New Group Launches to Safeguard Elections During Coronavirus Pandemic

‘We Can Vote’ aims to make sure our 2020 elections are safe, secure and successful.

WASHINGTON

Today, a new, nonpartisan coalition called We Can Vote is launching in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The group will work to ensure the 2020 elections remain on track and that eligible voters have the resources needed to cast ballots as election officials face new, unique challenges.

We Can Vote will work with volunteers, civic organizations and businesses to put resources in the hands of election officials and voters, protecting eligible Americans' right to vote under these unusual circumstances. We Can Vote has created a digital resource center that allows voters in all 50 states, D.C., the five U.S. territories, and Americans Abroad to take simple steps to protect the integrity of elections while maintaining access to the polls. It features the latest updates to voting rules, voting news, opportunities for practical and positive actions, success stories, and nonpartisan advocacy.

"Our country held elections during the Civil War, both World Wars and the flu pandemic in 1918," said Jessica Barba Brown, Senior Advisor for We Can Vote. "It's never been more critical for us to come together as a nation and make sure our 2020 elections are secure and accessible for all eligible Americans--and that everyone can exercise their right to vote in a healthy way."

The organization is asking individuals and organizations to take the We Can Vote pledge, which includes promising to vote absentee or by mail where available, to help educate their community, and to volunteer to support local elections. We Can Vote will be announcing more partners and collaborators in the coming days and weeks as people and organizations work together to secure the 2020 election and protect Americans' fundamental right to vote.
