WASHINGTON

In response to comments released today by the Environmental Protection Agency regarding the State Department's Final Supplementary Environmental Impact Statement on the Keystone XL pipeline, Stephen Kretzmann, Executive Director of Oil Change International, released the following statement:

"The EPA's comments point to the fact that at current oil prices the pipeline would certainly trigger additional production in the tar sands, and thus significant additional emissions. Thus Keystone XL clearly fails the President's climate test set out at Georgetown University. Keystone XL is not in the national interest and we look forward to the President's final rejection of this dirty tar sands pipeline."

For more information on the climate implications of the low-oil price scenario for the Keystone XL pipeline, highlighted by the EPA, see this memo released by Oil Change International and partners in December 2014.

Oil Change International is a research, communications, and advocacy organization focused on exposing the true costs of fossil fuels and facilitating the ongoing transition to clean energy.
