Patriotic Millionaires Statement on Biden Economic Team, Treasury Secretary Announcement

"The challenges we face can only be overcome through decisive, substantial government action. Now is not the time to be timid or to worry about the deficit, it is time to act boldly."

WASHINGTON

This morning, President-Elect Joe Biden announced the names of key members of his economic team, headlined by his decision to appoint Janet Yellen as Treasury Secretary. In response to this announcement, Morris Pearl, the Chair of the Patriotic Millionaires and a former managing director of BlackRock, Inc., issued the following statement:

"President-Elect Joe Biden's economic team, led by Janet Yellen as Treasury Secretary, appears well-equipped to tackle the immense challenges our country is currently facing. Janet Yellen, Neera Tanden, Cecilia Rouse, Wally Adayemo, Jared Bernstein, and Heather Boushey all have an incredible opportunity in front of them to guide our country's economic policy away from the disastrous last four years and towards a vision of America that prioritizes the wellbeing of everyday people, not just the rich and powerful.
We hope they recognize that the challenges we face can only be overcome through decisive, substantial government action. Now is not the time to be timid or to worry about the deficit, it is time to act boldly. The Patriotic Millionaires congratulate the members of the President-Elect's new economic team for their selection, and look forward to working with them to build an economy that works better for all Americans."

The Patriotic Millionaires is a group of high-net worth Americans who share a profound concern about the destabilizing level of inequality in America. Our work centers on the two things that matter most in a capitalist democracy: power and money. Our goal is to ensure that the country's political economy is structured to meet the needs of regular Americans, rather than just millionaires. We focus on three "first" principles: a highly progressive tax system, a livable minimum wage, and equal political representation for all citizens.
