America's Eggshell Nukes
The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission has made it clear that America's 104 licensed atomic power reactors are not accidents waiting to happen. They are accidents in progress. And proposals to build a "new generation" of reactors are not mere scams. They comprise a predictable plan for permanent national bankruptcy.

Vermont Votes No Nukes
Vermont has elected a governor pledged to make the state truly green by shutting its decrepit, leaking nuclear plant. And the town closest to that reactor has voted to take it by eminent domain if necessary, a step unprecedented in world history. In reaction, the nuke's owner (Entergy) has turned tail and put the plant up for sale. (So far, no bidders).

Hey Tea Party-Republicans: The Founders Are Not Your Guys
This is a Greco-Roman nation, gathered in a Hodenosaunee longhouse. As they wrap themselves in the Constitution they mean to shred, that is the self-evident Truth the Tea/GOP Party ultimately cannot face. Our legal godfathers---the ones Glenn Beck loves to conjure---were Deistic liberal humanists whose core beliefs he hates. They dumped that tea because they despised the corporation that owned it and the idea of empire it (and today's corporate-military right) stood for.

Another Feeble-Headed Nuke Drops Dead
As the "reactor renaissance" desperately demands new billions from a lame duck Congress, one of its shining stars has dropped dead. Other much-hyped "new generation" plans may soon die with it. For years "expert" reactor backers have touted the "Pebble Bed" design as an "inherently safe" alternative to traditional domed light water models. Now its South African developers say they're done pouring money into it.

Is the "Nuclear Renaissance" Dead Yet?
America's much hyped "reactor renaissance" is facing a quadruple bypass. In actual new construction, proposed projects and overseas sales, soaring costs are killing new nukes. And the old ones are leaking like Dark Age relics teetering on the brink of disaster.

Why Stewart Brand is Wrong on Nukes - and is Losing
Stewart Brand has become a poster boy for a "nuclear renaissance" that has just suffered a quiet but stunning defeat. Despite $645 million spent in lobbying over the past decade, the reactor industry has thus far failed to gouge out major new taxpayer funding for new commercial reactors.

Can "Emergency" New Nuke Loans Be Stopped Despite Cover of War?
Amidst a grassroots uproar over funding for the military, the nuclear power industry has again forced $9 billion in loan guarantees onto an "emergency" war appropriations bill for Afghanistan and Iraq. Citizen opposition helped delay a similar vote scheduled last month. Now green energy advocates are again asked to call Congress immediately .

Corporate Gusher, Public Sun
BP's apocalyptic Gulf gusher has put our ability to survive in serious doubt. We have no reason to believe an end to the crisis is near---or even in sight. Nor can we begin to calculate the damage to our Mother Earth...to her oceans, to the core of her being...and to each of us as individual organisms. Only one thing IS clear: we cannot ultimately survive without a rapid conversion to a Solartopian economy that is totally green-powered. That transformation will be forced by biological imperatives, not money or markets.

Will an "Emergency" Military Vote Tomorrow Fund More Nukes?
As oil continues to gush into the Gulf of Mexico, a shocking vote tomorrow (Thursday, May 27) may rush $9 billion worth of taxpayer guarantees into building three new nuclear power plants---two of them on that already tortured Gulf of Mexico.

BP's Nuke-Powered Liability Cap
As BP destroys our priceless planet , its lawyers gear up to save the company from paying for the damage. The same will happen---only worse---with the next atomic reactor disaster. By law, BP may be liable for only $75 million of the harm done by the Deepwater Horizon. Ask yourself why the federal government would adopt legislation that limits the liability of an oil driller for the damage it does to us all.
