Trump Increases Federal Law Enforcement Presence, Deploys National Guard In Nation's Capital

'Their Complicity Is Dangerous': DC Police Chief Slammed for Submitting to Trump's ICE Raids

"The very institution that is supposed to keep district residents safe is now allowing ICE to jeopardize the safety and lives of hardworking immigrants and their families," said one local labor leader.

    Aug 14, 2025

The ACLU and a local branch of one of the nation's largest labor unions were among those who condemned Thursday's order by Washington, DC's police chief authorizing greater cooperation with federal forces sent by President Donald Trump to target and arrest undocumented immigrants in the sanctuary city.

Metropolitan Police Department Chief Pamela Smith issued an executive order directing MPD officers to assist federal forces including Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in sharing information about people in situations including traffic stops. The directive does not apply to people already in MPD custody. The order also allows MPD to provide transportation for federal immigration agencies and people they've detained.

A masked ICE agent arrests a woman

Dem Congresswomen Demand ICE Agents Clearly Identify Themselves Amid Wave of Imposter Assaults

"Your current practices leave women vulnerable to life-altering violence," the lawmakers said. "It's past time to act."

    Aug 11, 2025

Citing "horrifying" incidents in which masked men impersonating U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents kidnap and assault women, more than 30 Democratic congresswoman on Monday demanded that ICE officers clearly identify themselves while conducting enforcement activities.

"All our lives, we are taught to fear masked men in unmarked vehicles. We learn we should run from such men to avoid being kidnapped, sexually assaulted, or killed," 33 members of the Democratic Women's Caucus (DWC) wrote in a letter led by Reps. Judy Chu (D-Calif.), Sylvia Garcia (D-Texas), and Nydia Velásquez (D-N.Y.) to Trump administration officials including Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, acting ICE Director Todd Lyons, and "border czar" Tom Homan.

'What Could Possibly Go Wrong?': Trump's ICE Is Now Recruiting Teenagers

"ICE opening up recruiting to teenagers because they can't find enough adults willing to be their racist storm troopers is some real dystopian shit," said one critic.

"We're taking father/son bonding to a whole new level."

That's how the U.S. Department of Homeland Security on Wednesday told social media users that it is lifting age limits for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) applicants—evidence, critics said, of the Trump administration's desperation to fill the ranks of federal agencies tasked with carrying out its cruel and illegal anti-immigrant policies.

New York Times Reveals 'More Targeted Version' of Trump Family Separation Policy

"The family separation policies of the first Trump administration were disastrous, and their resurgence cannot be tolerated," said one critic.

U.S. immigration authorities are once again separating children from their undocumented parents in "what appears to be a more targeted version of one of the most explosive policies" of President Donald Trump's first term, The New York Times revealed on Tuesday.

The Times "uncovered at least nine cases in which parents have been separated from their children after they refused to comply with deportation orders, according to internal government documents, case files, and interviews," wrote exposé author Hamed Aleaziz.

12 House Democrats Sue Trump for Illegally Blocking ICE Oversight

A dozen congressional Democrats who have recently been barred from conducting oversight at federal immigration detention facilities said the Trump administration is "clearly violating the law" with a new policy limiting their ability to visit facilities, as they filed a lawsuit against top immigration officials on Wednesday.

Rep. Joe Neguse (D-Colo.) led lawmakers in filing the lawsuit a week after he and Reps. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) and Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) were turned away from an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) field office in Chantilly, Virginia. They had learned that the office was "holding, and routinely held" undocumented immigrants.

House Progressives Demand Answers From Noem on Masked ICE Agents

"These state-sanctioned fear tactics are opening the door for vulnerable communities to be abused and must not become the norm," said Rep. Summer Lee.

    Jul 25, 2025

Pressing the Trump administration to explain its rationale for allowing federal agents to don masks and drive unmarked vehicles when carrying out immigration raids and arrests, two Democratic members of Congress on Friday pointed to numerous times in recent months when authorities working under President Donald Trump have eroded "public trust and fundamental constitutional rights" by concealing their identities.

"In Los Angeles, agents were photographed in June 2025 wearing face covers during residential raids," wrote Reps. Robert Garcia (D-Calif.) and Summer Lee (D-Pa.) in a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem. "In Chicago, witnesses reported masked agents detaining individuals without identification. Similarly, in New York City, then-mayoral candidate Brad Lander was arrested by masked federal agents."

Farmworker in Critical Condition After Fall From Greenhouse During California ICE Raid

Following the publication of this piece, the Ventura County Medical Center released a statement saying that he was alive and in critical condition. The piece has been updated to reflect this new information.]

A Mexican farmworker who reportedly fell from a greenhouse while trying to hide during a Trump administration raid on a Southern California farm is in critical condition, according to the Ventura County Medical Center. DHS Official Admits Agency Used Secretive Pro-Israel Group's Blacklist to Target Foreign Students

"The U.S. government is laundering repression through a private blacklist," said one pro-Palestinian news outlet.

    Jul 10, 2025

Confirming what students detained by the Trump administration have suspected for months, a senior homeland security official on Wednesday admitted for the first time that his agency had used a website run by a secretive pro-Israel group that compiles "blacklists" of pro-Palestinian students as it worked to carry out President Donald Trump's policy of arresting international students for their protest activities earlier this year.

In a courtroom in Massachusetts during a hearing on a Harvard University faculty group's lawsuit over Trump's attempts to deport pro-Palestinian students, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) official Peter Hatch testified under oath that a task force he formed in March scoured a list compiled by Canary Mission, an operation linked to Israel's intelligence agencies, to compile reports on the students on the list.

'A Form of Torture': Detainees Allege Mistreatment at 'Alligator Alcatraz'

"We're human beings; we're not dogs," said one detainee. "We're like rats in an experiment."

    Brett Wilkins

Detainees at the "Alligator Alcatraz" concentration camp in the Florida Everglades say they are enduring inhumane conditions, including inadequate and maggot-infested food, inability to bathe, flooding, and denial of religious practice, CBS News Miami reported Tuesday.

Officially known as Krome Detention Center, the 5,000-bed Department of Homeland Security (DHS) immigration detention facility located on the grounds of a rarely used municipal airport approximately 20 miles west of Miami last week began receiving people arrested during the Trump administration's mass deportation campaign. While U.S. President Donald Trump and other proponents of the prison have sadistically joked about alligators eating escaping prisoners, the biggest dangers faced by detainees are found inside the facility's walls.

Stateless Palestinian Woman Details 'Very Traumatizing' Abuse Suffered in ICE Detention

Trump administration immigration officials reportedly dismissed Ward Sakeik's ordeal as a "sob story."

    Brett Wilkins
    Jul 06, 2025

A newlywed Palestinian woman from Texas released from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention earlier this week says she was shackled for long periods, denied food and water, and subjected to other human rights abuses during nearly five months in ICE custody—all because she is a stateless person.

Ward Sakeik, 22, was born in Saudi Arabia to Palestinian parents from Gaza. Because Saudi Arabia does not grant birthright citizenship to the children of foreign nationals, Sakeik was officially stateless when her family legally emigrated to the United States when she was 8 years old.
