Done Deal

by Barbara J. Miller

George W. Bush’s war has generated enough tears to hydrate the Sahara. More tears this morning. Cindy Sheehan has thrown in the towel. Her protest against the war that killed her son Casey is over. She has come to the conclusion that Casey died for nothing. Nothing at all. That, and her realization that America “cares more about who will be the next American Idol than how many people will be killed in the next few months while Democrats and Republicans play politics with human lives.” She’s right. And the tears dribble down to my keyboard. There’s more.

Cindy never minced words in her long struggle to bring Bush’s immoral war into national focus. She infuriated a lot of people with her candor. Bush blew her off, refusing to speak to her, even when she camped out in his neighborhood. But Bush will not speak to anyone who has not been thoroughly vetted by his people. He will not converse with anyone who disagrees with him. Which means, of course, that he is completely isolated from reality. But then you already knew that, didn’t you?

The woman is not a saint. She made mistakes and missteps. But she never stopped trying. Her gutsy stand cost her her marriage, her savings and her health. That’s how much she loves her son. That’s how much she wanted to help move her country onto a moral track. Clearly too big a job for one woman.

Cindy Sheehan. Love her or despise her. Either way, she has been this country’s fearless conscience for three long years. She has spoken out in ways that put our cowardly politicians to shame. There’s that five-letter word again. The thing of which there is zero, zip, nada in Washington D.C.

In the end, even the Democrats turned on her. You see, she wouldn’t sit down and behave herself. She pissed off everyone by calling America “a fascist corporate wasteland.” The thing is, she’s right about that, too. One nation, under the god of rampant consumerism and the bottom-line.

Cindy said, “I am going to go home and be a mother to my surviving children and try to regain some of what I have lost. I will try to maintain and nurture some very positive relationships that I have found in the journey that I was forced into when Casey died and try to repair some of the ones that have fallen apart since I began this single-minded crusade to try and change a paradigm that is now, I am afraid, carved in immovable, unbendable and rigidly mendacious marble.”

You know that thing about not knowing what you had until you’ve lost it? We have lost our most consistently strong voice in the land of the mealy-mouthed. We have lost the burr under George’s saddle. It sickens me to think of his smirky celebration of the news that his nemesis has packed it in, even as the Democrats are losing their way, if indeed they ever knew what it was. And once again, America comes up the big loser.

I want so much to be able to tell Cindy that her son died for something. Turns out he didn’t. How many more? How many?

I want Casey to have not died in vain; here’s a thought from the 60s–What if they called a war and nobody showed up? Casey’s death led, as all such deaths do, to extreme heartache for his mother; and as many such deaths do to an ended marriage, and to impaired physical health. Casey’s death is like all other deaths except this–his mother made his the most well known death of a noncelebrity soldier in modern times. Let his death stand as the death of Every Soldier, whose Every Mothers have cried and ranted and raved for years–tell all our sons, don’t go. Don’t do that to your mother, to any mother, to any father, brother or sister. Don’t kill, don’t be killed. Stop.

Cindy Sheehan is a true American hero.
Unfortunately she is also correct in my opinion.
About most everything she has said and done these past few years.
Especially her recent acceptance of the fact that America as it now exists is NOT the country I grew up believing it to be. Especially her realization that it is already too late to turn things around.
As awful as it sounds my only advice to anyone who might want it is to accept that we are a fascist, corporate wasteland and it ain’t gonna get any better.
There are two options as I see them.
Live in it or move away. If I had the financial means to do so I would be gone already.
Anyone kind enough to donate to a fund to enable me to leave can count on me doing whatever is in my power to help them do the same once I get on my feet somewhere else.
    This is NOT a joke.

I agree with everything the writer says and to show how little people care mine is only the fourth comment about a mother who gave everything and got nothing in return.George Bush is no part of a man a damn coward YES. IMPEACH NOW.

You are TOTALLY WRONG when you say “the Democrats turned on her.” Many of us still view her with great respect for standing up as one of the FIRST MOTHERS who lost a son to speak out against this war. Hundreds since have found the strength to speak up too as a result of Cindy’s strong stand.

We who are a part of the progressive MAJORITY of the party applaud her efforts to bring this nation to its senses. We also understand how long and hard she’s worked and know she really needs a BREAK when she’s been so engaged for so long.

I certainly hope that we see her again, since she came to many of the Los Angeles events and always spoke from the heart.

My photo of her is on the progressivecaucuscdp.org website under photo galleries. It’s one of my favorites with the little peace sign tatoo on her wrist.///

God bless Cindy Sheehan and her good works. Let them not be in vain.

