Sunrise Movement Responds to Pelosi Infrastructure Decision: She Must Pass $10T Budget Resolution Immediately

WASHINGTON

In response to news today that Speaker Pelosi said the House will not vote on a bipartisan infrastructure bill until the Senate passes reconciliation, Lauren Maunus, Advocacy Director for Sunrise Movement, released the following statement:

"One week after Sunrise Movement's Generation on Fire marched 266 miles from Paradise, CA to Nancy Pelosi's mansion demanding a robust infrastructure package, Nancy Pelosi budged. Thanks to movements and the Congressional Progressive Caucus, which has been demanding this and threatening to block the bipartisan bill, Speaker Pelosi is finally taking the right approach, and using House Democrats' leverage and power. The "Pelosi Plan" is right: the House must not vote on a bipartisan infrastructure bill until reconciliation has passed the Senate first. The top priority must be to pass the boldest budget resolution as soon as possible, go through reconciliation in July, and pass a robust infrastructure package by August recess.

"Looking past the bureaucratic political noise, we recognize that Nancy Pelosi's decision today is the bare minimum of what she and others should be doing to pass the jobs and climate package we need. The fact of the matter is that not a single proposed package meets the scale, scope and speed of the crises we face. We cannot afford any further delay, compromises or excuses: Speaker Pelosi must put forward and fight for a $10 trillion budget resolution to pass the House immediately."

This decision and Biden and the Group of 20's announcements come as Sunrise Movement plans to hold a large, escalated action in Washington DC on June 28th and will continue the fight to pass a bold, comprehensive infrastructure package including a fully-funded Civilian Climate Corps throughout the summer.

Sunrise Movement is a movement to stop climate change and create millions of good jobs in the process.
