June 15 #ImpeachTrump National Day of Action: Act to Defend Democracy, Over 75+ Events Planned Across the Country

WASHINGTON - As calls for impeachment grow following Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s public statement on May 29, MoveOn and By the People have announced June 15 as a National Day of Action 一 a series of nationwide public actions calling for an impeachment inquiry against Donald Trump. Events are set to take place in more than 100 cities and towns, including New York, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Orlando, Boston, and Detroit.

Day of Action events will take numerous forms to demonstrate public outrage at Trump and pressure on Congress to act, including impeachment teach-ins, where organizers will give public readings of impeachment calls from Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), Rep. Al Green (D-CA), and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), and a discussion of the range of abuses and crimes against our communities and Constitution that warrant an immediate impeachment inquiry. Tlaib and Green are co-sponsors of a House resolution to begin an impeachment inquiry. Rep. Tlaib will be speaking at the Detroit event, and other member of Congress are expected at events around the country.

The events will also highlight the 10 million signatures delivered to Tlaib on May 9 from Americans calling on Congress to commence impeachment proceedings 一 the largest online petition in U.S. history. Members of Congress of both parties who have stepped forward to call for impeachment will be welcome to attend. Participants will be encouraged to take public action by calling their representatives in Congress and urging them to support an impeachment inquiry. A growing coalition of partners have signed on including Indivisible, Mainers for Accountable Leadership, Credo, Free Speech for the People, Need to Impeach, Liberty Tree, Women’s March, March for Truth, Action Together Network, Saratoga Progressive Action, Stand Up America, Blue Future, Daily Kos, Alameda4Impeachment, Courage Campaign, Progressive Democrats of America, Democracy for America, and Center for Popular Democracy Action.

“Donald Trump has broken the law, violated the constitution, and put the safety and future of the American people at risk. But by now, it is clear that Congress won’t act unless we demand it. We need to take to the streets in every neighborhood in America to defend democracy,” said Alexandra Flores-Quilty, spokesperson with By the People. “Join us on June 15 across the country - from the biggest cities to the smallest towns - as we make the urgent call for Congress to act and begin an impeachment inquiry now.”

The percentage of Americans in favor of impeachment has steadily risen in response to the release of the Mueller report and Mueller’s subsequent statement. A recent Reuters poll found that 45 percent of Americans currently support impeachment, compared to 42 percent opposed, and significantly higher than polling was when Congress began impeachment inquiries into Richard Nixon.