The only “embarrassment” anti-war progressives should feel is for their vote last November. The Democratic party has betrayed its base and has even relied on Republican talking points about “troop support” to do it. Cindy was exactly right to criticize Democrats as well as Republicans–both parties bought this war, both parties refuse to call Bush and Cheney to accountability (Pelosi still refuses to put impeachment on the table), and both parties are gaining something from continuing the war. Furthermore, the Democrats have thrown away every chance to assure that Bush won’t attack Iran, including taking that language out of the supplemental. They have wined and dined AIPAC and have tripped over themselves in support of every Israeli war crime of the past 7 years. The Democrats have no moral leverage in this war, or in anything to do with the Mideast. Cindy Sheehan was one courageous, independent voice.

  7. Saab Lofton May 29th, 2007 8:31 pm

What the hell is all this? Sheehan quit! She’s not taking a break, she’s quitting! How dare Sheehan quit with all the privilege she has to spare?

    http://whiteprivilege.com/

Does she have any idea what peace activists have gone through over the years? Does Sheehan really think she’s been through more than they have? This is an insult to every member of the peace movement who hasn’t had a big deal made out of them and has STILL held the line!

  8. Saab Lofton May 29th, 2007 8:39 pm

Erin Brockovich, Dr. Helen Caldicott, the women from Code Pink, THESE are heroines. Why? They never gave up!

The predominately white peace movement brought this upon itself: The reason why Cindy Sheehan was made a big deal out of in the first place was because her son was a soldier and white activists were more concerned with impressing their ignorant, flag-waving relatives than they were with The Truth …

“There’s a lot of caution now,” said David Schmitz, a history professor at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Wash. “Many people who oppose the war in
Iraq are very concerned that they not be seen as being against the troops.”

I guess Calgon took Cindy Sheehan away …

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Calgon

In this advertisement, a woman is seen in a chaotic home scenario. As tension rises, she utters her famous line “Calgon, take me away!”. The next
scene shows her relaxing in a luxurious bath in a quiet room. The commercial is viewed as having been a success since people still remember it even
though it has not been aired in many years. Even today, an escape from a difficult day or situation is often referred to as a Calgon moment.

To all the Cindy bashers: what the hell have you done for us lately? Been arrested this week, month, ever? March on DC dozens of times yet? Let’s see some of those rubber bullet scars. Oh, don’t have any? Are you on the No Fly List yet? Why not? Are you planning any sit-ins this summer? Organizing any rallies? Providing financial support for those fighting on the domestic frontline for peace? No? Have you marched in front of recruitment centers? Camped out at Dick’s, or Karl’s house? Have you tried to sneak into the Senate and hold up a sign at the right moment?

You, what - voted? An angry email here and there? Vent a little frustration on a comment board? Bitched to a friend at a party? Bumper sticker? T shirt?

To all Cindy bashers: shut up and go away, or join the fight with more than your worthless words. When your level of sacrifice meets hers, we’ll talk again.

  10. Saab Lofton May 29th, 2007 10:21 pm

Those who HAVE been arrested, marched on DC, gotten rubber bullet scars, put on the No Fly List and are planning sit-ins this summer ought to be pissed as hell that Sheehan’s quitting.

Ask the veterans of the 1960s who STILL fight the good fight what they’ve done and ask them what they think of quitters. Not folks who take breaks, QUITTERS.

“When your level of sacrifice meets hers …” What sacrifice? Her son? Go to the ghetto/barrio, white Amerikkka, ask the mothers there what THEY’VE sacrificed!

  12. Words Are Important May 30th, 2007 2:09 am

Cindy Sheehan is to be commended, and if half the people who read Common Dreams did half the things Cindy did, this war would be over.

Yes, others sacrificed as well, but not many are able to express the issues as well as Cindy. Three years being on the front line, at the expense of family, all while believing that you can effect a change, and then realizing that even with super human effort (and the effort of all those around her) that there is no change, plus the heaping of slanderous comments, very few people can bear that. It is not humanly possible for most people, even if they support her. Like Frank says earlier, have you been arrested multiple times, have you put your convictions into words? I know I don’t, and I am pretty vocal. But I also operate under the safety of my home and friends.

What is more sad? That Casey died for nothing? Or that he died so some corporation could profit?

It is sad day for the peace movement, but we will continue, as I’m sure Cindy will continue to believe that what she did was right. She has done something that she can look back later in her life and say it was the right thing to do. The ultimate last gift for her son, to try to prevent other useless deaths.

    peace and justice

  13. Saab Lofton May 30th, 2007 1:14 pm

“Yes, others sacrificed as well, but not many are able to express the issues as well as Cindy.”

How do you figure? Was Sheehan as expressive an orator as the Rev. Jesse Jackson? Was she as expressive an author as the late, great Kurt Vonnegut? Was she as expressive an artist as Frida Kahlo?

I know Amerikkka is conditioned like Pavlov’s dog to blindly heap praise upon white women (even when they’re QUITTING something important), but STILL ..!

Sheehan endured the tragic death of her son, and for that, I’m sorry. But she spent TWO YEARS attending protests, that’s it.

And again, Sheehan’s claim to fame is that her son was a SOLDIER in IRAQ–and since most of the left are whites with right-wing relatives, Casey’s military record was used to appeal to said relatives (instead of simply telling said relatives how wrong they were).

