People's Watch Pressure Campaign Escalates, Demands Democrats Hold the Line on Passing a Reconciliation Package Before BIF

Throughout the week, People's Watch, a coalition of progressive groups have been agitating politicians to deliver on President Biden's Build Back Better agenda - demanding that Democrats hold the line at $3.5T reconciliation passing prior to the BIF.

People's Watch's mobilization began on Monday, with an opening People's Watch rally at the Capitol, where they were joined by Reps. Mondaire Jones, Jamaal Bowman, Ayanna Pressley, Rashida Tlaib, and Ro Khanna. This coincided with partner environmental organizations organizing a weeklong flotilla near Senator Joe Manchin's boathouse.

On Tuesday, over 50 progressive activists and organizations including Sunrise Movement and United We Dream showed up at her fundraiser in DC. Organizers from Sunrise Movement bird dogged Pelosi, after she backtracked on her commitment to pass reconciliation first, demanding that she pass the $3.5 trillion reconciliation before the Exxon bill.

Wednesday morning, People's Watch confronted conservative Democrat Rep. Jim Costa at his corporate fundraiser, asking why he won't support a bold infrastructure package that would uplift millions. Later in the evening, progressive activists and organizations, including nearly 50 members of Sunrise Movement, showed up at the Congressional baseball game in DC, demanding that Democrats pass the $3.5 trillion climate and jobs reconciliation package prior to the bipartisan Exxon bill.

Today, People's Watch actions ramped up with a rally on the Capitol with Sunrise Movement, United We Dream, Working Families Party, DSA, Casa, Indivisible and many other organizations - just as Senator Manchin held a press conference a block over. They were joined by Reps Rashida Tlaib, Chuy Garcia, Ayanna Pressley, Jamaal Bowman, Alexandria Ocasia-Cortez, and Cori Bush who doubled down on holding the line on $3.5T reconciliation.

Sunrise Movement is a movement to stop climate change and create millions of good jobs in the process.
