Marc Rosenthal

  • Marc Rosenthal is a retired emergency department nurse who lives in Madison, Wisconsin, but whose life has been shaped by living and working around the world. He has been engaged in international solidarity work and movements opposing war, colonialism, and imperialism for decades. His journey as a water defender began in 1979, organizing with the Black Hills Alliance, an anti-mining environmental project of the American Indian Movement. He was a founding member of the Madison Arcatao Sister City Project, the U.S.-El Salvador Sister Cities Network, the Stop Line 5 Cross Border Organizing Working Group, and the International Solidarity Working Group of 350. He lived in Israel in the early 1970s and since returning to the U.S. has been active in Palestinian solidarity as a Jewish ally, currently with Jewish Voice for Peace. He has five grown children and three grandchildren and carries a deep sense of responsibility to those who came before us and to the generations still to come. That sense of continuity is what grounds him. “The struggle has no beginning or end. It is a river you step into and it becomes your life.”
