Biden's American Jobs Plan was Already a Compromise, No Climate, No Deal

WASHINGTON

As a bipartisan agreement is reached on infrastructure, Lauren Maunus, Advocacy Director for Sunrise Movement, released the following statement:

"Not since 2009 have Democrats held control of both houses of Congress and the White House. This is a historic, narrow opportunity to combat the climate crisis, and we can't afford to kick the can down the road any further. $2.7 trillion was already the compromise, and the science says we need at least $1 trillion per year over the next decade. When Democrats agree to water it down more, they're condemning Americans to untold devastation.

"We demand no climate, no deal. Any Democrat who votes for this inadequate version of an infrastructure bill that doesn't channel massive investments towards stopping the climate crisis is betraying our generation. We're watching our politicians and we will remember this in 2022 and 2024. And the sad thing is the very people who need a robust jobs and climate package are being stifled by their own representatives. As Senator Sinema types up op-eds in her nice air conditioned DC office and pushes for a weak, climate stripped infrastructure package, Arizona burns and her constituents bear the brunt of the crises she won't address.

"Our leaders must step up. We expect Schumer to pass the boldest budget resolution as soon as possible, go through reconciliation in July, and pass a robust infrastructure package by August recess. There can be no compromise and no excuses to get this done for the American people."

This comes as Sunrise Movement plans to hold a large, escalated action in Washington DC on June 28th and will continue the fight to pass a bold, comprehensive infrastructure package including a fully-funded Civilian Climate Corps throughout the summer.

Sunrise Movement is a movement to stop climate change and create millions of good jobs in the process.