  14. Bob Foster May 30th, 2007 1:29 pm

    Saab Lofton,
Who are these all-sacrificing protesters you are talking about? Until Cindy Sheehan stood up and stepped forward, there was virtually no anti-war voice being heard. The movement was certainly not on any media radar screens. I was out protesting BEFORE the war began, and we were small in numbers and pretty much reviled for our actions. I was also in the thick of things in the late sixties and early seventies. I’ve seen nothing even remotely like the passion of those days. I’ve not seen evidence of efforts from those days carrying forward.
How dare you make light of Ms. Sheehan’s loss of her son. How does the fact that she is white diminish her loss? Shame on you.

  15. John Freeman May 30th, 2007 1:33 pm

Cindy and the rest of us operate in a country that is about 50% dimwits with a unhealthy smattering of greedy sociopaths mixed in. Whist it may be said that cream rises….anyone who has ever had the honor of cleaning out a cesspool has an alternate opinion.

  16. Saab Lofton May 30th, 2007 2:49 pm

“Who are these all-sacrificing protesters you are talking about? Until Cindy Sheehan stood up and stepped forward, there was virtually no anti-war voice being heard. The movement was certainly not on any media radar screens.”

Then you need to reassess what media you’re taking in. Professors Noam Chomsky and Howard Zinn, Mumia Abu Jamal, Norman Solomon, Amy Goodman, any one of these people SHOULD’ve been hyped up on those radar screens you speak of. They weren’t–and Sheehan was–because of the mere fact that her son was in the military and that in and of itself made her more palatable to …

Then you oughta be just as pissed as I am that Sheehan’s quitting. In case you’re unclear on the concept, to quit equals not having the very passion you speak of …

    Every person who has died fighting in other countries for the US government since WWII ended has not died in vain. Those who died in WWII have now died in vain. You see Casey and the others all died for corporate profits. While not an honorable reason to fight and die, it is inded a reason. Those who fought in WWII to preserve democracy and freedom in America have died in vain because we have no more democracy in America today. I also protested the wars of both Afghanistan and Iraq before they occured. I think what is most important here is what Cindy Sheehan says;

“Casey died for a country which cares more about who will be the next American Idol than how many people will be killed in the next few months while Democrats and Republicans play politics with human lives. It is so painful to me to know that I bought into this system for so many years, and Casey paid the price for that allegiance. I failed my boy and that hurts the most.”

First, Casey did not die for his country, he died for corporate profits of the “leaders” of our nation. Iraq has nothing to do at all with the security of the US but everything to do with oil that Exxon Mobil and Texaco would like to have and Halliburton would love to rebuild.

Second, Cindy Sheehan and every mother who believes that their government is sending their children to war for reasons of democracy and freedom have failed their children. Hopefully they won’t all have to lose their children as Sheehan has done before they realize they have been fed lie after lie from BOTH parties.

I refuse to be pissed off at Cindy for losing heart in the anti war cause. It is a lost cause as Republicans clearly WANT more wars as it makes them tons of money and Democrats can’t seem to stop pretending to say no while making the same, tons of money on wars. It keeps the campaign oil money coming. Neither party is for the people, both are for themselves. So, unless American citizens are willing to turn off American Idol and call their Senators and Congressional Reps to demand no more war NOW, it will continue. I hear all the time how people are just too busy to be bothered with contacting elected officials with their lives or the elected officials are paid to do a job and so I shouldn’t have to worry about it. Those same folks all seem to know what happened last to Britanny Spears and Paris Hilton and who is the newest American Idol though. If you are angry about Cindy leaving the war protest movement then you need to ask yourself why you were so comfortable when she alone bore such a great burden. What are you doing now yourself to make changes in the way we live? Liberals need to stop whining about losing to tough conservatives and learn how to do things for themselves without some major bureaucratic govt program. Conservatives need to stop blaming liberals for every problem in the world today. Liberals, conservatives, and moderates need to realize that they are being played for fools by the American Aristocracy and are voting against their own personal best interests when they vote Democrat or Republican. Both parties get their money from the same corporate PAC’s and lobbyists. We have choices to make soon. Or we can do nothing as we have before and possibly end up losing one of your children to our war based economy built to support the defense contractors like Cindy Sheehan did. The choice is yours America.

