At Week-Long White House Protest, Americans to Demand Biden Halt Fossil Fuel Projects

“People Vs. Fossil Fuels” Activists and Impacted Community Leaders to Risk Arrest Each Morning Next Week

WASHINGTON

Next week, hundreds of climate and clean energy activists, led by individuals directly impacted by the harms and hazards of dirty energy projects across the country, will converge on the White House and risk arrest in order to send a clear message to President Biden: Halt all new fossil fuel development in America. The morning actions, running from Monday to Friday, will have a slightly different theme each day, all centered around the demand for urgent, bold climate action from the administration.

While Congressional Democrats continue to negotiate over infrastructure spending and budget proposals, including various inadequate programs billed as climate solutions, there is much that the Biden administration could do on its own to begin tackling the fossil fuel industry in a serious way.

Available for Interviews: Emily Wurth, Organizing Director, Food & Water Watch

On Thursday the action will be themed around "Real Solutions, Not False Promises." Food & Water Watch Organizing Director Emily Wurth will join other advocacy leaders, renowned scientists and front-line community leaders to risk arrest while highlighting the many "false solutions" being pushed by the fossil fuel industry and its political backers that would continue to prop up and encourage new oil and gas development. Faulty technologies and schemes like fracking, carbon capture, carbon pricing and fossil fuel-sourced hydrogen will be focused on.

With its Biden Climate Watch tool, Food & Water Watch has been meticulously tracking the many pro-fossil fuels statements and decisions made since the start of the administration. For example, during his campaign, Biden repeatedly pledged to halt new oil and gas drilling and fracking on public lands. Yet since taking office, the administration has approved thousands of new drilling permits.

Food & Water Watch mobilizes regular people to build political power to move bold and uncompromised solutions to the most pressing food, water, and climate problems of our time. We work to protect people's health, communities, and democracy from the growing destructive power of the most powerful economic interests.
