Commenting on today's visit to the White House by Egypt's President, Abdelfattah al Sisi, Maya Foa - a director at Reprieve - said:

"As President Sisi visits the White House, his government is overseeing a campaign of repression that flies in the face of American values. Thousands of people - including protestors, journalists, bloggers and others - languish in horrific prison conditions, with many being tortured. Hundreds still face the death penalty in unfair mass trials that make a mockery of due process. Among them are people who were arrested as children, like Irish citizen Ibrahim Halawa. President Trump must urge Sisi to end these appalling abuses, and release Ibrahim and the many like him."

Reprieve is a UK-based human rights organization that uses the law to enforce the human rights of prisoners, from death row to Guantanamo Bay.
