350 Action Responds to Nebraska Decision to Uphold KXL Pipeline Route, Calls on Presidential Candidates To Take #NoKXL Pledge

Stands With Activists, Tribes, and Landowners Who Pledge to Keep Fighting

WASHINGTON

Today the Nebraska Supreme Court denied landowners' appeals and ruled in favor of the Public Service Commission (PSC) decision to approve an in-state route for the Keystone XL pipeline through Nebraska. The ruling goes against the work of thousands of grassroots activists, Indigenous peoples, and farmers who have demanded a stop to the pipeline, highlighting the many ways the project damages their communities, land, water, and resources.

350 Action Director Tamara Toles O'Laughlin said, "This decision by the Nebraska Supreme Court to green light Keystone XL is unjust. It stands in complete contradiction to the evidence presented by communities who have made clear time and time again the damage this will cause to their lives. The Public Service Commission did not care to gather relevant evidence from with Tribes or other landowners on the revised route, nor did they do a proper assessment of the long lasting and devastating impacts on climate, water, land, and human health implications. This is a stunning dereliction from a body whose role is to assess environmental impact of projects, and we will continue to fight this decision.

"Given this decision, it is imperative that all Presidential Candidates, especially those who have explicit climate action plans, take a stand against this unjust decision and stand with communities who have been fighting the Keystone Pipeline for a decade. We call on all Presidential candidates to take the #NoKXL Pledge immediately and demonstrate that they have the courage to stand with people over polluters and greedy oil executives.

"We are grateful to the Tribes and other landowners who continue their unwavering efforts against TC Energy and Keystone XL. We remain steadfast in our commitment to stopping Keystone XL in solidarity with all others fighting for climate justice. We will continue to fight Keystone XL with communities using every available means."
