Edisto Island: A Historical Wonder of Nature On the Ecological Edge
On the week including the Fourth of July our family has gathered on Edisto Island and its Beach on the South Carolina coast for the past 30 years. Edisto Beach is a fragile barrier island on the Atlantic Ocean at the mouth of the Edisto River estuary between the ocean and Edisto Island, a much larger land mass in the lush and verdant Low Country of South Carolina some 50 miles south of Charleston. The drive across the island to the beach is enchanting in its natural beauty.

Justice, Victory and Opportunity in Iraq: Another Woman and Child Are Killed With Zarqawi
Commenting on the death of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, President Bush said our troops have "delivered justice" to the "operational commander of the terrorist movement in Iraq". Bush called Zarqawi's death from the blasts of two 500 pound bombs that also killed a woman and child, "... a victory in the global war on terror", and "an opportunity for Iraq's new government to turn the tide of this struggle". According to Bush-speak, the incidental killing of a woman and child helps us bring justice, victory and opportunity in Iraq.

Did Bush's "Bring it On" Bravado Bring On the Haditha Massacre: Iraq's My Lai?
In a rather subdued effort to rally support for their war of choice as questions arise about their continued tenures in office, a somewhat contrite and stammering President George W. Bush and his war weary, but ever slick talking side-kick, Prime Minister Tony Blair held a joint White House press conference Thursday evening. Due to the increasingly virulent insurgency that has turned their Iraq War game into a costly debacle, their once cocky cheer-leadership is now critically challenged by a credibility crunch with the voters of the U.S.

Our Presidential Prophet of God and Great Decider
Many disastrous conflicts in human history were led by men who spoke as if they were directed by God to lead the slaughter. President Bush asserts that "I trust God speaks through me and without that, I couldn't do my job." His sincere belief that the human carnage and destruction resulting from his war of choice against Iraq is somehow the will of God should not be a surprise to Americans of the Christian and Jewish traditions.

Families and Politics
We are all part of the same family, if you go far enough back. Though exemplified by the biblical Adam and Eve, it is sometimes difficult for our immediate, nuclear families to cope with such eco- kinship. We have trouble acknowledging our greater responsibility to those who share our DNA and are...

Total Victory
''We're never going to back down, we're never going to give in, we'll never accept anything less than total victory,'' was President Bush's message to U.S. troops in Iraq from the White House in a video conference produced this week for the media. Before Bush made his appearance for the cameras, the troops were rehearsed by Allison Barber, a Deputy Assistant Defense Secretary. Paul Rieckhoff, an Iraq war veteran and director of an advocacy group for U.S.
