Syrian forces have allegedly shot down a U.S. drone in the country, according to reports from the state-run Syrian Arab News Agency on Tuesday.

"Syrian air defense systems shot down U.S. UAV north of Lattakia Province," SANA said.

The incident is being widely reported as the first such downing of this kind since the U.S. began launching bombings in the country last summer.
