Talk Without Action Is Worthless—350 Canada Statement on the Throne Speech
CANADA - In response to Justin Trudeau's Speech from the Throne, Amara Possian, Canada Campaigns Manager at 350.org, issued this statement:
"It's been 463 days since this government declared a climate emergency and took no action. It's been nearly a year since they promised to plant two billion trees and put none in the ground. While we heard some good words in the Throne Speech, what really matters is action.
Spending tens of billions of dollars on the Trans Mountain pipeline undermines the government's promises to pass UNDRIP and create a million green jobs. In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, we need to be spending every dollar available on a made-in-Canada Green New Deal that meets the scale of the crisis, puts communities first and mends the gaps in our social safety net that Covid-19 has made so apparent.

Talk without action is worthless. That's why today, we're launching a campaign to demand the government defund the Trans Mountain pipeline and invest in a made-in-Canada Green New Deal."

350 is the red line for human beings, the most important number on the planet. The most recent science tells us that unless we can reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere to 350 parts per million, we will cause huge and irreversible damage to the earth. But solutions exist. All around the world, a movement is building to take on the climate crisis, to get humanity out of the danger zone and below 350. This movement is massive, it is diverse, and it is visionary. We are activists, scholars, and scientists. We are leaders in our businesses, our churches, our governments, and our schools. We are clean energy advocates, forward-thinking politicians, and fearless revolutionaries. And we are united around the world, driven to make our planet livable for all who come after us.
