clinton’s comments:

I’ve voted for Democrats in every election since 1964, but when I saw Bill Clinton with that sheepish grin on his face standing next to elder Bush I knew we’d been betrayed. I wouldn’t vote for Hillary under any circumstances because of that event only. Anybody who talks about “uniting this country” or “reaching across the isle” is a flat out phoney and not worthy of a vote. I will only vote for a democratic candidate who strongly opposes the repugs and vows to plow them under!

Ragdoll, you are so right. Instead of trying to “fix” our image, we need to “fix”our foreign policy and the way we interact with (and treat) the rest of the world. They were called Potemkin villages, and its not from a fairy tale.
Potemkin was an adivsor to one of the Russians czars. And so, when the Czar would go out and decide to see his people once a year or so, Potemkin made sure that everything along the route looked wonderful, in a false-front, movie-set sort of way. So the czar would see all these villages that were either repainting or hidden behind the phony false-fronts on buildings, and never see the squaller that his subjects actually lived in.
The politicans may like to begin by repairing their reputation to the middle class and poor of america.
We do not seem to exist except at tax time and buying time to support the corporations and the government.
Improve world relations? They just might try to be just and fair to all. That would work here too.

If I had to vote for someone this minute (looks like Edwards is having a “bimbo eruption”…check Drudge), IF Kucinich was still in the running, I’d probably vote for him. If he was out of the race and Ron Paul was still in, I would vote for him.
Strictly on the issue of ending our military interventions globally, getting a grip on the dollar and our economy, fighting to get our Constitution on firm footing and all of our rights secured. Stopping torture, Blackwater and on and on and on.

And speaking of “going along to get along”, try to catch CSPAN’s coverage of Chris Dodd last night speaking against the Telecom Immunity in the FISA bill. To paraphrase him, “I’m not going to continue going along and voting for bills I know are wrong anymore. It’s over!”
He didn’t change the vote on this FISA bill….yet. Reid held it off until after the holidays. But there is a chance that senators will change their votes after they go home to drink eggnog and make nice with their irate constituents over this.
I do give Chris Dodd a lot of credit for what he did last night.

Bill and George can spotlight it (which one should play “A Mac” and who should play “A PC” during the warm-up session while Coulter and Lewinski and Rice prance about in dominatrix cheerleader outfits?), and we can round up all sorts of other characters to represent all that is good and squishy about America that we want people to remember after these dark years. How about Rumsfeld? Former President Bush wholeheartedly supports the President of the United States, including his foreign policy. Hillary is a Republican in Democratic clothing just as Joe Lieberman was. She and Bill are buddy-buddy with the Bush family, and why not? They share the same values. They both love war and war profiteering, doing AIPAC’s will, serving corporations first and not the citizens of the United States, etc. I wouldn’t consider voting for either Hillary or Obomba. Both are corporately-owned candidates.

Hillary supported Joe Lieberman over Lamont in the CT primary. Barack Obama chose Joe Lieberman for his mentor. That’s one of the reasons to not consider voting for either Hilllary or Obama. All three are warmongers; they’ll vote for war over peace any day and will continue to use our tax money for unnecessary wars to enrich themselves and their cronies by war profiteering. They’ll do whatever Israel wants them to do, not what U.S. citizens want.

Nah, you’re just in time for Clintonpalooza’s latest celebrity guest: they’re going to appoint “Papa Doc” Duvalier as Special Ambassador to the Caribbean as soon as the voodoo priests finish resurrecting him.
Why not? Bush 41 is an accomplished foreign emissary. Ambassador to China. CIA Director.
As President, it was widely acknowledged that foreign policy was his strong suit, and he was an asset under Reagan in same.
But, the main thing Bush 41 brings is dignity and class. He might not be a brilliant orator, but no one can deny the tremendous gulf (maybe a bad pun) in character between Bush 41 and Bush 43.
In fact, a lot of the Clinton-bashing was fear about the generational changing of the guard from the great generation to the baby boomers that Bush 41 to Clinton represented.
Bush 41 is perhaps the best remaining American representative of a generation of Americans who understood the complexities of the world, and stood up to face them with courage and responsibility.
I only worry that maybe his brain has already shrunk to a raisin and maybe he’s not up to it anymore.

I was apolitical for many years. I only woke up when I saw the Bush - Ferraro “debate”. It was then I realized that he was not the kind of person I would ever want to vote for. His wife referred to Ferrao as “something that rhymes with witch…” it went something like that. No thanks, don’t want him as an emissary and the possibility that Hil even thinks he is representative of the Americans is enough to make me a voter for Edwards. I’m not at all happy to learn that Obama thought of Lieberman as his mentor. Is this true? If so, I have just struck him from my possible choices.
Hey, I got an idea…..Let’s look at all of the candidates thru the Leiberman lens. Can anyone post sources that tie any candidates to Leiberman? As much as I like Senator Dood, he also supported that traitor over Lamont. I’d like to know why. And why did Gore choose him as a running mate? Has Leiberman changed his spots, or was he just hiding them from everyone?

IMHO, strategic voting in the primaries has been very harmful to our party. I’ve got nothing bad to say about Edwards and I’ll gladly campaign for him if he wins the nomination. That said, if Kucinich is your favorite, please vote for him. He really has earned it.
