Mijente Response to SCOTUS Ruling Upholding DACA Program

In light of today's Supreme Court ruling that the Trump Administration cannot continue with its plans to shut down the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, Mijente issued the following response via Tania Unzueta, political director and former DACA recipient and undocumented organizer.

WASHINGTON

In light of today's Supreme Court ruling that the Trump Administration cannot continue with its plans to shut down the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, Mijente issued the following response via Tania Unzueta, political director and former DACA recipient and undocumented organizer.

"Today's ruling is a clear organizing win, reinforced by the highest court in the country. This victory is rooted in a long history of undocumented youth organizing and pushing the limits of what is possible. At every turn, undocumented young people organized to fight to end their deportations, choosing to stand together to build the power necessary to take on the ICE deportation machinery and the reluctance of politicians to address the conditions facing the community. While we celebrate this moment as a victory, our history teaches us that organizing is central to this win, and that we are not free until all of us are free. Thus, we will continue to build power to fight to defund the police and abolish ICE, and to get Trump out of the White House in November."

Mijente is committed to fighting with and supporting those organizing to abolish ICE, defund the police, and organizing to build power with undocumented community members.

Mijente's members include Latinx people who are immigrant and U.S-born, including undocumented young people who are DACA recipients and who are directly impacted by today's Supreme Court decision.