I have read the posts and I agree with most of what I have read.
What I am about to say is totally self serving and if anyone chooses to condemn me I will surely understand it.
I have fought against this darkening cloud ever since I took Dr. Peters Political Science class in my local Community College more than 30 years ago.
I have written Congressmen, annoyed anyone willing to listen, kept my ACLU card up to date, and donated the limit to Dr. Dean in his Presidential bid.
I say those things because like Cindy Sheehan turning this ship around has been my obsession for most of my adult life.
    I give up.
I honestly believe that we have reached a point where it comes down to violent revolution or just getting the hell out.
    I am a Christian.
I cannot condone violence that would inevitably lead to loss of life.
    So I want to leave.
I have a good Profession and I can make a difference somewhere else.
But I need a relatively small amount of money to do so.
Anyone who might be inclined to donate need only to respond to this posting and I will gladly reply.
    This is completely serious.
My intent is to relocate to Mexico because I have established contacts there and believe that I can establish a viable business there.
And anyone who can assist me in this, or those that have not assisted me can be assured that I will do whatever I can to enable them to do as I am attempting to do.
I shall succeed in emigrating SOMEWHERE but I have done the footwork and have a plan.
Please feel free to join me in this endeavor.

    God Bless.

Reading the puerile, self-indulgent pap from Saab Lofton reinforces my statement made in another message board that Cindy has been victimized by a bunch of worthless, ineffectual schmucks who have to destroy everything that shows them for what they are. Has Lofton gone through the meat grinder like Cindy? Has she (he?) had to put up with the constant personal attacks that Cindy had to deal with? Heck, no. No one even knows who the blazes Saab Lofton is. When Lofton has accomplished a measurable fraction of what Cindy has done, then she (he?) and all the rest of the whiners have the right to complain about Cindy, but until that moment, my statement about worthless schmucks stands.

  20. Samski May 31st, 2007 11:16 am

Cindy has lost far more than just Casey.

She is a parent and is completely entitled to readjust her priorities to favour the remainder of her family - her life.

Good luck and best wishes to you Cindy, you did what you were able and spent all you could afford.

  21. Saab Lofton May 31st, 2007 1:32 pm

I’ve been an activist for twenty years whereas Sheehan’s only been at this for two, and I never once quit.

I’ve been gay bashed, a victim of police brutality, harassed by white supremacists and my award-winning newspaper column was censored–resulting in my current homelessness.

I’ve written novels, drawn comic books, hosted talk shows, interviewed Ralph Nader, Howard Zinn and Hulk Hogan, and even created Silverbullet–the world’s first black lesbian superheroine …

    http://www.saablofton.com/

I wish Sheehan the best and want her to return, but that still doesn’t change the fact that she’s famous solely because white leftists figured her son’s military background would impress their right-wing relatives …

The right, the corporate media and elite policy makers persist in painting “mainstream America” as white and middle class. Even many white liberals cling to the notion that building a mass movement against war necessitates the use of techniques and rhetoric that “don’t scare away” middle class whites. This way of thinking is anachronistic. The nation’s demographics have changed sharply over the last 40 years, even more dramatically over the last decade, with the result that people of color are fast becoming a majority in the U.S. More importantly, since people of color-war’s principal targets-have the greatest interest in holding back the war tide and, thus, activists of color have the most politically developed perspectives on the subject, they are a key source of ideas on how to strengthen work and improve outreach.

You damn right I’ve gone through the meat grinder. I’m so sick of week white women like Cindy who don’t have the balls to stick with it! A brother doesn’t have a choice. You think I want to spend my life flipping hamburgers. Hell no. I ain’t gonna work for an evil white establishment. I’m an activist day and night! I eat breath and shit activism!

This is the REAL Saab Lofton. And I evidently must be quite the activist if I’m worth impersonating! Can we say COINTELPRO?

But I doubt it’s a plant, it’s probably some gratuitously coy, snide, sarcastic bastard who’s trying to make me look bad. Why? The theory is that all these issues will instantly/magically disappear if I’m put in my place and taken down a notch; poverty, bigotry and atrocity will simply fade away if some asshole spits out a satirical one-liner or two.

  27. Saab Lofton May 22nd, 2008 8:39 pm

Of all the pen names to hide behind — when in FACT there’s nothing truthful about him/her. Yes, by all means, read Tim Boucher’s gratuitously coy, snide, stuck-up review of a book that’s OUT OF PRINT BECAUSE IT SOLD SO FAST! Asshole …

Whoever this bitch/bastard is, one thing’s for sure, he/she’s a STALKER, who’s exhibiting all the traits of obsession. Why else does he/she find it such an affront that I refuse to work a day job? What the Hell business is it of his/hers anyway? I mean, of all the causes to take on … Insofar as my stance on labor is concerned …

    http://www.trews.org/node/937

… and I dressed as a character from my second novel in order to promote/publicize it. Also too, since the character destroys every nuclear arsenal on Earth — as Superman did in the 1987 film The Quest for Peace — wearing it is an anti-nuclear statement as well. NOW the truth is known.

  28. Saab Lofton May 24th, 2008 2:14 pm

If anyone who AIN’T a bloody STALKER wants to know exactly how well I’ve done as an author, I’m not hard to find. What this person is OBSESSED with is the prospect that I’m living in subsidized housing I can afford while pursuing my labor of love …

    http://www.trews.org/node/937

… as opposed to slaving away at McDonald’s to this STALKER’S satisfaction. The premise being that if he/she puts me down, then I’ll quit being an author and work a day job to, again, this STALKER’S satisfaction. Well, guess what, loser? THAT’LL NEVER HAPPEN!

