The Nineteenth Amendment
The most remarkable things about one significant anniversary yesterday was that it passed unremarked. On August 26, 1920, Secretary of State Bainbridge Colby certified the adoption of the Nineteenth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States. It reads, in full: "The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation."

Drawn-Out Death
When it comes to newspapers, I'm locked into a love-hate relationship. The love part? I flat-out love them. Always have. As a kid in New York, I came from a mixed marriage - Mom read The New York Times and Pop read the Daily News. Between the two, newspapers made the world real to me.

News We Can't Use
On National Public Radio's "All Things Considered" the other evening, I caught a story about President Barack Obama and the news media. The gist of it was that while Obama has promised to run an open and transparent administration, and while he's already loosened the stranglehold that former President George W. Bush put on the Freedom of Information Act, the traditional press was feeling excluded.
