Kucinich to Attend State Rally for Workers' Rights

“Organized Labor is an Awakening Giant”

WASHINGTON

Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH), will today attend a rally in Columbus, Ohio in support of workers' rights and in solidarity with protestors across the country.

"We will not stand by and passively witness the imposition of an agenda that heavily favors Wall Street and special interests at the direct and profound expense of workers, their families and the middle class. Many states are facing budget crises that must be addressed. But this is not about balancing budgets. This is about breaking agreements that were negotiated in good faith with hard-working Ohioans and Americans, while keeping agreements with moneyed interests intact. In seeking to end the right of workers to engage in collective bargaining, and the right to demand fair wages and benefits, Republican governors are overreaching and the middle class is defending itself.

"Workers are fighting fight back in Ohio, Wisconsin, Washington, Indiana, Illinois and across the nation. A great human wave is standing up for economic justice, for an America that works for all Americans, not just a select few wealthy CEOs. I stand in strong solidarity with public workers across the country as they stand up and fight for their right to organize" said Kucinich.

Kucinich, himself from a working-class background, had been scheduled to attend events in his district in Cleveland, Ohio during a visit by President Obama.

"I applaud the President for coming to Northeast Ohio to hear our concerns and highlight our successes. I wish I could be there to welcome him to my district, but my fellow Ohioans are facing a monumental and historic struggle. I will be proud to stand with them as we march for justice, for economic rights and for the dignity of workers," said Kucinich.

Dennis Kucinich is an American politician. A U.S. Representative from Ohio from 1997 to 2013, he was also a candidate for the Democratic nomination for president of the United States in 2004 and 2008.
