Starting today, MoveOn Civic Action has launched a new ad campaign taking over the homepages and top banners of the Arizona Daily Star, Portland Press Herald, and the Bangor Daily News websites to inform voters of Senators Martha McSally, Susan Collins, and Mitch McConnell's actions to enrich corporations at the expense of their constituents in the Republican coronavirus economic relief bill. The ads will also take over the homepage of the Lexington Herald Leader beginning on Monday.
Gannett Co. Inc.-owned outlets, the Louisville Courier Journal and the Arizona Republic, declined to run the ads.
The ads will each run for three days and direct constituents to sign a petition calling on their senators to put people first as they continue to work to stem the impact from this pandemic.
The ads carry the messages:
"Mainers are reeling from the impact of coronavirus. So why did Senator Collins vote to prioritize handouts for corporations?"

"Senate Republicans continue to show their true allegiance by prioritizing funding for and policies from big corporations instead of looking out for the needs of their constituents," said Mohammad Khan, Campaign Director with MoveOn Civic Action. "Senate Republicans put forward and fought for a plan to give no-strings-attached taxpayer funds to corporations, at the discretion of Secretary Mnuchin, instead of prioritizing funding for healthcare infrastructure, housing assistance, student loan relief, and other policies that would help people struggling with the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic. MoveOn members donated to fund these ads to make sure that their communities know what their elected officials are doing, and take action together to ensure that they put people first in future efforts.
"It's upsetting that outlets owned by Gannett Co. Inc. refused to run these ads and inform the public about this consequential vote. This form of censorship hinders constituents' ability to learn about their senators' records, take action, and voice their concerns."
