NARAL on GOP Plan to Take Away Healthcare From Millions of America

WASHINGTON - After weeks of negotiating in secret, today Republican senators released their plan to leave millions of Americans uninsured and to take away the health protections that families count on. NARAL Pro-Choice America President Ilyse Hogue issued the following statement in response:

“Republicans have laid their cards on the table, and the hand they want to play is a disaster for women and families. Both the process and the substance of this bill are an abomination. Any senator who thinks our nation will be stronger when tens of millions of Americans lose their health coverage and women lose access to basic medical care should resign.

“Let’s be crystal clear: The Republican proposal is a direct attack on the health and well-being of hundreds of millions of Americans and a savage attack on women’s healthcare in particular. It is just as cruel as the proposal approved by the House. By defunding women’s health centers, denying abortion coverage to Americans who get their insurance through the exchanges or who receive tax subsidies, and slashing healthcare for the families who need it most, it’s clear that the Trump administration and the GOP’s concern with being ‘pro-life’ only reaches as far as the nearest tax cut for millionaires.

“NARAL’s more than 1 million members are raising the alarm about the GOP’s shameful plan to put their extreme ideological agenda before the health of American families.”
