Sex Among the Sacred
An evolving sex scandal involving dozens of Roman Catholic priests and their often young parishioners has the media focusing on sexual predators concealed for decades within religious institutions. Complete with cover-ups by higher-ups, the disturbing stories of sex among the sacred has gained a life of its own in the mainstream media.

A Travesty of Justice
Governor Jim Hodges of South Carolina turned "thumbs down"and allowed the State of South Carolina to kill an innocent man. In doing so he lied about crucial facts to make himself look good to the public as a tough-on-crime candidate for reelection in November. Hodges denied Richard Charles "Ricky" Johnson's application for clemency and he was killed by the State of South Carolina on Friday, May 3, 2002. Despite requests to grant clemency from retired S.C.

Let's Stop the Killing of an Innocent Person
You can help stop the killing of an innocent person. Richard Charles Johnson was convicted on the testimony of a person who later admitted she lied at his trial and is scheduled to be executed by the state of South Carolina on May 3, 2002. Governor Jim Hodges is empowered by the state to grant executive clemency and commute his death sentence.

Latin America's Dilemma: Otto Reich's Propaganda is Reminiscent of the Third Reich
The Bush administration is engaging in damage control for their questionable involvement in the failed 2 day coup against the democratically elected government of President Hugo Chavez of Venezuela. Alarmingly, the ominous Otto Reich is emerging as a key player in the administration's role in the failed coup attempt to replace Chavez with an oligarchy of business, military and wealthy elites.

Stop the Killing Now!
It is time to declare a cease-fire and end the killing in the Middle East. The martial madness is lurching out-of-control and threatens to involve more countries and more innocent people. Jerusalem is a holy city of the great prophets of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam and it is once again being torn apart by an endless, mindless cycle of vengeful killing that has continued in the area for 4,000 years. Millions of people have been died and these three religious faiths have been used as reasons to kill.

War is Wrong
I knew war was terribly wrong when I saw pictures of children like myself desperately attempting to flee the flames of bombed German cities in newspapers and on the newsreels during World War II. As an eight year old, I identified with the children of war-torn Europe and worried and wondered why they were being killed when everyone on the home front was waving flags and hyping the wonderful war effort against the evil axis powers. I was sure that Hitler and the Nazis were evil but I wondered what the dying children had to do with it.

Bush Mimics Reagan and the Corporate Stranglehold on U.S. Media Tightens
Bush rallies America in a perpetual war against "evil ones" and the "axis of evil." Ronald Reagan used the cold war to lambast the "evil empire" of the Soviet Union. Their administrations are strikingly similar not only in their use of adjectives, but also in denouncing Washington and "big government" and pushing for tax cuts for the rich and deregulating business. It is interesting to compare the corporate connections of the Reagan years and the Bush administration.

The Bush Administration's Folly: Arrogance of Arms Abroad and Access to Avarice at Home
The European Union commissioner in charge of international relations attacked U.S. foreign policy under the Bush Administration as having a dangerously "absolutist and simplistic" attitude toward our allies and other members of the global community. Chris Patten, the EU commissioner, who is a former Conservative Party chairman in Britain, also told a London newspaper that it was time for EU governments to speak up and stop the U.S. before it goes into "unilateralist overdrive". In an interview with the Guardian, Mr.

Sheriff Bush Wages War Against Evil To Cover Corporate Corruption of Government
In his State of the Union address, George W. Bush played sheriff to a world bedeviled by evil-doers and outlaw nations. It was a cunning cover for the unfolding saga of consummate corporate corruption of American politics, exemplified by Enron's evil influence in the White House and Congress. The U.S. Chief Executive turned global-sheriff-in-chief, aroused waves of standing ovations from dutiful deputies in a Congress compromised by campaign contributions and cozy connections with Enron and Arthur Andersen.

The Dream of Martin Luther King Distorted Into a Nightmare of Moderation and Militarism
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s words expressing his dream of love, peace, and justice that could transform a suffering world filled with hate, violence, and injustice became awesomely authentic for me as I did research for a talk I made at our King Day at the Dome 2002 Celebration at the South Carolina State House on January 21. Tears welled in my eyes as Dr. King's prophetic phrases seemed to speak truth to power - today as much as or even more than when he expressed them in the 1960's.
