CAIR Says Trump's Call for Imprisonment of Clinton Aide is Attempt to 'Politicize' DOJ

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation's largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today said President Trump's call to jail a former aide of Hillary Clinton is an attempt to politicize the Department of Justice.

In a tweet this morning, Trump called for the imprisonment of former State Department aide Huma Abedin and wrote derisively of the "Deep State Justice Dept." CAIR noted that in a recent interview, Trump said: "I have absolute right to do what I want to do with the Justice Department."

"Calling for the imprisonment of political rivals is a clear attempt by President Trump to further politicize the Department of Justice," said CAIR Government Affairs Director Robert McCaw. "Every American who values the constitutional guarantee of due process should be outraged by the president's statements."

McCaw noted that the president is already facing accusations of multiple instances of obstruction of justice.
