Fridays for Future to Hold International Strikes on Thursday (3rd March) Calling for an End to the War in Ukraine

Fridays For Future will host a series of international strikes in the next weeks starting with a mobilization on Thursday, March 3rd (strikes in over 40 cities already registered). Ukrainian activists have called on young people to take to the streets, as the situation in their country reaches a critical state, with civilians being killed and Vladimir Putin threatening the use of nuclear weapons.

A working list of locations of strikes is here.

Students, school children, and people of all ages will take to  the streets of cities, towns and villages all over the world, pausing daily routines to highlight the need for urgent, decisive action against Putin's brutality and unequal warfare that should never happen. Last Thursday shook our present. Hence, this Thursday, 3rd of March, we’re striking from school, university and work, so that tomorrow could be the Friday for the Future.

Military invasion is an evident violation of human rights, especially in the face of crises such as climate and the pandemic. We are uniting to highlight the need for urgent and clear action in support of Ukraine. Fossil fuel capitalism is one of the roots of this war, financing Putin's invasion, and many other conflicts and crises around the world. That is why, during the next few weeks, we also want to call out the era of fossil fuel, capitalism and imperialism that allows these systemic oppressions.

We are at a critical moment. Political leaders can take the side of people or of money, greed and the fossil fuel industry. We call on global leaders to stop financing Putin's whims, and end the import of oil, coal and gas from Russia. We also call for the end of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline - once and for all. It is a high time for Ukraine to join the European Union and respond to the needs of Ukrainians. The whole world must stand up against the war. Free Ukraine! Слава Україні! [Slava Ukraini]

Fridays for Future (FFF) is a global climate strike movement that started in August 2018, when 15-year-old Greta Thunberg began a school strike for climate.