  29. Saab Lofton May 24th, 2008 10:44 pm

“I just suggested you get a job flipping burgers so you can eat. And also that’s really all your qualified for anyway. Your labor of love doesn’t pay well if you have to live in subsidized housing.”

The old expression is true — misery really does love company …

    http://www.trews.org/node/937

what really hurts is when the working class looks at me as if I’m some kind of snob for not wanting to ruin the hands I draw/type with doing some form of manual labor everyday (I guess misery really does love company). They can’t/won’t seem to grasp that I’m “on strike,” as it were, for them: The example I’m setting is supposed to inspire the masses to pursue their labors of love, to only accept ethical sources of income and to steer Humanity that much closer to a Roddenberryian utopia. Again, be the change that you seek; don’t hold your breath waiting for some vainglorious revolution to do it for you.

… and in order to practice what I preach, I found a way to afford to do what I was born to do and ONLY what I was born to do. This sick fuck, however, “thinks” I’ve gotten away with something — I wish SOMEONE would explain to his/her dumb ass that THIS is what a real welfare cheat looks like …

… and I’m qualified for a great many things, asshole. I just got hired to ghostwrite a novel, so once again, suck it bone dry!

Oh, and by the way, THERE ARE NO MORE COPIES OF A.D. EITHER! IT TOO SOLD IN RECORD TIME! YOU PICKED THE ONE BAD REVIEW OF IT!

  30. Saab Lofton May 24th, 2008 10:47 pm

Two other things: One, you found the ONE AND ONLY bad review of A.D. Two, EVERY COPY OF A.D. SOLD LONG TIME AGO. HALF ITS FIRST PRINTING SOLD WITHIN THE FIRST YEAR OF ITS RELEASE! Now try dismissing that with some snide comment!

  31. Saab Lofton May 25th, 2008 10:22 pm

“We know that you Sabb Lofton are qualified for a great many things. For example: burger flipping, taco making, sweeping, janitorial services and lets not forget especially good at bitching and whining!”

What a racist statement! A black man is only good for servitude? I wasn’t put on this Earth to serve and certainly NOT to impress yo’ ass! Besides, it’s not possible to impress you, because you’re not the slightest bit interested in the truth. You’re going out of your way to find the two or three folks who, like you, are stuck-up pricks who didn’t like my work and suspiciously ignoring the vast majority who like it.

“If it were so great, I’m sure there would be some wealthy black publisher who would come along and scoop that rotten peace of shit up.”

Oh sure, my naive stalker — life is just that simple. It’s just that easy to make it in the world. Well, WHY DON’T YOU DO IT? You hide behind pen names, so it’s clear that you’re not the least bit interested in showing how much better at MY job you are than me, so anyone with ANY sense at all can tell you’re full of shit!

  32. Saab Lofton June 2nd, 2008 12:03 pm

Matthew, Tim Boucher and you ought to get along famously — you’re all coy, snide, stuck-up pricks, so I’m not suprised that you’d find Matthew to be your cup of tea. Birds of a feather …

Seeing as how your antics have gotten that “Fuck Bubba” page from propaganda press wiped clean from the Net (not to mention how you’ve pissed off Dr. Joshua Ellis from Vegas by coming onto his site), what you’re bringing up is out of context — especially seeing as how I doubt anyone from commondreams is even reading this thread any more, but just for the record …

    http://archive.coanews.org/tiki-read_article.php?articleId=1744

On Friday, February the 9th, 2007, there was an ad on craigslist.org with the following deadline: “Envrionmentally friendly writer wanted”. I met the man who placed the ad–a white environmentalist named Matthew–and the plan was for me to write an online, eco-friendly literary serial for him (the content would be akin to the environmentally conscious cartoon Captain Planet). New episodes would be added onto his website every week and I’d receive just enough to pay my rent every month for having done so. When Matthew read the pilot episode of my serial, however, he claimed it was “too radical and too intellectual for the average American”–namely, his Republican father and relatives–just as network executives from NBC initially told Gene Roddenberry that Star Trek was “too cerebral”. As a result of Matthew’s cowardice, I’m still homeless and unemployed as I’ve been since my award-winning newspaper column in Las Vegas fell victim to corporate censorship in 2005.

… you’ll deny this, of course, but then, ‘yo ass was never interested in facts, proof or evidence anyway. On the other hand, those geniunely interested in the real truth (and not fooled by some coward impersonating me or hiding behind a series of pseudonyms), again, I’m not hard to find.

  33. Saab Lofton June 2nd, 2008 6:29 pm

“You’ll try to change the subject of course because Your not interested in telling anyone the truth.”

