Statement of The Very Reverend Katherine H. Ragsdale, Interim President & CEO of the National Abortion Federation

Statement of The Very Reverend Katherine H. Ragsdale, Interim President & CEO of the National Abortion Federation (NAF):

The Senate Judiciary Committee members who voted to advance Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation today sent a clear message to Americans: overruling Roe v. Wade trumps everything.

But there is more at stake than just Roe. The Supreme Court is the final defense against dangerous and unconstitutional attacks on women's equal protection and basic rights and freedoms.

WASHINGTON

Statement of The Very Reverend Katherine H. Ragsdale, Interim President & CEO of the National Abortion Federation (NAF):

The Senate Judiciary Committee members who voted to advance Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation today sent a clear message to Americans: overruling Roe v. Wade trumps everything.

But there is more at stake than just Roe. The Supreme Court is the final defense against dangerous and unconstitutional attacks on women's equal protection and basic rights and freedoms.

Brett Kavanaugh issued a decision that would have forced a young detained immigrant to further delay her abortion for multiple more weeks-- he should be willing to do the same for his Supreme Court nomination. Judge Kavanaugh cannot be trusted and his confirmation should not continue.

The National Abortion Federation (NAF) is the professional association of abortion providers. Our members include individuals, private and non-profit clinics, Planned Parenthood affiliates, women's health centers, physicians' offices, and hospitals who together care for approximately half the women who choose abortion in the U.S. and Canada each year. Our members also include public hospitals and both public and private clinics in Mexico City and private clinics in Colombia.
