There are no Benefits to Trump’s “Great Healthcare Plan”

Today, President Donald Trump unveiled a healthcare plan which his administration claims will lower drug costs and insurance premiums.

Public Citizen Health Care Policy Advocate Eagan Kemp issued the following statement:

"Trump's Great Healthcare Plan is impressive only in the fact that it isn't great, wouldn't substantively improve healthcare, and isn't even detailed enough to be considered a plan.

“Trump and his cronies have had more than a decade to come up with something beyond 'concepts of a plan' but have failed time and time again. The American people are suffering under a broken health care system that has been made worse by Trump and his MAGA allies.

“By passing tax cuts for billionaires and paying for them through health care cuts for tens of millions of people, Trump and Republicans showed their disdain for everyday Americans. In the short run, the Senate must follow the lead of the House and pass a clean three-year extension of the ACA subsidies.

“In the longer term, we must finally pass Medicare for All, an actually great healthcare plan, to finally guarantee everyone in the U.S. can get the care they need throughout their lives without financial barriers."

Resistance to Atlanta's Cop City Is Rising

A week of action in Atlanta this March showcases widespread opposition to a planned police training center, which would be the largest in the nation. An organizer explains what's at stake.

    Sonali Kolhatkar
    Mar 11, 2023

Atlanta is a city built inside a forest, one that Indigenous Muscogee people call the Weelaunee Forest. In recent years, the Atlanta Police Foundation, a private nonprofit organization, has led an effort to build what would be the nation’s largest police training center on hundreds of acres of that forest land. The move sparked the creation of a broad coalition to protest the project, some opposed to forest destruction and others against police expansion. Together, these organizers are calling on Atlanta’s mayor, Andre Dickens, and the city council to “Stop Cop City.”

Authorities have cracked down on the protests with mass arrests and, in some cases, are charging organizers with domestic terrorism. In January 2023, police raided an area where protesters were camping in the Weelaunee Forest, killing an environmental justice protester named Tortuguita.

'First Step' Toward Justice: Six Baltimore Cops Charged in Freddie Gray Case

State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby said Gray asked for medical attention twice during a ride between the site of his arrest and a police booking center

    Deirdre Fulton
    May 01, 2015

    Update, 3:30pm:

Friday's news that six Baltimore police officers will face criminal charges in the death of Freddie Gray elicited cheers from city residents grateful for some modicum of accountability for police brutality, and mixed reactions from those who said the announcement was only a first step toward justice.

Freddie Gray a Victim of America's Longest War

    Dan Rodricks
    Apr 23, 2015

Owing likely to the diligence of a clerk, the Maryland District Court records on Freddie Gray already have been updated. The disposition of Case No. 5B02287290, in which Gray was charged with attempted distribution of an unspecified illegal drug, appears capitalized and in boldface: ABATED BY DEATH.

Someone made the change Tuesday, just three days after the 25-year-old Gray died at Shock Trauma of injuries sustained during his arrest in West Baltimore a week earlier.