I’ll tell anyone BUT YOU, because you’re an OBSESSED STALKER (to be honest, I shouldn’t have talked to you THIS long, psycho). Besides, it’s clear you’re not the least bit interested in any kind of truth. How do I know this? Your own words:

“I think Matthew was really trying to be polite when he said your Hempman serial was ‘too radical and too intellectual for the average American.’ I think what he really wanted to say was that Hempman is the dumbest peace of asinine shit I have ever read and how can I politely drop this loser without making him cry racist!”

You weren’t there, I WAS, and I KNOW what that coward Matthew said to me (AND what he meant), so again, it’s clear all you’re interested in is the next zinger/one-liner (now I know how Batman feels whenever he deals with the Joker). By the way, Hempman is currently running in Great Britain …

    http://www.funkyraw.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=235

… so what are you going to do now, STALKER? E-mail England ..?

Bottom line? NOTHING you say or do will make me work a day job. I’ve been surviving off the sales of my work (and ONLY the sales of my work) for the past five years, and by God, I’ll continue to do so until I DIE.

  34. Saab Lofton June 3rd, 2008 12:44 pm

“I think if you were seen by a psychiatric specialist he might diagnose you as either schizophrenic or manic impaired.”

What would a psychiatric specialist say about a stalker who spends weeks going from website to website leaving shitty comments under a variety of pseudonyms about someone they’re clearly obsessed with — even going so far as to impersonate the object of their obsession?

You ain’t got a case, son. You pick the ONLY bad reviews of mine — all three of them — and conviently IGNORE the VAST MAJORITY (Tony Norman, Pittsburgh Gazette, 1998 … Inner Journeys: THE INDEPENDENT PRESS REVIEW, 1996 … Darius James
New York Press, November 12-18, 1997 … Chuck Munson, Practical Anarchy). And in the cases of BOTH books, EVERY COPY WAS SOLD! THEY’RE ALL GONE, ASSHOLE!

“… it was a hemp manifesto professing the glory of hemp bullshit. Scratch a pothead and ask them why marijuana is outlawed, and there’s a good chance you’ll get some version of the ‘hemp conspiracy’ theory.”

Jack Herer, the author of The Emperor Wears No Clothes, offers a hundred thousand dollar reward to ANYone who can prove him wrong about hemp. Well, just as you can’t prove me wrong, you can’t prove Herer wrong either. LIVE IN REALITY.

  35. Saab Lofton June 3rd, 2008 8:24 pm

God, you’re such a liar. Darius James had NOTHING to do with the publishing of A.D. You’re reaching more than usual, STALKER.

As for the rest, I expect nothing less from a right-winger. It couldn’t possibly be the rich and powerful’s fault, so blame the victim. Blame Canada while you’re at it.

    http://www.commondreams.org/news2004/0921-04.htm

You’re not exposing me because I have nothing to hide. Then again, I don’t have anything to prove to your sorry ass either. This already-far-too-long conversation is over. From here on, you’ll be talking to yourself.

    Battle Neverending and Revolutionary Storytelling?
    From: david natko (dnatko@hotmail.com)
    Sent: Sat 6/07/08 11:01 PM

Hey Saab, I don’t know if you remember me at all but I’m ****’s friend that you met at the Teach-In. I finally got around to reading your book, Battle Neverending, and I have to say that I was quite impressed. Not impressed in the sense that I didn’t expect it to be good, but rather in the sense that it exceeded my already high expectations. I found the writing style to be witty and intelligent but at the same time fluid and very easy to read. Once I started, I couldn’t put it down. I think your style of radical science fiction is highly relevant and an interesting and effective way to disseminate revolutionary ideas … Of the different segments, I would have to say the last one, Battle Neverending is my favorite. I think Tomorrowman is a great superhero. It’s too bad he doesn’t really exist, the Left could certainly use him … The real shame then, is that more people don’t know about him. I also read your proposal for the North Star television series. I have to say, although I don’t watch TV, I would probably watch that … **** told me about the stalker situation and I’d like to express my sympathy. It’s too bad that twisted motherfuckers like that find the need to take out their personal frustration on others. Nonetheless, he (or she) is exactly that, a twisted motherfucker, and maybe this is wide-eyed naivete, but I believe that in the end good triumphs over evil … I for one, can’t wait to read more of your material. Is it at all possible that I could find a copy of A.D. somewhere? I’d love to read the novel that caused such a stir … Anyways, hang in there. Like I said, I can’t wait to read more material. I must say, I think I am officially a Saab Lofton Fan. Live long and prosper, David

  37. Saab Lofton June 13th, 2008 12:07 pm

    “You’re a scared ass Hypocrite!”

This coming from a motherfucker who won’t even use his/her real name … How can an anonymous, psuedonym-using imposter possibly claim martyrdom? WHO will the postmortem statue be dedicated to?

I have every right to deal with what appears on MY website as I see fit — and while it’s not ideal, it is understandable that (for once) I took the same stance that Castro does; when Cuba’s ability to fund/send free doctors around the world is at stake, yeah, sometimes the ends DO justify the means.

