CREDO Statement on William Barr's Senate Judiciary Committee Hearings
WASHINGTON - CREDO Action Co-Director Heidi Hess released the statement below in advance of Attorney General nominee William Barr's testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee:
"William Barr is Brett Kavanaugh all over again: A bigoted nominee hand-picked to give Donald Trump a pass when it comes to the Russia investigation," said CREDO Action Co-Director Heidi Hess. "When it is time to question Barr, every senator on the Senate Judiciary Committee should remember the five undocumented meetings that Trump has had with Putin in the last two years, and the lengths to which Trump has gone to obstruct Robert Mueller's investigation," Hess continued. "Barr's written statement was carefully crafted to give a nod to Mueller without actually defending him. Democrats should demand that Barr affirm publicly under oath that he will defend and publicly release the Mueller report and, more importantly, that the President is not above the law. Republicans on the committee have the chance to join them or prove once again that they are more loyal to their Party's fragile racist leader than they are to our democracy."
