Demand Progress Statement on the Passage of Antitrust Reform Bill Out of Senate Judiciary Committee

WASHINGTON -

Today, S 2992, a bill cosponsored by a broad swath of the Senate Judiciary Committee, passed Committee markup by a vote of 16-6. The bill is a significant step forward for antitrust reform and would prohibit Big Tech companies from self-preferencing their own products.

In response to the bill moving out of the Senate Judiciary Committee, Ginger Quintero-McCall, Legal Director at Demand Progress issued the following statement:

“We knew we would win, but this was an even stronger vote than we expected - and notably bodes well about the ability to overcome a filibuster on the floor. It will also provide momentum as the debate shifts back to the House."

This comes less than one week after Rep. Ken Buck (R-Colorado) garnered 56 signatures on his discharge petition and first-ever House Freedom Caucus position on a Big Tech bill in support of his State Antitrust Enforcement Venue Act (HR 3460), a clear sign of the bipartisan momentum behind passing antitrust reform.