And what was this stalker doing with his/her precious free speech? Lying about me in the desperate hope that doing so will force my ass to work a day job — knowing full well I’d rather DiE than ever let that happen, he/she must want me dead. Therefore, my life is at stake and I’ve every right to defend myself.

There’s NOTHING “unverifiable” about the sales of my work. My publishers would be more than happy to answer any polite, legitimate questions, but to date, NO one (aside from this obsessed psychopath) has asked to be put in touch with them. Again, the stalker hopes to make me look bad EVEN THOUGH the books in question (quickly) sold out a WHILE ago — how sane is that?

“He stated in this post to Wikipedia [THAT BEGS THE QUESTION, WHY WAS THE STALKER FUCKING WITH WIKIPEDIA? HOW LEGIT IS THAT?!] that his book Battle Neverending’s 3 thousand copies sold out in one year which is a total lie. He printed them in 1998 and was still selling them as recent as 2006.”

    WRONG:
    a) The first printing of Battle Neverending, in October of 1998, was 500 copies — they all sold by late 1999.
    b) From 1999 to 2005, NOTHING.
    c) The second printing of Battle Neverending, in April of 2005, was 1,000 copies — those all sold by late 2005.
    d) The third printing of Battle Neverending, in December of 2005, was 2,000 copies — those all sold by late 2007.

Note how the stalker CONviently omitted that, from 1999 to 2005, there wereN’T any copies of Battle Neverending. This is what’s meant by THE WHOLE STORY; THE REST OF THE STORY.

NOW, the rain (it rains a LOT in Seattle) kept me from selling copies every-single-day. So if one were to take each day I DID work — and consecutively add all those days together — statistically speaking, I sold an average of a few copies per day or 3,000 per year.

Again, all this can be confirmed if anyone (aside from this psychotic, who I am NOT obligated to impress under any circumstances) is interested.

    A.D. Sales‏
    From: William P. Meyers (bill@iiipublishing.com)
    Sent: Mon 6/16/08 11:13 PM

When I had been running III Publishing, a small press, for a few years a remarkable manuscript was sent to me. It was titled A.D. and was submitted by Saab Lofton. The writing was strong, the plot was interesting, and conceptually it was brilliant. I was struggling to sell my titles at the time, this was when Barnes & Noble and Borders were wiping out many of the independent bookstores that sold my books, but I took a chance on A.D.
I had 2000 copies printed. A.D. sold remarkably well, quickly becoming my 2nd best-selling title. It sold about 1000 copies the first year and in the next few years all the copies were sold. There was continuing demand for the book, but around then my distributor went bankrupt and I decided to stop publishing. A.D. should have been reprinted. More than that, it should have been picked up by a larger publisher with stronger sales channels.
A.D. was Saab Lofton’s first novel. I read the manuscript of his second novel, and it too should have been published by a major publisher. Saab Lofton’s voice deserves to be heard. What he says may not please everyone, but that is always the case with great writers.

  39. Exposing Deception June 21st, 2008 4:25 pm

Saab Lofton’s racist statements of the white spoiled privileged!

Lord knows how far those whites are willing to go to maintain today’s status quo.
Let’s face it, all too many whites view the 21st century as their last stand
If the Democrats would stop watering down their beliefs to appeal to all the dumb white guys out there, they’d win
I mean whites have to collectively overcome their economic masochism
The comfort of fat, spoiled and ignorant Americans
This means there will NEVER be a point in which whites will be let off the hook
    It’s been my experience that hippies are usually spoiled white kids rebelling against their uptight parents;

I wish I was bigger! Cindy Sheehan quit and yet she’s an icon. I’ve been at this for over two decades and yet I’m still obscure! Goes to show white women are more powerful than black men
their subliminal belief in the supposed necessity of white dominance alone will keep them from funding my work.
and since the comfort level of a white American woman is sacrosanct
Ensuring that some spoiled yuppie will never know a moment of discomfort? Again, the exhalting of white America’s comfort level …

    White fear is profitable
there’s still this “profitable” fear all too many whites have
Unfortunately, there’s talk of casting some white guy as Captain Marvel
First, seeing as how white left-wingers are more statistically likely to be related to a Republican than any other demographic

Mainly because the white left is afraid for the lives of their ig-nant kinfolk:

