MILWAUKEE, WI.

After last night's presidential debate, Voces de la Frontera Action issued the following statement:

"Trump lied, blustered and interrupted," said Jose Estrada a veteran and member of Voces de la Frontera Action. "He continued to demonstrate his racism and scorn for hard working immigrant families. I came from Mexico and I have lived in Wisconsin 40 years. I served in the National Guard and I retired after working in a factory for decades. Trump thinks my family and I never should have been here. That's why I am canvassing in my neighborhood and asking everyone in my extended family to vote for Hillary Clinton. We have come too far as a community to let someone like Trump come to power. His whole campaign is based on lies, bullying and making it impossible for families like mine to achieve the American Dream."

"In the debate, one of Trump's most outrageous assertions was that he has been healing racial tensions in the United States," said Christine Neumann-Ortiz, Executive Director of Voces de la Frontera Action. "This is a man who has repeatedly courted and given a platform to the Ku Klux Klan. And not only is he a danger for people of color, he is also a threat to the interests of white working people. Despite his posturing and shouting about unfair trade deals, in the same breath he talked about deregulating predatory corporations and cutting taxes for billionaires. This is what NAFTA did, and it led to historic job loss and income inequality. Last night he defended his illegal practice of not paying his workers by insulting them, and he defended his refusal to be transparent about his taxes. He defended his profiteering during the foreclosure crisis as good business. We can expect the same sort of treatment for working people of all backgrounds if he wins."

"In contrast to Trump, the debate reinforced our commitment as Latinx voters to work to elect Hillary Clinton. She will defend and expand deferred action protections for immigrant parents and young people and work for just immigration reform - and she should have talked about those things more. But she did talk about bringing the federal government's power to bear to end mass incarceration and making the wealthy pay their fair share of taxes, including Trump."

"In Wisconsin, Voces de la Frontera Action members are talking to tens of thousands of voters to defeat Trump and the violent white supremacist forces he represents. We will elect Clinton, who represents a vision inclusive of our families and will be someone open to the hopes, demands and pressure of our movement."

Voces de la Frontera is Wisconsin's leading immigrant rights group - a grassroots organization that believes power comes from below and that people can overcome injustice to build a better world.
