Essential Food and Farm Workers Urgently Need Federal Protection During COVID-19 Pandemic

Farmworker Justice, the Environmental Working Group to Host Virtual Press Conference Featuring Rep. Ro Khanna (D-Calif.)

Tomorrow, Congressman Ro Khanna (D-Calif.), Farmworker Justice and the Environmental Working Group will discuss the urgent need for federal protections of essential farm and food workers during the COVID-19 pandemic on a video conference call for members of the media.

Essential workers - such as those in meat processing facilities, on farms and in grocery stores - are working hard to keep the rest of us fed during the global coronavirus pandemic; reports indicate that they are contracting COVID-19 at higher rates than the general public. Yet these workers, who do not have the option of working remotely, are not guaranteed hazard pay, sick leave or access to personal protective equipment.

The Essential Workers Bill of Rights released by Rep. Khanna and Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) details what is needed protect our essential food and farm workers.

Please join us on a video conference call to discuss this vital issue.

Congressman Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) and food and farm worker advocacy groups will discuss the urgent need for stimulus legislation that protects essential workers.
