Supreme Court Blocks Power Plant Document Release

"The Supreme Court just dealt a severe blow to government transparency and accountability, as well as the Endangered Species Act," said Brett Hartl, government affairs director at the Center for Biological Diversity. "This decision will make it easier for political appointees to meddle secretly in scientific decisions, gut protections for our air and water, and push more of our wildlife toward extinction. Now more than ever, Congress must step in and end the abuse of the deliberative process privilege or we'll have an unaccountable executive branch."

WASHINGTON

"The Supreme Court just dealt a severe blow to government transparency and accountability, as well as the Endangered Species Act," said Brett Hartl, government affairs director at the Center for Biological Diversity. "This decision will make it easier for political appointees to meddle secretly in scientific decisions, gut protections for our air and water, and push more of our wildlife toward extinction. Now more than ever, Congress must step in and end the abuse of the deliberative process privilege or we'll have an unaccountable executive branch."

At the Center for Biological Diversity, we believe that the welfare of human beings is deeply linked to nature — to the existence in our world of a vast diversity of wild animals and plants. Because diversity has intrinsic value, and because its loss impoverishes society, we work to secure a future for all species, great and small, hovering on the brink of extinction. We do so through science, law and creative media, with a focus on protecting the lands, waters and climate that species need to survive.