white leftists are more concerned with the fate of their right-wing relatives
this is about something all too many whites have yet to deal with. This expectation for blacks to be eternally masochistic workaholics
And then white people — 90 percent of the guns in this country are bought out in the white suburbs where you don’t need them because there’s virtually no crime
can be as difficult as explaining that a white woman can marry a black man without the world coming to an end
White liberals and New Age hippies who’re related to people like O’Reilly claim I’m in danger of being consumed with anger; that if I don’t “tone it down
FOX has had left-wingers (Alan Colmes don’t count — he makes Clark Kent seem macho
I guess it was just too much for white comic fans to have their white hero fall from grace and take responsibility for what he did
Most white people are uncomfortable with people of color gaining power
the concept of a superhero of color is an uneasy thought to most white Americans
Given the amount of resistance there’s been to John Stewart taking Hal Jordan’s place, is it any wonder why white supremacists have such a problem with their distant descendants looking like Halle Berry ..?
The only reason the Religious Right demonizes the erasure of global borders is because whites are a minority worldwide
If any of the spoiled in the world are the least bit incredulous over why is it Chavez would want or even need more power in order to better help the poor,
I also would tell the spoiled to go slumming
blacks have to perform a task twice as well as whites just to get by
First World whites wallow in gratuitous cynicism like a pig in slop
I’ve always suspected that the reason why whites are so corny and will laugh at the most incipid shit is because their lives are so boring
WHO’S SO BORED AND SPOILED IN LIFE
what exactly gives white boys the right to talk this much trash?
Not all of us has white skin privilege,
How spoiled would one have to be to bother to point this out
What “arrogant, obnoxious attitude”?! You people ARE in fact spoiled!
When whites protest, it’s to be hip and fashionable …
“Dan” sounds like yet another one of the spoiled
you’ve already proved yourself to be spoiled by viewing me in such a simplistic manner
That’s petty and that’s spoiled, period
not only does it let the rich/powerful off the hook big time, but it is SPOILED as a motherfucker
something the spoiled can’t grasp because, well, they’re spoiled
Again the difference between someone who’s spoiled enough not to have to worry about the bills every month
who exactly am I offending? A bunch of spoiled whites who have the luxury to sit by a computer in the First World and be SOOO fucking concerned about my ego
Picking on a black man who’s fighting for his very survival all because YOUR spoiled ass was bored!
whether or not I’m offending the spoiled and privileged. And pointing out how spoiled and privileged all too many whites are is factual, it’s NOT encouraging bad blood–though I’m sure spoiled whites would love for folks to think it is
but would get a white boy’s ass whupt if he said it
That goes for anyone else in this country of all countries who’s white and pretty and at least lower middle class. GET OVER IT
I tried to explain to the punks how their white-skin privilege got their black friend in trouble

One of my favorite examples of how blind whites can be to their societal privilege
And being white, the odds are you’re more statistically likely to be friends with/related to some FOX News Republican than I am
thus wasting all the more time/energy which could be directed at the enemy as someone SPOILED would do
Only someone SPOILED by white privilege would find a future devoid of war and poverty to be “pansy
Only someone already spoiled and inconsiderate would consider making the world a better place
    existence of white privilege/dominance
Sheehan quit! She’s not taking a break, she’s quitting! How dare Sheehan quit with all the privilege she has to spare?
Sheehan’s claim to fame is that her son was a SOLDIER in IRAQ–and since most of the left are whites with right-wing relatives, Casey’s military record was used to appeal to said relatives (instead of simply telling said relatives how wrong they were
but that still doesn’t change the fact that she’s famous solely because white leftists figured her son’s military background would impress their right-wing relatives …

    THE JOKES GETTING OLD!

God this has to be the funniest shit Saab has said in like a day or so! Saab was requesting over the internet to have someone drive him to Portland and this was his excuse for never having learned how to drive.

“I’ve never learned to drive a car (cartooning took that much of my time over the years)”

What cartooning would that be? Three zerox sheets stapled together called Dufus the Rat!
Dude when the story was first told it was funny but now the jokes grown stale. Please list all the comics you have drawn to date and let us know how we the people might purchase them? As far as driving a car goes I’m sure it was just a matter of choice so you would have another excuse not to be responsible for yourself!

Hey everyone I just opened my first blog ever!

Please check it out, I know all will like the format and design. Hoping to receive some great comments from all of you.

    Thanks Shazzam

That’s a quote from publisher Alonzo Washington, not me (goes to show how little you care about accuracy). So, are you going to stalk him too?

Fucking nutcase — using the names of my fictional characters as pseudonyms is a clear sign of psychotic obsession … Well, I STILL AIN’T had a single motherfucker ask me whether the anonymous coward online was correct about anything concerning my career. If I were you I would just ignore him - he will get bored eventually. Trolls are always attacking writers like this … I’m am sorry that you’ve been attacked by this troll.

The anonymous stalker who posted that fake Wikipedia page falsely depicting me as a statirical/stereotypical gay prostitute (unless you “think” all blacks look alike, that’s clearly not me in that photo) is so obsessed with me he has been using the names of my fictional characters as pseudonyms.
It is ironic, however, that the stalker would use Silverbullet in this particular case, because Silverbullet is the world’s first black lesbian superheroine and is an indicator of how I stand in solidarity with the gay/lesbian/transgender community …

    http://www.lasvegascitylife.com/articles/2004/04/28/opinion/fear_no_evil/fearnoevil.txt

… again, NO one has come foward asking if ANYthing the stalker ever alleged actually exists or occurred. This is clearly an act of desperation …
