Why Stewart Brand is Wrong on Nukes - and is Losing
Stewart Brand has become a poster boy for a "nuclear renaissance" that has just suffered a quiet but stunning defeat. Despite $645 million spent in lobbying over the past decade, the reactor industry has thus far failed to gouge out major new taxpayer funding for new commercial reactors.

Can "Emergency" New Nuke Loans Be Stopped Despite Cover of War?
Amidst a grassroots uproar over funding for the military, the nuclear power industry has again forced $9 billion in loan guarantees onto an "emergency" war appropriations bill for Afghanistan and Iraq. Citizen opposition helped delay a similar vote scheduled last month. Now green energy advocates are again asked to call Congress immediately .

Corporate Gusher, Public Sun
BP's apocalyptic Gulf gusher has put our ability to survive in serious doubt. We have no reason to believe an end to the crisis is near---or even in sight. Nor can we begin to calculate the damage to our Mother Earth...to her oceans, to the core of her being...and to each of us as individual organisms. Only one thing IS clear: we cannot ultimately survive without a rapid conversion to a Solartopian economy that is totally green-powered. That transformation will be forced by biological imperatives, not money or markets.

Will an "Emergency" Military Vote Tomorrow Fund More Nukes?
As oil continues to gush into the Gulf of Mexico, a shocking vote tomorrow (Thursday, May 27) may rush $9 billion worth of taxpayer guarantees into building three new nuclear power plants---two of them on that already tortured Gulf of Mexico.

BP's Nuke-Powered Liability Cap
As BP destroys our priceless planet , its lawyers gear up to save the company from paying for the damage. The same will happen---only worse---with the next atomic reactor disaster. By law, BP may be liable for only $75 million of the harm done by the Deepwater Horizon. Ask yourself why the federal government would adopt legislation that limits the liability of an oil driller for the damage it does to us all.

As We Die for BP, Our Military Rots in the Wrong Gulf
As you read this, the life of our bodies, nation and planet is being blown out a corporate hole in the Gulf of Mexico and into a Dead Zone of no return. The apocalyptic gusher of oily poison pouring into the waters that give us life can only be viewed--felt--by each and every one of us as an on-going death by a thousand cuts with no end in sight. Yet our government--allegedly the embodiment of our collective will to survive--has done nothing of significance to fight this mass murder.

The Triple Curse of the Corporate Climate Bill
Legend says curses come in threes. Let's pray that doesn't happen with the unholy trinity of the Corporate Climate Bill. It demands drilling for oil, digging for coal and big money for new nukes. How such a devil's brew could help save the Earth conjures a corporate cynicism beyond the scope of the human mind and soul. It all now bears a special curse. It was meant for Earth Day. Then it slipped to the April 26 Chernobyl anniversary. But co-sponsor Lindsay Graham (R-SC) pitched a fit over immigration and pulled his support.

Will the Climate Bill Nuke Earth Day?
The Climate Bill is due on Earth Day. By all accounts it will be a nuclear bomb. It will be the ultimate challenge of the global grassroots green movement to transform it into something that can actually save the planet. For the atomic power industry, the bill will cap a decade-long $640-million-plus virtual cleansing of its radioactive image. It will have the Obama Administration and Senators John Kerry (D-MA), Joe Lieberman (I-CT) and Lindsay Graham (R-SC) embracing very substantial taxpayer subsidies for building new nuclear plants.

You Are Now Paying for the Next 3 Mile Island
As radiation poured from 3 Mile Island 31 years ago this weekend, utility executives rested easy. They knew that no matter how many people their errant nuke killed, and no matter how much property it destroyed, they would not be held liable. Today this same class of executives demands untold taxpayer billions to build still more TMIs. No matter how many meltdowns they cause, and how much havoc they visit down on the public, they still believe they're above the law.

Nuclear Industry to Vermont: 'Drop Dead'
The nuclear power industry is sending a clear and forceful message to the citizens of Vermont: "Drop Dead." The greeting applies to Ohio, New York, California and a nation under assault from a "renaissance" so far hyped with more than $640 million in corporate cash. The Vermont attack includes:
